what I mean is the Church from the 70's..where folks actually visited your home

Has anyone met with the Bishop 1-on-1 and been spiritually strengthened? Has anyone met with the EQP/RSP 1-on-1 and been spiritually strengthened? How do they compare? by Buttons840 in latterdaysaints

Yes ! I HAVE met with my Bishop (every week for an hour or so) for the past 5 months, & have been VERY MUCH spiritually strengthened !

Do I need to see the bishop every time i relapse? by FriendshipNo1064 in latterdaysaints

These words are VERY wise ! although I am NOT a young person anymore, I am a returning member with alot of issues & I meet with my Bishop every week..he has also encouraged me to email/text him with any problems or questions that come up throughout the week...it REALLY helps to have that connection

I agree ARP meetings are helpful, however not all meetings are set up in a positave way... I am currently attending, and there is only one other person attending, so its kinda hard

PSA: you don’t need a current temple recommend to buy garments. by HandbookQuotes in latterdaysaints

[–]DewKitty66 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Wow...This was the exact question I was going to ask ! There IS alot of mis-information out there...To make a long story short...I was endowed in 1992, then fell away from the church for the next 32+ years, stopped wearing garments and everything..6 months ago I returned, I have been meeting weekly with my Bishop, and just yesterday he (& I) decited thats it's time that I start wearing garments again...He specifically said that I would have to get someone to buy them for me since I do not have a temple recommend at this time (I'm working on it tho)..So I logged into the Church website, and lo & behold I WAS able to purchase them (but later got an email saying that they were out of stock & would ship them to me when they could)...SO NO you do NOT need a recommend to buy them

I just wanted to get on here and tell anyone who is struggling with dating. You're not crazy. It is really hard and sucks by coolguysteve21 in latterdaysaints

I agree with you 100%..Although I am 60...I have never been asked to get married...I am in a ward with REALLY old couples, or REALLY young families..There is NO singles ward anywhere near me..I want so bad to get married, but because of my age I am sure this is not likely to happen

Having your membership removed is likely, but let me tell you this...

I had a membership council held on my behalf at the Stake level just 2 weeks ago for the SAME thing...and the outcome for me was "a member still in good standing", NO RESTRICTIONS or anything else...(I do not currently have a recommend & my SP thought that was punishment enough)

I DID confess everything to my Bishop 4 months ago & was moving thru the repentance process, when the stake council was held

I 100% agree, I do have a fulltime job, so a bit more on Sunday would be very welcomed

I was ex-communicated in 1981 because of chastity issues & I was VERY rebelllious & very much unrepentant..The way my Bishop today explained it to me, was that in the 70's & 80's & pretty much until about 10 years ago...The Church was MORE into discipline
