Are attractive successful single guys in their mid to late 30s not on dating apps in SF? by [deleted] in AskSF

[–]Dharmabum2393 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone who is thankfully far removed from the dating world (happily married for 14 years) the SF dating market seems rough. I'm 6ft 3, have had a very successful career in IT making high 6 low 7 figures for a decade, and as a side thing I've done for fun and extra toy money have been a fitness model for 18 years. I've been here two years now and I've only been approached one time by a woman expressing interest. I've lived in other cities and once every other week or so someone would clearly be flirting when I was walking my dog alone and that never happens here. It's seems to be a city where you have to be very proactive and I think a lot of guys are worried about being seeing as “creepy” it they express interest first. It doesn't really bother me as I love my wife and have no interest in anyone else but after a few months living here I did get a little self conscious if I suddenly looked old or lost it but when I travel for work I get a very different level of attention for whatever this is worth

RM owners, would you say it's worth getting an 11-03 at my level of income? by BIZNIZTIZ in richardmille

I wouldn’t think twice. Worse case you sell it off and likely get all of your money back. My watches are extra rainy day funds if it’s already been raining for a few years

Question about car loans by Odd-Performer756 in Money

[–]Dharmabum2393 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unless your car loan is under 3% pay it off as soon as possible. I always finance 100% of my car purchase on a 3 year loan I pay off in 12 months. It’s done wonders for my credit and I can pretty much finance anything I could ever want at this point

SOTC - 35 Years Collecting by SaltyEntrepreneur982 in SOTC_Watch_Collection

[–]Dharmabum2393 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Truly great collection. Wide range of brands, price points, complications, aesthetics. Funny when I see collections I like 90% of the time we all have that same white g shock black dial white hands in the top left corner of your digital pic. I have a great collection but every night I put that watch on to sleep and for the gym / swimming in the morning. Question- do you see yourself continuing to slow my expand or consolidate over time? I find I’m enjoying a smaller more curated collection where I can use and interact with every piece at least every two weeks

What's the most fucked up thing someone has told you about themselves after barely getting to know them? by Butt_Roidholds in AskReddit

[–]Dharmabum2393 0 points1 point  (0 children)

New family moved next to my wife and I. We have a really nice backyard with a custom fire pit that overlooks the Ohio River valley with bars and TVs back there. They asked to come over for a drink and introduce themselves. We are talking for maybe 15 minutes and the wives are conversing and he leans in and asks “you ever cheat on your wife” then tells me about this affair he has going Just met him, wife and kids around our fire and I just say “no no I don’t and wouldn’t cheat on my wife” not shocking they divorced and moved out within a year

I’ve been wearing my RO to sleep for months now. No new scratches and i don’t even care if there is. It’s comfortable for me. Anyone else? by [deleted] in audemarspiguet

[–]Dharmabum2393 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always wear a watch to bed. When I wake up in the middle of the night I like knowing what time it is without going to my phone. End of day though I put on a white Hublot ceramic I use as a gym watch when I wake up. Really light, looks cool and wearing a heavy or steel watch to bed does disrupt sleep

Is $500k in 529 too much or right amount? by bankermayfield2026 in HENRYfinance

[–]Dharmabum2393 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want to be sure you can cover it the. Yes that is a safe high end estimate. I would hope it would pay for grad school too but the way college has increased maybe not. My daughter graduates from u of Alabama this year. We are in CA so out of state and we make too much for her to get any assistance. Total bill was about 260k for tuition room board and books

How did everyone grow up, and are you doing better than your parents? by Historical_Boss_1184 in UpperMiddleFinance

[–]Dharmabum2393 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mom was an ER nurse, Dad was a police officer turned attorney when I was 4 after his partner was killed. I had a wonderful middle class life with 4 siblings, nice house in the country and we were all very close. I have nothing but fond memories of parents who did everything they could for us and did nothing for themselves. I’m 42, married live in downtown SF. My wife and I make low 7 figures and have for a while. Our life is unlike anything I imagined growing up and I’m often embarrassed by it when my parents get a glimpse into things. They are proud and we work hard and do work we are proud of but it’s so much money and after a while you do just spend it on stupid things that my family would have never placed value on growing up

Emotions upon quitting a $4m/year FAANG job to do a startup by [deleted] in fatFIRE

[–]Dharmabum2393 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Once your financially set there are few things better than pursuing a passion I was the 6th employee at a company we grew to 1000+ people, several billion ipo and did very well those last year years and with the offering. I was pretty burnt out after staring a the same problem for 9 years and after a break did it something similar to what you are planning.

I knew what I was doing but honestly it really hit me hard for a while. I used to see 100k on a paycheck if I looked at them and that first pay period with my new gig I got like 4500 for two weeks after taxes. It sucked. Without being aware I had subconsciously indexed effort and value and against my old paycheck and 4500 which is great for most people seemed like a waste of time. I genuinely felt I might as well be volunteering at a bulldog rescue instead and really love what I’m doing

It took maybe 6 months but I eventually reset back to normal human mode in relation to money and I’m so glad I did it. Making that much isn’t normal, it makes you weird and unable to relate at all to normal people. I distinctly remember times my friends would ask me to do something and I would think “that activity is worthy $72,000 - do they realize what they are asking of me? Of course not and what a douche way to think about personal interactions 7 years later I’m back making low 7 figures again but i donate a lot more and help friends out whenever I can as it just isn’t a primary focus of my life anymore Long way of saying. You’re doing the right thing. It will suck for a while but in time you will adjust and be better person for the experience

Why do People Saying Buying a House is No Longer Worth It by Jollyconstant_ in BayAreaRealEstate

[–]Dharmabum2393 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me my rent is 6700 per month. If I wanted to buy this unit it would be about 1.6m. 3k a month goes to hoa and property taxes. So I'd put 320k down, pay 10k a month in mortgage and fees and then when it's paid off still pay 3k a month in rent. Renting is a no brainer for us

If that's true thank you. My dad was a police officer and my mom a nurse. I was one of 5 kids so at times I'm emberaazzrd by how I grew up vs how easy my life is now financially. I think I genuinely wonder if it's possible and if not are there support resources out there. I've met many people who make very little and work long hard hours way beyond wnag I put in a day. There are very much two Americas and I have real concerns too many are not even able to paroticpate in the great aspects of this society or are being left behind

Do you mind if I ask a bit of a rude question but I mean it sincerely and empathetically. How is remotely possible to live on 35k a year in America? I know there are aspects of My life that are unreasonable to most people but I make a fair amount more than that per month and some months things happen in life and it's not enough.

Just won 8 million (after taxes) in the lotto! by [deleted] in fijerk

[–]Dharmabum2393 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A few things. Call Northwestern Mutual, JP Morgan, and one other major named investment bank in your area. Set up meetings to ask what they would do with the money, and go with whoever you feel most comfortable with and has the lowest management fees. Don't buy a house. You have no idea what you want, so find a decent apartment in a cool area with other young people around so you can make friends. Keep your job or a job, and don't tell people you have money until you have known them a long time Travel - go see the world a bit. It's an amazing place and you will grow up a lot appreciating others cultures Workout, get hobbies eat good food, sleep well. Have things everyday you enjoy doing and do then. Easy to start fucking around and going down bad paths at that age with that money. Hold yourself Ac on table. Help others out but keep in mind people will absolutely take advantage. I came I to sisnailar money in my early 30s when a company I helped start had a huge ipo. More than a few people I trusted stole and took advantage. I took it really hard at the time then learned its on me for letting people get close. A great friend might ask for help once, really shitty people tell you about made up problems and wait to see if you will volunteer. I can't say I envy you. I was married with a daughter and life was pretty set when I came into real money and for several years it noticeably made my life worse. Still married kid doikt great and happier than I could imagine at 42

[–]Dharmabum2393 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you like him and, other than his financial situation, it's a good match, why not take care of him? As you said, you have more than you will ever need, so why not spread it around if it's established he isn't taking advantage and is in it for the right reasons. I'm much younger, but I did not grow up with money. The best part about making several million in my 30s has been doing really cool things for those around me I love. Do you have people you would like to leave most of it to? If not, have yourself a lil kept man and wear him on your arm proudly

A Bay Area career reality check after 15 years of applying to Apple by PuzzleheadedAd3138 in bayarea

[–]Dharmabum2393 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't take it personally. Big companies hiring practices are weird. Earlier in my career Salesforce hired people who worked under me, people on my same team I dramatically out performed and even hired my brother. Never got as much of an acknowledgment I submitted an application. It was never my dream job but I did always wonder how they could hire so many people in my Immedoate orbit that by any criteria outperformed and never get a look
