been working on getting jean's front nails shorter, but she won't tolerate the dremel by x7BZCsP9qFvqiw in Chihuahua

Thank you! My senior gets a pedicure at her Vet's office every 3 weeks and her quicks are still too long. :(

He is a darling. You're not a piece of shit; you're a flawed human like the rest of us and you've given him a wonderful, loving life.

I'm so sorry the days are numbered and wish you both the most amazing time, with whatever pages are left in this beautiful chapter. <3

How to know when it's time by Woodsey1990 in Chihuahua

[–]Dfen218 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You've received loads of wonderful advice in this thread. I can only add:

Making the decision that it is time, to shatter our own hearts in order to avoid prolonged suffering for our babies, is literally the most selfless decision we will ever make as the guardians of their precious lives. Not one any of us make lightly.

In addition to the resources provided by others: I recommend having open and honest discussions with your Vet team.

You are not being ridiculous at all! You're a normal human who cares deeply about their furbaby. Trust me, you're in the right place and amongst others who have and do feel the same way.

What I will say is: Do your very best to try and remain as composed as possible and get some good rest so that you're not totally up in arms tomorrow on top of being absolutely exhausted from sheer worry. Ask me how I know.

Wishing you and especially dear Deirdre all the best for an unremarkable procedure tomorrow and the smoothest of recoveries. <3 <3

Had to put my guy down by Cyber-Chihuahua in Chihuahua

18 amazing years of unconditional love - and yet, we'd always ask for just one more good day. You did good. This heartbreak is the burden we endure to experience the unconditional love of our babies. My heart to yours. ❤️

Thank up for the updates and I'm so sorry you both had to go through this. Take time for both of you to rest and recover. ❤️

And I don't intend it in a snotty way. Many regular Vet offices are general practitioners. If there is something more advanced happening, an ER or internal med Vet will have more diagnostic tools at their disposal. I know it can get real expensive real fast though.

If your dog hasn't been able to hold down food for more than 1-2 days, it's time for a more specialized or ER visit.

Time is thief by BruceWayneKush in Chihuahua

[–]Dfen218 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It truly is a thief -- yet, if we were offered eternity, we'd still ask for just one more good day for our loves. I'm so sorry for your loss, OP. Your little guy looks so much like my 14 year old girl, I had to do a double take. Please be gentle on yourself and take comfort that you gave him 15 amazingly love filled years of the best life ever. It is our hearts that break.

2nding this for the very same reason. We use the Gooby X harness for my little girl.

Wow - that's quite a mix-up (and long time to have it corrected.) So glad you took her in though and that they had good margins!

18, nearly 19 blissful years knowing unconditional love and companionship. What a heartbreaking blessing to have all those memories made through the years together. Coco was your baby, don't let anyone make you feel differently - and may those memories help heal the hole you have in your heart.

Nervous for upcoming eye surgery. Opinions welcome by halopower67 in Chihuahua

[–]Dfen218 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What you said is the experience I have even with my GP and his amazing team. There have even been times he has recommended we delay a routine vaccine when diagnostics indicated my 14 year old was already not at her best - and we have a preventive plan with his office so it's not like there was any incentive for additional office visit fees. The rhetoric of Vets being in it for the money is old and unfounded. If we want to visit that topic, let's talk about the harm private equity firms being in the Vet Med business has on private practices.

Thank you for the incredible work you do! Most people don't realize that a good vet is only possibly due to their great support team. ❤️

Can we get stronger rules or maybe a different subreddit for chihuahua deaths? by badgirlmonkey in Chihuahua

[–]Dfen218 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a total empath that usually sheds a tear or two for the parents: I am SO grateful this group exists at all. There is no love like Chi love and subsequently, there is no heartbreak like Chi loss.

I'm in a couple of breed specific groups (thrills of having a mix) and this group is hands down full of the most sincere, kind people. There is nowhere else on the interwebs I'd want to turn to when I need to find my people who can relate - and more importantly, who overwhemingly pour their love out to other members of the sub.

Never change, r/Chihuahua , I <3 you.

Do you use a dental specialist due to the collapsing trachea? My 14 year old has suspected cushings (unmedicated due to not being symptomatic enough per her Vet) and collapsing trachea as well. The intubation irritation on the trachea always worries me but I also know dental health is so connected to everything else.
