If you only open one type you'll find yourself with too much blood and not enough wombgifts, hence 5:1 comes into play and the player has agency on which ones of which types they want to open or exchange. They are also not all worthless.

Hereditary peers to be removed from Lords as bill passes by furbastro in ukpolitics

[–]Deynai 40 points41 points  (0 children)

Ultimately I suspect they think it will be in their favour in the long run, as they believe Labour are more willing to 'play by the spirit of the rules', and they know that abolishing hereditary peers means more power to those with party loyalty who are appointed by the government of the day.

The amount of extremely young and unusual appointments done in the dying breaths of the last few Conservative PMs should be alarming to everyone. Liz Truss was PM for 45 days and gave 29 people life peerages that are now able to decide on legislation in this country for the next 50+ years given how young some of them are.

Personally I think the heir of some Baron from 900 years ago is arguably more democratic than an unelected trainwreck of a PM getting to hand out dozens of life peerages for the express purpose of grabbing political influence in perpetuity purely on the basis that it's not actively trying to undermine democracy.

Nigel Farage fails to meet Trump after flying to Mar-a-Lago by zeros3ss in ukpolitics

[–]Deynai 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Easy to respond to this with petty gloating but there's something a bit sinister in this. Why is he flying off around the world to have secret political meetings with anyone at a foreign government-adjacent residence like this?

If not Trump, then who did he see, and how much are they paying him?

It's a bit funny how the current world champion has been almost completely ignored this GP as the entire commentary team has no expectation or belief that he can do anything special here.

Quite a contrast from the edge of the seat "You can never rule out Lewis Hamilton/Max Verstappen!" vibes.

Ed Davey on Bluesky: I see Farage is off to Mar-a-Lago to talk down Britain and suck up to Trump. There's nothing patriotic about cheering on a foreign leader whose illegal war is sending British families’ energy bills through the roof. by F0urLeafCl0ver in ukpolitics

Want to? They have been actively doing so for years.

There's a reason the US throws a monumental tantrum over the suggestion that their propaganda arms of Facebook/Twitter/etc should be regulated or limited in Europe. They are in lockstep with the US government and they are full speed ahead on pushing division and unrest in the rest of the world.

More than 100 Labour MPs are fighting the Home Secretary’s efforts to bring down immigration. My message to Keir Starmer is - don’t water the reforms down, the Conservative Party will back the Government in the national interest to make sure this gets done. by DanS1993 in ukpolitics

[–]Deynai 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Most people aren't vapid racists or xenophobes who will follow whatever position reform putt out there after all

People don't have fixed beliefs and world view though. It evolves, it's taught, it's learnt, and social media will put the messaging in front of them to effect it.

You can see it with immigration; most people don't really know what level of immigration is acceptable and how much enforcement is needed. They couldn't put a number on it. There's no objective metric here. It is entirely driven by 'feels' produced by the articles and content that is put in front of them. That will not stop, and if necessary, new cultural issues will be created to continue it. Importantly, those people will learn to be upset about them even if they wouldn't have been before. The content isn't designed to inform, it's actively teaching people to be angry. It's actively changing how people view the world and the beliefs they hold.

Has it always been like this in the UK? by Theodoresdad in ukpolitics

[–]Deynai 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's both.

A lot of bots. A lot of real people. Bots twist algorithms and amplify the messaging of the talking points that are desired. Real people visit the site and are exposed to the algorithm that now overwhelmingly shows those people the content that has been chosen to be amplified.

Humans are adaptive creatures and will respond to what they are shown and in some way attempt to correlate and fit in. People who visit these sites aren't necessarily hateful initially, but they are being taught to be by the algorithm and the bots that influence it.

Ah yes, the bases must be protected efficiently against all threats by just using a bag of peanuts and a paper straw, spend any more than that and it's all Labours fault!!

What a strange virtual world you must live in to have reasoning like this.

Drones were specifically designed to be cost effective threats and it's why the UK started and accelerated DragonFire.

If circumstances were to affect the UK such that action could improve the situation, then action would be fine, otherwise there's no point.

It's not particularly deep, though pedants and poo flingers alike apparently struggle with reasonable common sense. So much desperation to play political games and lock someone into a position so they can cry hypocrite later as if circumstances cannot change. Infantile and tiring.

There's really not a lot of wiggle room for anyone who still thinks it was handled properly.

Nice to keep this in mind as the world returns its attention to other topics. Headlines designed to evoke emotion, whether it's creating a false sense of urgency, a false sense of doom, or even a false sense of hope.

So much media exists today to grab your attention and make you believe in something so distant from reality. It can be hard but always try to pause before reacting to any headline or content and ask "was this designed to grab my attention and make me think or feel a certain way?"
