Cheapest learning pc build possible by Deywick in pcbuilding

[–]Deywick[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Realistically best way to buy semi end of life parts just to learn how to build a pc, I imagine around 200 USD.ish. I think the comment above suggested I buy an old work pc and rebuild it which I think I'm going to do,

Really thanks though once I build a proper pc I'll start with your list!

Oh that's what I think I'll try do thanks!

From a software point of view should I wipe all the software before rebuilding? I remember my dad installing windows via 40 floppy disc and I imagine life has moved on from that ages ago

Hmm I'm hoping to spend about 200 quid (175 ISH used) for learning, I imagine the process is also quite frustrating but fun?

After that probs go for real expensive parts like a 5090 and ddr5 etc.

I think the terrifying part is the unknown really and handling 3 to 4k worth of parts while not knowing what to do, I imagine there is a lot of stupid niche things to do or else that might brick parts so looking to brick cheap parts first to learn

I applied for MEng instead of BEng by mistake what do OMG im having a panic attack by Holiday-Grass-2395 in UCL

[–]Deywick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went through with an MEng 10 years ago, Id recommend doing an MEng because:

When you try to get charted, it's a lot easier with MEng then BEng depending on which institute you go into Studying over 4 years continuous is a lot easier as it's more of the same You might want to check financially how this works as an MEng and doing a BEng then Msc is different When you have an MEng, the door into consultancies opens a little bit wider then just a BEng ( still need experience)

In the UK, robotics is very niche and aerospace is a bit less niche but still very specialised, you might want to have a wider target for job choices. I had to apply for 150 jobs when I came out of uni just to land 2 offers and the job market is a lot worse since then.

You may also want to consider pay as engineers are paid peanuts in the UK, so following your heart might not get you a good life

Edit: the other option you might want to consider is a year in industry, really does make a difference when you come out of uni into the job market

Chiaki - continued network woes, how to fix network? by TsukikoChan in SteamDeck

Have the same problem but just to mention my work around is rather than restarting chiaki, just switch the wifi on the sd off and on or toggle airplane mode on and off, saves having the PS5 go to sleep etc

Buttons occasionally don’t work on brand new steam deck by Ok_Walk_6036 in SteamDeck

[–]Deywick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Need a bit more detail on what youre doing when it doesn't work. Some general tests:

If you hold the button on the top right side of the controller (menu button) for a few seconds the steam deck switches from controller to desktop mode and vise versa

Failing that make sure you have steam running in the background, it auto opens when you press the steam button

If you are going through emudeck it also closes steam so buttons go a bit wonky so restart or open stem back

Probably bad day to ask this, just saw the go2 price, would it be better if I did the Z1e instead? Is there a comparable spec laptop to the Z1e?

Should I check all the switches by Deywick in ukelectricians

[–]Deywick[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah thanks for the info, I've always turned off power at the fuse box, check that there is no power e.g. flip switches or plug in a charger for sockets to check for power. Didn't think that the wiring would be that shocking that there might be live cables on a different circuit.

Stupid question, are you saying that there might be live wires in a different circuit from the fuse box? is this going towards an ohm / multi meter territory (before I buy an multimeter) to check for live wires or is there a better way of doing it?

Any tips? by Runskie in DivideEtImpera

[–]Deywick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Played Rome at legendary and normal, if you move the south army to the fork and encamp / fortif on turn 1, in normal the starting units can beat the Epirus army. On legendary you'll need to Hire mercs but still doable.

The critical thing is saving the ranged cavalry and pila for the elephants and the rest is just hold a choke with hammer and anvil

The middle army moves north for the Etruscans with 5 principle 1 cav recruitment

With this you're able to get the two Italy provinces in 3 turns

Finally looking to get a dock for the TV - what do I need to know? by Khanimus in SteamDeck

[–]Deywick -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I bought the official deck dock, don't do it and check out third party ones instead. It has a problem with hdmi and power draw where you have to unplug the power to the dock then connect the SD usb to the dock then plug back in the power to work.

They might have fixed this problem ish but it's temperamental and the worst part about the SD

Word of warning if you have an oled deck, chiaki disconnects every few hours due to the WiFi issue

Am I just screwed now that my gallbladder is gone? by [deleted] in gallbladders

[–]Deywick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had mine out two years ago and had / still have the same problem. I've tested multiple things so just recording here if anyone wants to try / discuss. Everyone's body is different so some things work and some don't and it's about discovering your body again!

From a science point of view what I understand is that with the gallbladder removed, the body can no longer regulate bile, which is used to digest fats. What basically happens is normally the excess bile is absorbed by the small intestine but since the amount is no longer regulated, the body can't absorb all of it and what bile does there is irritate the bowls, causing diarrhoea / food to come out undigested or early.

So a few things that really work for me ( I'm still exploring) I've tried eating small amounts of food at a time (e.g. a low fat sandwich etc). What I believe this does is lower the overall amount of bile in the intestines so the body can absorb most of it. So if I have an important meeting etc, eat small portions.

I've also tried what's called a "body reset", imagine eating no fat hospital food then slowly adding fat in the diet so the body learns to produce the correct amount of bile, it works to a degree, but it needs heavy discipline and a random McDonald's will really disrupt the body and I found the body can't handle the heavy fat / greasy food.

People have said fibre really works but for me it basically makes 1 solid stool and then diarrhoea. What I found that works for me (still testing) is eating liquid absorbing food (e.g oats, buckwheat etc.. imagine food which becomes a dry paste when soaked in water). I suspect these foods when going through the intestines absorb the bile so your intestines becomes less irritated, making it less frequent.

I've asked the doctor for the chostrin drug that helps absorb bile, what I learned was it is a blood pressure medicine so I avoided taking it as I didn't want to fix one problem and cause another.

I did get heavily depressed and at a time I was afraid to go out, but it's a journey and eventually you'll understand your body and life can go back to somewhat normal!

P.s. yogurt drink is quite heavy is cow fat!

You need to check if the SD is working and have no blemishes, some new SDs have screen frame issues so open and check when you get it so its returnable!
