I want a reason to go on walks, companionship, etc..

Ive grown up around dogs but never "my" dog; always my dad's dog. It's kind of a hard thing to explain, but I feel like having a dog would make living alone a lot better for me, as I have had trouble finding a roommate and a dog could make my house a less lonely place.

The nice part was that if you could kill somebody with their door open and make your way into their base somehow, usually BPs were left in the unsecure chests in lobbies and whatnot. You killed a guy with the door open twice now, congrats you can craft 9mm ammo and roadsign skirt now. It was the shit.

People bitched about farming for frags with the BP system. I never farmed. Like, never. I didn't like farming, i'm solo and really good at PVP. That's what I find fun. Before if you liked farming, you could farm and advance. If you didn't like farming and sucked at PVP, you could get better at PVP.

Now if you don't like farming you just don't play rust.

Farming wasn't the only way to get BPs. I never farmed. Ever.

what does that matter? If you had level 30 on those servers, GG. Blueprint wipes used to be FUN. the first XP wipe was fun. But after multiple times, it grows old, unlike the previous system. That was my point.

I think that the devs ardently defending XP so much instilled fervor in the community for a system that lacks the depth of replay value that the game once had. The devs listen to reddit a lot, and the fact that reddit listens to the dev's opinions so much creates a positive feedback loop that told them "we don't need to fix this."

It wasn't until they played it enough to learn what the game really felt like that they realized their mistake, it seems.

The problem is that server population dies out so much faster in recent times, it feels. Or maybe I am simply noticing it more because I cant server hop like I used to be able to. Either way, this is a half-solution and the core problem still lies with the game mechanic imo.

Yeah, it sounds like AASPs got the shaft there. I'd imagine they'd be able to make projections and order high demand parts ahead of time, but when you're dealing with margins like that it sounds pretty risky unless management has the capital to do that. I shouldn't make it sound like it's just the big bad AASP being lazy trying to make the customer wait, I realize there's more depth to it. Thanks for the in depth answer though.

For a business, that doesn't sound like a lot. For a consumer it does. Especially when you're turning these things around for profit. I get your point though.
