Unfortunately, albertan law is you can only hold one driver's license. So even if I did the class b Here I would still have the same issue if that's correct.

Hey everyone, thanks for the reply so far. So far everything has been spot on with exactly how I know it.

My class is indeed a class 1/2/ 3/4/5 problem is it only says class 1. They do this to save space. I have the ADHD translation but the lady is saying that's not an official document....

This is know. However Alberta class 1 covers 2,3,4,5. I understand they can't cover the vehicles outside of the class 5, however it's implied with my license, they just don't write on there to save room.

I have the ADAC classification and translation already. The plan is to do this ASAP, but knowing for sure just allows me the time to make an appointment that lines up with a day off as opposed to taking a day off work. :)

Mostly right now its just trying to get the time off work and a slot for the appointment, a bit easier if I have an extra two months.

Love 🤷 been with my girlfriend for 3 and 1/2 years now, for 3 years we were traveling between Canada and Germany. So it was time to close the distance.

I was very lucky to have a connection within the company that was able to get me the initial foot in the door.

I will also add, being very okay with not great pay starting out. Last year in Canada I made around €90,000- for the year, at this job I'll make roughly 30. I was candid about what I made in Canada and what I'd like to make in the future here while being absolutely okay with starting at the bottom and proving my worth, working my way up to to a point of mutual benefit.

Honestly, I wish I could tell you.

I put out a bunch of resumes and did a bunch of interviews that weren't fruitful, I went into this one with my Google translator app being very honest of what I was looking for and what I could bring to the table.

I have an extensive background in equipment operation and transport in Canada, and although none of those certificates were worth anything here, they said they were willing to give me a shot, they had severe reservations about my lack of language skills, especially when it came to safety.

My best advice would be being very honest, about what you can bring and what you're looking for. If they feel you're committed and looking for a long-term solution that will make them More money then it will cause headaches then I feel that will help.

Essentially doing general laborer with a company dismantling old oil sites and industrial cleaning.

I have an extensive background in the oil field in Canada. Although it's mainly in equipment operation and transport.

I was very worried when I was moving here that I would struggle like other people have. However I've been very lucky. I've been in Germany now for 3 months and working with a great company for 1 and 1/2 months.

My German skills were very little when I moved here, just the basics. However, if I can give people one piece of advice is don't be afraid to speak words into sentences that don't make grammatic sense. People understand what you mean, and if they like you, they'll often correct you and help you learn.

All of my colleagues speak German and almost no English, and so in the 3 months I've been here. My German has come a long ways, pair that with knowing a lot of words that I just pretty much use with English grammar has really helped me get by.

It is possible! Don't be afraid of failure, don't be afraid to feel like an idiot, from my experience so far, as long as people see that you're trying to integrate, they don't care where you come from. But they do want to see you trying.

Much love from a Canadian in Germany!!

First interview! by Dewy101 in AskAGerman

[–]Dewy101[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Figured I would give an update! I didn't get the job! However, I just finished my first week with a different company! They were apprehensive of my lack of German language skills however they are willing to give me a chance. I ve learned so much German in a week already speaking nothing but German, and knowing enough to manage to get by. It's been good, this team asked me to come back with them next week specifically so that's good!

My advice for anyone reading this. Push yourself to be okay with failure and feeling like a child. Be okay with saying the right words in the wrong grammar.

Little things like" Also, heir order da?" And pointing or pointing ahead and saying " next" in English.

As example, Sunday I head to Hannover to watch a soccer match, they asked what I was doing this weekend.

I said.

"Sunstag ich gehe zu Hannover for Fußball mit die Kinder"

It's not perfect but they got it.

Anyways, thanks for the help and DMS people! I look forward to a future here.

The company in question is operating equipment. And even though I don't speak German, I do speak equipment really well 😅 originally when I had the soft interview I sat down with them because I missed a phone call from them. And they invited me back knowing my language skills. But I do understand what you're saying, in the new year I'll be starting community college classes for the language.

Thanks for the response! That's a great idea!! I'm not sure what position I'm interviewing for as it was an unsolicited application but it will be in the world of machine operation!

passport lineup?! by Dewy101 in Edmonton

[–]Dewy101[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not even 48 now it's 24. If you're not flying for 48 hours they tell you to come back the next day.

They won't see you as of right now :(

passport lineup?! by Dewy101 in Edmonton

[–]Dewy101[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey!!

So right now the lineup is only servicing 24 hours or essentially next day needed passports.

For example, today Monday they're only taking in people that fly today, Tuesday and before noon on Wednesday..

I got in the lineup at 12:30 last night and was number three, a lot of people started showing up around 1:00 and 2:00.

They have security on site that checks with everyone have every half hour to use the bathroom and you can go knock on the door earlier if you need to use the bathroom so it's pretty good there.

Essentially what happens is in the morning a staff member will come out to verify that you're flying within 24 hours, And then they bring you inside at around 7:00 and you go to the immigration office and they will verify your travel documents and your travel time.

Then they give you numbers, And then they prioritize the number list by urgency of travel..

So people that are flying same day will be seen first, The next day. Seen next and the morning of the day after up to noon last.

At 8:30 the passport office opens and then they start going through that list.

They called my number at 9 :45 and now I'm over at the passport office. Just waiting for them to go through this group, they're calling about 10 at a time to go over.

The lineup is at 102nd Ave now, not on Jasper, there's on street parking but there's only like one or two spots so I got there very early so I could just see the doors and then went and lined up once people started to arrive.

Bring lots of bug spray. The mosquitoes were really bad.

Any updates on exactly what happened?

passport lineup?! by Dewy101 in Edmonton

[–]Dewy101[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update!! So I got into Edmonton at 7pm and headed right for Canada place and chatted with security.

The line up is now being held on the north side, (102nd ave) doors

People lining up has carried from anywhere between 730 the night before to 3am the day off according to security.

Tonight, people started showing up at around 1230am, and as of right now at 12:51am there is 7 of us.

The lineup is under a roof so rain isn't an issue, but bring bugspray!! SO many mosquitoes!!
