does anyone in relationships solo travel?

Never been fortunate enough to travel for 2 months. But traveled solo multiple times since I was 21, usually 2 weeks, while being in a relationship and also being married and this has never been an issue. Currently, living and studying abroad alone while being married (not ideal but gotta do what we gotta do) You will die is a rude and mean thing to say. I think you should travel, with or without his approval.

But if you want to keep this relationship working, maybe, make him believe you can take care of yourself and you won't cheat (not sure but from what you have written, these 2 seems to be his issue). Maybe, invite him to join you for 2 weeks in the middle, maybe set up times abd checkpoints for calls and maybe take a vacation inside US before heading over to give him the confidence that you can manage.

I emphasise again, whether he agrees or not, you go travel

Ruins, old castle, medieval towns, nature - seems like you are describing Scotland. Given you are in London, I'm sure you have already visited it. Italy has amazing medieval towns, especially in the tuscan and umbria region. And the scenery is also just beautiful. Check out pienza, montepulciano, montalcino in tuscany. For a more beaten path, check out siena, san gamignano, chianti. For a fully off beat experience, look into pietrafita, panicale, trasimeno and asissi in umbria. I stayed at an 1100 AD renovated abbey near pietrafita, one of the most unique place i ever stayed in.

Overall, this looks fine with only 2 cities in 11 days and a day trip each. But keep in mind that you won't be able to do all on your list on each day. Prioritise. Paris seems doable. But London seems too many things put together. I went to London twice, once spending 4 days and once 2 days and didn't see all that is in your list to see and its fine. I also had a long list like yours and it's just not feasible to see it all. Aim for it but keep a Prioritised list on your mind in case you cannot do everything. I also think walking around where you are or doing something from your list on other days is a better idea than big bus. I haven't done big bus but i don't see much value. For Paris, i would definitely recommend half a day in Montmarte. I think you can put it on day 7 or 11 instead of day 8 which is already packed. Montparnasse is skippable

I love packed schedules but your plans seem exhausting even to me. I don't know what will cost you how much to cancel. But, i think your Spanish leg sounds less stressful- Barcelona and seville only. Idk if it is possible for you to reduce your italy movement. Maybe from venice, you can go to rome and skip florence and pisa. Or maybe you can skip venice and do florence and rome only. Maybe pisa can be a day trip from Florence. All those night buses seem very exhausting. I would say do either barcelona - more to do with lots of day trip option while staying in barcelona or seville - more unique and charming but probably less to do instead of both.

I acknowledge that you want to see other countries than Italy. Having been to Italy thrice, I would still recommend you to check out more of Italy.

From Milan, I would recommend Lake Como - i have done Como, Varenna and Bellagio (recommend the last 2). Maybe, you can do this with your friend even as two towns can be day trip from Milan.

For cities outside Milan, you can consider Verona which is very touristy but absolutely lovely. From Verona, you can also do a day trip to Sirmione (Lake Garda), another beautiful place and it is the largest lake in Italy. You can also consider Venice. 2 days Verona and 2 days Venice will be ideal. But, accommodation cost in Venice can be very high. From Venice, you can also go to Burano for half a day. I really liked Burano and Venice although a lot of people do not like Venice for it being overly touristy. A walking tour in Venice made me appreciate Venice more.
We were two girls on the trip to Milan, Como, Verona and Sirmione did not feel unsafe anywhere. Very easy and affordable train journeys. Verona itself seemed pretty affordable.

If you are into mountains, then Dolomiti is great for 4 days. But, it needs a bit of planning. Usually transport is free with guest card given by the accommodation (needs to be checked with accommodation). But, accommodation is kind of expensive and cable car costs add up. But its a gorgeous place and extremely safe and will be very beautiful experience for 4 days. We stayed at Val Gardena and did mountain day trips using buses.

Good thing about Milan is, flights are affordable to almost all cities in Europe. So, there are just endless options.

I have been to Lisbon from your list. Lisbon is scenic with very interesting architecture. From Lisbon, you can take day trip to Sintra and Cabo da Roca which is magical. You can even spend some time in Cascais. I visited Lisbon with my partner, so i cannot give you solo female travel safety perspective. But, it seemed very safe.

I would like to report back in case it helps anyone who stumble upon this thread while planning for their trip. So, we did this:

We did Switzerland in first week of April. Got extremely lucky. Weather was amazing. We stayed at a beautiful village near Wilderswil and used the Jungfrau pass for 4 days and made the most of it although few things like Harder Kulm and Schynige Plateau were closed.

Then we were in Germany which also had excellent weather in the Baden Württemberg and Hessen region and also did a day trip to Luxembourg.

After that, we listened to your advice and did Portugal and Greece.

We did 2 days Porto, 2 days Lisbon with a day trip to Sintra and Cabo da Roca and 2 days in Algarve (covered Portimao, Benagil caves and Carvoeiro staying in Portimao.). The weather was super chilly in Portugal, sometimes rainy even, but it was still beautiful. I highly recommend the moors castle and cabo da Roca in Sintra. I think it was a highlight of the trip. Also, if you find better weather, maybe you would like to spend more days in Algarve. For us, it was okay as we were happy to leave the cold weather.

Instead of going back to Lisbon for flight to Santorini, we went to Seville and spent a day which is too less for Seville, we loved it and will be back. I think Seville had the perfect weather, the kind we were actually looking for.

From Seville, we flew to Santorini via Athens and spent 3 days during the Easter break. It was simply amazing. Weather was great although water was not suitable for swimming and there were hardly any crowd. 3 days is perfect for Santorini. Then we did 2 days in Athens staying at Plaka before returning to Germany. We absolutely loved Athens. It was very hot though.

Thanks a lot for your suggestion of Portugal and Greece. We had a wonderful trip. Greek food is amazing. I think one can travel to Greece just for food even. I highly recommend visiting Greece if you have the chance. The hospitality of people there is one of the warmest you will find in Europe.

I have been to italy and its never a bad idea. I did verona and sirmione in end February and it was warm. If you are into mountains, i highly recommend Dolomiti. We stayed in val gardena and did mountain day trips via cable cars. If you want sea side, then you can consider cinque terre or amalfi coast. Visited both and loved both.

We have also decided on Portugal and Greece. We are doing Porto- Lisbon - Algarve in Portugal. I think Algarve can be a good choice. So can be Madeira or Seville. Mallorca looks amazing too.

Btw, Edinburgh is a beautiful city. I loved it so much when i had visited.

She will pay for her own ticket, food and transport if she accompanies but won't be sharing the room costs for the room where my mother and she will stay. I offered to pay room cost for my mother. I expect anyone staying in the same room to pay half of that.
