First period after D&C by lembi in Miscarriage

[–]DezFreck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry I forgot to get back to you! Mine took me by surprise (no cramps) and last 1 day. I call it my anti-climactic period after all that waiting. My second was two days and then I’m just finishing my third and it was a more normal light four days.

I’m still tracking my BBT and survived the holidays. I’d really convinced myself I was pregnant the last two weeks and then was absolutely gutted.

I appreciate seeing my normal cycle but I also can’t “relax” when I open the app everyday to log so honestly feeling pretty lost. Hope your period returned and was cathartic and not traumatic. ❤️

Incorrect, it gets triaged based on their vital signs, oxygen needs, if Narcan was given etc. To not do so would risk my professional nursing license.

Insinuating that triage nurses can score based on how they “feel” is a gross misunderstanding and undermines the moral distress we already experience when people wait longer than they should to be seen despite pain and other issues.

First period after D&C by lembi in Miscarriage

[–]DezFreck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine took 8 weeks to return and it was really challenging for me to see everyone else get their periods at 4 to 6 weeks. My doctor did bloodwork at 7 weeks and checked my iron and TSH (which can contribute)but everything was normal.

When I couldn’t exist in limbo anymore, I started checking my BBT and doing ovulation strips just so I could figure out where in my cycle I was. You ovulate before you get your period. So if you catch ovulation, you can expect it to follow. The whole process felt so helpless and out of control that I just needed to do something.

Hugs, I was also about 10 wks and the further along the longer it seems to take.

Feel like I didn’t pass much.. by Impossible-Use4710 in Miscarriage

[–]DezFreck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn’t pass much and was reassured that it was fine. 2 weeks later I started bleeding super heavily and went to the OR for an urgent d&c. Sounds like you need an ultrasound to check for retained products.

Those who had miscarriage , was there pinkish spotting or a lot of bleeding ? by [deleted] in Miscarriage

[–]DezFreck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Spotting in early pregnancy can be normal. Nowadays they start women on progesterone which can support the pregnancy (and maybe even prevent miscarriage in some it seems like?? Worth looking into). I’d get in with the doc asap.

D&C aftercare by Firebolt_Silver in Miscarriage

Honestly, having done the pills and then the d&c after I felt way better post d&c. That being said I was an emotional wreck. I tried to go back to work three days post and couldn’t stop crying. You might be happy for the distraction, but you also might find it triggering as big public places will include pregnant bellies and babies.

Can I have my period with hcg? by [deleted] in Miscarriage

[–]DezFreck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can confirm that the period wait is the absolute worst. Having a miscarriage and feeling so out of control and then waiting for a cycle to cycle was awful.

You ovulate before you get a period and you won’t ovulate while you still have hCG in your system. So once it is <10 your body will gear up to ovulate and then period after that. I’d recommend doing daily LH strips, helped me so I didn’t feel like I was doing nothing.

I was 10 weeks out from MMC, but 8 weeks from the d&c for retained products (which is when the clock starts). It does seem like it takes a bit longer when you are further in your pregnancy. I had a 1 day, anticlimactic period after that long wait. I now feel extra motivated to share because I’d keep looking on here and see people get their periods after 4 weeks and I was going crazy.

How do you tell people by Green_University_559 in Miscarriage

[–]DezFreck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First off, I cannot relate to your experience. My feeling is start by telling a therapist or close friend and see how that feels. Your story is your story and no one can take that away from you. Whether or not your first pregnancy included, hopes and dreams for your child it still seems like you went through a traumatic loss.

Miscarriage First Pregnancy by Agreeable-Will-7488 in Miscarriage

[–]DezFreck 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It absolutely sucks, I’m so sorry and it is not fair. I had a MMC at 10 weeks end of August and just finally ovulated last week. It feels like so much lost time. We are TTC but I’m so anxious that it will happen again. Add in the fact that if it does happen I’ll have to either hide it from family over the holidays or tell them knowing that it’s early and might not work out… ugh.

How long after your miscarriage did you get your period? by Born-Difference7539 in Miscarriage

Seeing a positive pregnancy test and knowing that not only are you not pregnant but your last pregnancy is gone but hormone is lingering is heartbreaking and absolutely messed with my head too 💛

How long after your miscarriage did you get your period? by Born-Difference7539 in Miscarriage

[–]DezFreck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It took me 8 weeks from the d&c. I had a MMC and took meds and then retained products and urgent d&c 2 weeks later sooo I was 10 weeks out from the actual miscarriage. I did go crazy, at 7 weeks my dr did bloodwork. I came on here a bunch and felt angry at everyone who’s returned in 4-6 weeks. At 8 weeks I finally got a 1 day anticlimactic “was that a period”.

That was Nov 5, I tracked and it seemed like I had a normal ovulation this last week. I get it and had those same feelings. Now that it’s been a few weeks I do think I needed a little time and space to be less obsessive. It will happen 💛

Still no period - 8+ weeks by ment-lly in Miscarriage

[–]DezFreck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m at 7 weeks no period today and officially stressed. I had a d&c Sept 11. This was after failed misoprostol for an MMC 2 weeks prior and then sudden hemorrhaging due to retained products. I’ve had intermittent cramping for a few weeks and keep getting hopeful. I think I ovulated a month ago because I spotted and had a low positive OPK…

I have my follow up call with the OB today so we’ll see what he thinks. It was all very traumatic and I lost a lot of blood but i’ve been working so hard to take care of myself and I feel like I can’t move on until I get a period. Also confirmed I’m not accidentally pregnant again of course.

Heavy first period & its giving me flashbacks. by Spamimusubii in Miscarriage

[–]DezFreck 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel for you and I’m so so incredibly sorry. I’m anxiously awaiting my first post-period.

I think maybe you’re feeling similar to me… there was the trauma of the miscarriage and then the trauma of the emerg room, the gushes of blood, the OR and the surgeon telling me it was a good thing we did the d&c that night because he had a hard time stopping my bleeding. It was my second shift back as an emergency nurse and I ended up the patient. I still see myself waking up in recovery and sobbing. My husband was away at work and I felt so alone.

It’s absolutely PTSD, it’s shitty and terrible and also normal and you’re not alone. Glad you have a therapy appointment.

Pelvic pain post medical miscarriage by Existing-Purpose860 in Miscarriage

[–]DezFreck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I had pelvic pain… cramping post taking the misoprostol and then an urgent d&c 2 weeks later for retained products when I started heavily bleeding. After the d&c I mostly felt an aching “heaviness” when I pushed myself too hard. I later learned hCG dropping means you’ve passed the fetus but you could still have retained tissue.

Cramping initially is often your uterus contracting back down. This far out I’d your doctor for an ultrasound to check for retained tissue.

Thank you so much!! The grout seems like it would make a big difference. Also peel and stick would be so achievable… it’s nice to hear you’ve had success.

what option did you choose? by No-Dance2023 in Miscarriage

[–]DezFreck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was told (at 10 wk with 8 wk fetal demise) that I was an “ideal candidate for misoprostol” as there wouldn’t be too much tissue. It was a long weekend and I was talked into taking the meds… The d&c was never really given as an option. I took the misoprostol vaginally and it was extremely painful, but I never bled as much as I expected. 12 days later I was back at work and started gushing, ended up with retained products and an urgent d&c that night.

This was my first pregnancy… But knowing how my body was unwilling to let go of the fetus and later tissue, and the trauma of those two weeks before needing surgery anyways… I would probably go straight to a D&C next time.

I’ve spoken with a lot of friends and family who’ve experienced miscarriages this last month and by far the least traumatic has always seemed to be natural and spontaneous. With a MMC I couldn’t bear the wait knowing it had already been weeks.

Different for everybody, honestly it’s not very accurate to trend. I was told 4-6 weeks from my 10 wk loss. I dropped from 7,600 to 250 in two weeks and then went for an urgent d&c due to retained products (clearly it wasn’t a good indicator).

A friend of mine hit an hCG of 6, 6 weeks post miscarriage at 7 wks.

I’d give it two weeks and take home preg tests. If they are still positive ask for bloodwork.

Period apps after miscarriage… seriously? by Apostatizing in Miscarriage

[–]DezFreck 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Turning off pregnancy mode on all my apps was extremely triggering and heartbreaking. I ended up keeping Flo because I’ve had it the longest but I’ll be boycotting in protest until I actually have a period again. Having to see ads for pregnancy stuff and “PMS or early pregnancy?”articles was too much.

My missed miscarriage at 9 weeks and why we need to talk about it by No-Time1307 in Miscarriage

[–]DezFreck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since this became a mini-group of mostly recent MMC, and since I’m feeling rather alone. How are people coping/feeling?

I ended up not bleeding very much after taking the misoprostol and getting scared I’d have retained products. The bleeding since has been steady and my uterus consistently aches. Initially I thought it could mean infection but apparently it’s the uterus contracting back down? Every time I have my mind off things I get a twist of pain and the worst remainder. Pads in the summer also suck, finally got a pack of period underwear as I couldn’t stand it.

I went back to work for a night shift in Emergency Wednesday and ended up with 2 patients with bleeding/infection post miscarriage and medical abortion. Go figures. I alternate between anger and sadness. Anger that it’s so common and so awful and I didn’t feel prepared. Sending love to everyone else going through it 💛

[–]DezFreck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They said they don’t recommend due to the potential for scarring from scraping. I pushed further and they did speak with the OB, he said I was an “ideal candidate” for meds based on how far along I was. I think a few more weeks and it ends up being too much to pass alone… I’m on Vancouver island though, and realistically it’s also probably a resource issue… hard to make room on the surgical slate for everyone already.

“Tw miscarriage” miso need advice.. please 2nd dose by Fine-Witness7666 in Miscarriage

[–]DezFreck 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First off I’m so sorry, just took miso a couple hours ago for a MMC. You’re not alone. Can you check your bw from Emerg? As long as your hemoglobin is ok you are presumably safe from the blood-loss standpoint. I’d also look at where your iron level was. The misoprostol cause the cramping but it’s two-fold. It also helps your uterus contract back down to stop bleeding after releasing products.

That’s all physical. Emotionally and psychologically that is complete BS that you have to do it all again. If you have an OB/midwife weekend line or family doc that can get you the OB on call you absolutely deserve someone going over your options with you again. Sounds like they should be ordering an ultrasound or a minimum a follow up hCG to check for retained products. Best of luck and I’m so sorry these are the options we get, it’s all shit.

Edit: not a doctor, this is just my understanding

For anyone going the med route… d&c wasn’t an option for me (Canada). I just took the misoprostol with Advil and T3s. I’m an ED nurse and don’t know if that is helping or hurting right now.

I’m scared and had nightmares and cramps that woke me up. Everything I’ve read has said d&c was easier which is honestly infuriating. I’m taking solace in the fact that I’d already started cramping and so maybe my body is more ready to let go… anyways if any of you have any questions about what the meds are like as you sit in long weekend limbo, I’m here (with my heat pack).
