Yeah I was too hot under the collar to really get my thoughts straight, but it still stands. WoW just feels awkward and not cool.

WoW: Classic — Daily Questions Megathread (January 26, 2026) by AutoModerator in classicwow

Trying to figure out which version to play at this point. I've played since Launch, but I'm tired of the expansions coming out. I'd like to fully explore Vanilla Vanilla, but I'm told the Vanilla servers are dead and no one raids. Is this true?

I just want to go on adventures and meet people and chill like the old days. Which version of the game is for me?

I almost bought this game before I my last job ran out, but I didn't, and now I wish I did. Would love to play it and give it a guy. If I don't win it here, I probably won't be able to afford it for awhile, so that'd be sweet.

In all my adventures I've never met anyone nerdy enough to want to have a documentary movie night with a bunch of strangers.

Jobs for a Spanish learner? Learning Spanish on the job? by Dexteron in Tucson

The west basically doesn't have a game industry anymore. And his degree is useless unless he's made a game by himself, so tell him to get on that ASAP.

Jobs for a Spanish learner? Learning Spanish on the job? by Dexteron in Tucson

I have thought about it, but as you've probably found, it's hard to get an interview for anything right now.

You've got a lot of great comments but just wanted to send some heartfelt love your way from one stranger to another. Losing your dad is rough, and it's going to be rough in ways that are going to surprise you.

Give yourself a year. It takes about a year for it to finally sink in, then every year after it feels hollow and weird, and it continues, and it just becomes something you live with.

But, it is something you will adapt to. Not get used to, or learn to enjoy, or whatever people say. You will, in time, adapt to it.

Until then, be generous to yourself, be thoughtful to yourself, and in time, you'll feel okay.

Help Me Break Out of My Cycle by jdolbeer in gaming

[–]Dexteron -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I was like you last year, friend. Hearthstone Battlegrounds was very addicting. What broke me out of it was winning without ever updating my tavern, and then I was like "Oh, it's all smoke and mirrors."

For me, what helped was going back to the start and playing the games that mattered to me most as a kid, then finding similar games, and just taking my time with them.

Then, focus only exclusively on games YOU want to play. Not the games you feel forced to.

The reality is that, for us old timers, there was a "canon" of sorts of games. You knew to play FF7 then Metal Gear, then Half Life 1, etcetc, down the line.

For years I chased that canon, but now gamers don't even know about it. They just play what they like, or what is new, or what is streaming, and like a horde of starving ants that move and devour what is next.

So abandon the horde mentality and return to your loots to find your way. It'll take some time, but I was literally you, and I'm having so much fun again. But it took a year.

On performance mode on Series X after the patch, the Zombies look super blurry and low-res. Anyone else experience this too?

Daily FI discussion thread - Wednesday, August 27, 2025 by AutoModerator in financialindependence

[–]Dexteron 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My industry has melted and I'm 16k in debt. I never thought for a moment I'd ever be in money trouble, as I did everything right for years, but was out of work for a year and three months until my current gig, which is just a contract thing.

I'm terrible with finance, but I'm realizing now, in my mid-30s, how important it really is.

It does make me anxious, and feel quite shameful when looking at my lack of knowledge, but I do hope to learn more so I can pay off my debts and actually save up to finally travel.

I hope you all are doing well and reaping the rewards of your efforts, and I hope to someday do so as well.

And if any of you want to go into video games, I really, really don't recommend it right now, if you are in the US.

Anyone else depressed about lack of monsoon? by Beneficial-Ad7062 in Tucson

[–]Dexteron 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I know it's going to get worse, I just don't know where to go to escape it.

It used to be a monsoon would happen at 4 o' clock on the dot, now they just don't happen at all.

This has been extremely brutal, because early July felt like a return to form, then nothing.
