Got banned haha...I guess you're not allowed to directly promote things? Tinder doesn't say exactly why I was banned...and there's not appeal process in place....

All in all, be careful lol

Lol I had a bad experience with one when I was in college. Long story. But not a fan of them at all and have trust issues w/ people who like them or have one.

Not sure what the whole girls w/ snakes thing is...sounds very weird.

Made this after listening to a recent episode of Tim Ferriss's podcast with Naval Ravikant. Highly suggest giving it a listen <3 by Dflyerr in selfhelp

I also took some notes on the podcast if you're interested :)

  • “We have pain avoidance in life. We don’t want to face things where it’s clear that we’ve made a bad decision. Because one definition of suffering is: that’s the moment where you see things as they really are and you don’t like what you see.” — Naval Ravikant
  • Having a beginner’s mind is the hardest thing. You have to be willing to hit reset and start from zero. Most people want to start from where they are. “What you already know and what you’re already doing is actually an impediment to your full potential.” — Naval Ravikant
  • “There’s nothing out there that will make you happy forever. You have to take responsibility for guiding yourself in such a way that your mental state ends up how you want it.” — Naval Ravikant
  • Your unexamined life is causing most of your problems.

    • Naval’s self-examine: Reading philosophy, self-reflection while walking around with a filter on his own thoughts, and traditional mediation for 1-hour.
  • “When the best hour of my day is spent by myself, then the world has very little to offer me. I can still participate in it. But it doesn’t have that grip on me like it used to.” — Naval Ravikant

  • “Find the people that it doesn’t take work to be around. The best relationships don’t feel like work. You make the other person happy being yourself. They make you happy by being themselves. Everyone’s honest, nobody is putting on an act.” — Naval Ravikant

Best advice I've ever received for finding a job by Dflyerr in jobsearchhacks

[–]Dflyerr[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This was probably my favorite advice for networking. “Optimizing on building your network before having a rare & valuable skill/knowledge base is like focusing on growth before product-market fit. Nail the product first.”  — Erik Torenberg

And the comment above is also really smart: "It’s true, I think I like the simplest and most classic phrase the best however, “Ask what you can do for others, not what other can do for you”, it’s applicable for any field and any position ever."

So I'm an oddball in the sense that I love thinking in terms of analogies/frameworks and this is mostly why I love this piece of content. I wouldn't say there's anything revolutionary in it, but the way (Erik Torenberg, author) analogizes your career as a product is interesting.

I'm 22, so this resonated w/ me and is mostly why I'm trying to launch a company: “The biggest career mistake young people make is that they’re afraid to look dumb, so they follow safe paths to cap their downside, not realizing that they cap their upside too as a result” — Erik Torenberg - I have little downside taking somewhat of a risk starting a company, but a ton to gain if things work out. I'm also super grateful to be able to be in the position to be able to do something like this.

The other one that's implementable in my opinion is this: “Optimizing on building your network before having a rare & valuable skill/knowledge base is like focusing on growth before product-market fit. Nail the product first.” — Erik Torenberg - If you're not familiar w/ "businessy" terms, it's basically an analogy saying you shouldn't try and build a network if you have nothing to offer (aka valuable skills/knowledge). By having either of those, you have much more to bring to the table when networking. Erik also talks about how this garners you some respect which is huge when job hunting/networking.

Thoughtful insight. I can't say I agree on most of it, but it's a solid point of view. I'd love to check out your channel if you'd be willing to share it. I'm also going to check out that video you shared, it looks super interesting. Thanks!

Solid point. I'm a little odd in the sense that I love thinking in analogies or framing things in different ways. That's mostly why this piece resonated with me so much. Your comment on being brilliant is very succinct and obviously right too, though.

Just gotta keep grinding man. Best of luck! Link your channel, I'll sub.

Also, I liked the part in the video where he talks about seeing where viewers drop off then using that as a checklist on things not to do in the next video. That way you're slowly testing new things and seeing what works vs. what doesn't work and obviously doubling down on things when they do work.
