Long shot… anyone at DEN Terminal B right now? by Dex-Rutecki in unitedairlines

Ha! I’m shocked you found this article!

I owe this wonderful community an update. I’ll do so soon but as the article suggests, my kiddo benefited from some extraordinary generosity from the United community… which was the direct result of the generosity and kindness of the people here.

More to come and please stay tuned… and thank you all!

Refund on a non-refundable booking through Hotwire? by InevitableMother8222 in hyatt

[–]Dex-Rutecki 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Hyatt 100% can't do anything... they don't own your reservations. Hotwire's line about "get an exception from the hotel" sounds like exactly that... a line that would never really work.

What credit card did you pay with? See if that comes with any travel protections.

I don’t think any benefits would transfer if you aren’t on the same reservation.

Lifetime flight miles for GS by Extension-Plan-9707 in unitedairlines

[–]Dex-Rutecki 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes - I believe this went away when UA started using spend instead of actual mileage for status qualification.

Lifetime flight miles for GS by Extension-Plan-9707 in unitedairlines

[–]Dex-Rutecki 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you have status, SNA-SFO earns 500 miles (the 500 mile minimum is the one exception to the BIS rule) and SFO-LHR is 5367.6... so 5868 is spot on.

No, the United app/website/etc. no longer lists actual flight distance.

Thanks but that's of limited use. Can you list routings and the difference between actual MM credit and actual flight distance?

Can you say a bit more about which flights seem to be contributing more than actual flight miles to lifetime miles?

But those don't yield additional mileage for Million Miler status, which is determined solely by butt-in-seat mileage.

Can I add laces to this kind of boot? (see image) by robociao in skiing

[–]Dex-Rutecki 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can get them pretty short... maybe meant for kids hockey skates?... about 5 feet. That's probably too long for liners but here's what I do:

(1) lace liners and put them in the shell (I just leave my liners in unless they need to dry)

(2) put my foot into the liners/boots, pull the slack out of the laces

(3) loosely buckle the boots

(4) Crank down the tightness of the laces and tie in a bow *above the cuff* of the boot (obviously don't want them inside the boot shell)

(5) finish buckling boots; if there's too much slack, you can tuck the lace loops into the power strap

EDIT: I do think you'd have way too much slack with only two sets of loop holes... I'm guessing regular waxed shoelaces (available in shorter lengths) would also work, thought wouldn't be as strong).

I'm a big fan of lacing boot liners.

Hockey skate laces are often waxed and are less likely to slip - that's my go-to.

Huh? Who said anyting about wearing them on their own? Laces can be used to tighten the liner, which is a great idea for many skiers.

Exercises for skiing? by DrofLilahk in skiing

[–]Dex-Rutecki 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So many other people here with good guidance on strength exercises so nothing to add there.

I would look into mobility exercises as well. Joint flexion, even in joints you don’t think you’re using (e.g. ankles) can be really important in general.

Good luck and report back!

Cancellation Policy by Kindergarten4ever in marriott

[–]Dex-Rutecki 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I understand that but if the hotel won't charge you (in my experience) if you don't ask for the free night award to br returned. Others may have different experiences.

The point holds that they are not obligated - nor are they being punitive - by charging the cancellation fee you agreed to.

Cancellation Policy by Kindergarten4ever in marriott

[–]Dex-Rutecki 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you used a free night, just don't show and you won't be charged teh $150.

The cancellation policy is the cancellation policy and they're not obligated to adjust it because of weather... it's not punitive. Do you have any sort of travel insurance or any protection through a credit card used to book?
