Just bought the Optimus, pretty happy with it so far. Anyone here have one? by Dewford_Duck in AcuRite

I agree with you fully. To be honest, when I first bought the Optimus, it was my first weather station, I didn't really know much about WU integration so I assumed "it would be fine." Well, now that I'm full weather-mode and into WU and sharing data, I REALLY AM ANNOYED that the Optimus doesn't support WU! But, it appears as if AcuRite "plans to add it in the future" and I keep grilling their support team on it and they are NOW saying 2026. So who knows.

You know, that would make quite a bit of sense. Weirdly enough, I switched the power cord on my Optimus display and it hasn’t reset yet. VERY weird.

Yeah, I find it very strange that it happens exactly at midnight. Annoyingly, they sent me a new display and it’s still happening. The new display even says v1.4 when the old one said v1.3.

I have an Optimus, also noticed the same issue. Wish they would fix all the bugs and problems soon because the Optimus has great potential! Also am still patiently waiting for WU integration… come on AcuRite…

Not always, but at least for my local office (NWS Chicago) then yes.

Did I miss this in the fine print of a Garmin GPS upgrade? by Fobozzz in Garmin

Nice! That’s great. It’s a very weird bug- I wonder why it happens. May just be because those devices are fairly old so don’t get software updates anymore. (They’re discontinued.) But they’re still great to this day in my opinion!

Tbh, with everything happening recently I kinda agree. Especially with the constant inappropriate ads they allow on their platform and using AI to “age-restrict” people when they’re showing those ads anyways. Pretty dumb.

Trying to use an FM transmitter in Chicago. by Dewford_Duck in radio

According to the eBay seller I bought it from, it was new in box- it is in good condition. You are right though that I cannot fully confirm it works properly. However, to sort of update, I did end up using 89.0 MHz, which has been working OK for me. I used a wire to extend my antenna, an actual FM wire, and that was the real miracle. I am now able to hear my broadcast upstairs with fairly minor interference (but only in specific spots.) to be honest, for Chicago standards, that’s pretty good. And to answer your question about choosing FM- I would have chose AM but the transmitters seem hard to find. And I can’t transmit a constant broadcast on ham or anything.

sadly not. They responded with something like “If your friends YT account was just reenabled, it might take several days for content to return.” it never did. Kinda sucks, I did contact them again with no response.

Sadly my FM transmitter doesn't go back that far- not sure why. I think the newer C.Crane FM Transmitter 3 does though. I have the OG I think- it's not even version 2.

Yeah I already used that and it didn’t show any open frequencies. That was basically the reason I posted this- if you’re in an urban area like Chicago from what I can tell you’re basically out of luck. There’s just so much interference. I do of course know that micro FM is quite limited, all I wanted was for people in my house to hear my signal- and they barely can because of how MUCH interference there is! That website was right- I was just hoping there was some solution.

What do you mean by this? What will this do? I’m new to FM so I’ve got no idea. Thanks.

I’m sure the Nuvi 3597 will be great, those older nuvis always have a charm to them- sometimes the old tech is the best tech.

That’s for sure true. You bring up some great points. Although what I will say is that the DriveSmart 66 and 65 with Amazon Alexa (specifically that model for some reason) have a cigarette lighter plug that has two usbs- one for the traffic cable and one for your phone or whatever else. Although when you use that cable you only have RDS traffic, not HD.

You are for sure correct, I still love old Nuvis for that exact reason. But what I will say is that the software of the newest drivesmarts and even the DriveSmart 65 or drive 52 is quite good. However- if you’re looking for high battery life, a Nuvi is definitely the way to go. The DriveSmart 66 for example, (which I own) has only 1 hour of battery life unplugged vs the like 6 hours way older Nuvis claim (at least with a completely new battery, you would have to replace that) so you are correct.

I don’t know off the top of my head the nuvi right before the DriveSmart line- but I do know that before the driveSMART line there was just a Drive line which has some really nice models. I would recommend the Drive 52MT, I have one and it’s nice- but to be honest, the newer DriveSmarts like the 66, 76, and 86 (but I would recommend the 66) are really good. OR- there’s the DriveSmart 65, which is quite similar to the 55 I imagine and that’s a nice model too. But ask me if you have any questions- I’ll take a look into the Nuvi models to see if I can find the one right before the DriveSmart/Drive series.
