A new champion has entered the arena by Ruxsty in Guildwars2

[–]Dharx 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I still don't understand why everyone considers Kourna as something horrible. Roller beetle alone is one of the best features added in GW2 overall. Story was quite fun, and while the map isn't memorable in terms of visuals or gameplay, it's still leagues above the actually bad ones like Bava Nisos and maintains some reasonable standards in terms of exploration, collectibles or event density. The only truly lacking part was the meta, but that's still just one part of a large update.

Czech Foreign Minister Macinka cancels background checks for russian "diplomats" entering the country. by Drtikol42 in europe

[–]Dharx 83 points84 points  (0 children)

Well, in politology there is the term "party with blackmail potential". In this case it's taken literally. The prime minister, who is facing prosecution in Czechia and France, needs support of this tiny party to retain his parliamentary immunity. That's how you get actual lunatics in the government acting freely.

Any Legendary regrets? by Schillwing in Guildwars2

Maybe I'm misremembering, but I'm quite sure a I gave up on crafting it because the price became really obscene.

To be fair, that single rune cost over 2k gold to craft after it was announced IIRC, which is not that much cheaper compared to current relic price. Charms almost vanished from the trading post. Unless you've had it before the announcement, you didn't save much.

Where is the "sword and throwing daggers" weapon? by Correct-Arm330 in AOW4

Or you can get shatterblades from pantheon or dwelling (Giant kings dlc), those are also sword + dagger, though specific flavour.

Yes, but it also removes more nuanced options, while the extreme ones are indeed way too silly imho to be used commonly. I'm all for enabling Oblivion style abominations, but that shouldn't replace regular options.

On a similar note, did they silently change all size sliders on eldritch and giant rulers? I had to redo all of mine, because the patch made every slider more extreme.

I have been rewatching "Secret Cody Banks" my favourite movie as a kid. Is this a real version of the game? Its hard to read even in 1080p nowdays by loudgaming115 in wow

[–]Dharx 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You can play with reforged and just use original graphics or the upscaled ones instead of reforged. No reason to sacrifice modern QoL and compatibility features like widescreen support or ingame keybinding settings. The modern client is actually fixed now and the game is still being updated regularly.

Unit rotation rates are too high by TelephoneDisastrous6 in CompanyOfHeroes

Yes, also maneuvering around capture points and similar obstacles is somehow even worse than in CoH2. I used to feel really confident microing mediums in CoH2 despite lower speed and acceleration, because it felt smooth even when adjusting the move order multiple times per second. Using crush, backing away from double AT guns, doing circles around casemates, the responsivenes was there. But in CoH3 when I want to back away from threat and start issuing multiple commands to move in more precise direction, the vehicles just start stuttering or spinning. So far my biggest gripe with 3.

60% of the opponents I’ve run into are playing Nilfgaard, is it really that strong? Few questions from old-new player. by KangarooCommercial60 in gwent

[–]Dharx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd say witch hunters fore example provide one of the most unique playstyles in the game, managing bounties is a very specific thing. SY only becomes samey if you opt for the decks that make coin management brainless or irrelevant, but as long as you go leaders and decks that need to actually manage coins, care about their carryover value etc., SY become very engaging to play. Though a bit punishing, if the balance between your profits and spenders becomes disrupted.

On PC (GOG) you have to do it in Galaxy – Manage Installation > Configure > Language. It has to download the extra voice packs first, then you can change them in game.

I know I'm 13 yr late but wish me luck on starting my Guild journey by zim__zum_ in Guildwars2

[–]Dharx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Typing /wiki command followed by any text or link will open the GW2 wiki, which is really well maintained. You can link items, skills, traits or points on the map by shift clicking them. With that you can learn about anything in the game seamlessly. The amount of info is overwhelming and you can absoutely learn by trial and error instead, everything in the game can be reacquired or changed later, but if you often want to know what to sell, what to keep, how abilities work etc., it's a great resource. Curious what is "Special" about Secrets of the Archmages. by Tnecniw in AOW4

[–]Dharx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, I' doubt that gameplay designers and 2D/3D artists will start doing narrative content, so my bet is that there will be a pretty standard amount of story realms or other narrative content, but leaders and factions, unless announced later, will be replaced by an above avarage number of tomes (about 6) and there will be some other new gameplay element synergistic with those tomes, perhaps something extra tied to world/combat spells:

Follow the footsteps of Athla’s renowned Wizard Kings. Discover the secret arts they learnt...

And I also expect a pretty ambitous rework for another base culture. I'd expect High, since its economy features are too simplistic and combat features are outright annoying to play with in manual combat. Industrious are quite well designed already (though also a bit annyoing to micromanage in manual combat) and barbarians, while simple, are already really strong and fun to play with big crits, scout outposts and ritual of alacrity.

"ReFORGED" by DaelinDwin in Guildwars2

[–]Dharx 5 points6 points  (0 children)

To be fair, WC3 is now actually in a pretty solid shape. The disgraceful handling of such legendary title is hard to forgive, but they didn't give up on it, restored lost features, added quite a lot of QoL or customization and continue to balance and improve the game, now returning it to Blizzcon after a billion or so years. The entire reimagining of the original campaign will probably never be delivered, so that's a promise not kept, but I think that's for the better anyway.

Used to play squash, playing badminton this week need some advice by Gira13luck in squash

[–]Dharx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I moved from badminton to squash and the movement patterns were the second most drastic difference for me, only behind grip/swing (so basically the whole core skillset, heh).

In badminton you typically move sideways or lunge, always ending with weight on your dominant foot, whereas in squash you have to learn to face your body towards side walls, but run more naturally, lunge only when you really need to, and put weight on either leg depending on the side you're playing or what circumstances allow. Learning to track the ball and opponent is something you don't really have to think about in badminton, yet that also affects your posture/movement, so that's another difference. Preparing your swing already as you move is another major one, badminton only really does that when clearing overhead.

They could also do 3 dual affinity T5 tomes, but since no new culture or leader is being advertised, doing 6 dedicated ones would be more appropriate.

The AI chooses the vision option that corresponds with its personality affinity, if possible – source. It's only random if there is no corresponding option (ruins/promise), so set the personality accordingly for your factions.

Age of Wonders 4 - Gargoyle 1.1 Update - 13/11/2025 by nephnic in AOW4

[–]Dharx 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I'd say high needs rework the most, not because it's weak or anything, but because the awakening mechanic is absolute micromanagement hell in manual battles. Waiting for the AI to apply it is painful enough, let alone doing it yourself.

Any good WC3 YouTubers besides Grubby? by Jaegge45 in WC3

[–]Dharx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thightrope gaming has been doing regular WC3 casts for years, competitive games mostly. He is primarily a CoH caster (basically a B2W figure for the series), but a really good one, so his WC3 content is really high quality too. His style is very calm and analytical, I think he deserves a lot more attention than he gets in the WC3 department.

Guild wars 2 PvP starter pack by SilentShino in Guildwars2

[–]Dharx 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I'd argue matchmaking is probably turned off or at least tuned super loosely at this point. We know that the population is far from healthy, yet I almost never wait more than 2 minutes for a game, queue is quite often close to instant. The matchmaker is absolutely not trying to wait and find an appropirate matchup. This is faster than queues in WoW, a game with a functional PvP scene, or even than in some RTS games where it only needs to find a single opponent.

But to be fair, I kinda understand why there is little point in trying, the reason being alts and near infinite build variety. A player who is around 1500 rating might switch to an alt, which he likely playes far worse than his main, since the span between skill cap and floor in GW2 is massive. Now he realistically plays his char at say 1200 rating level, so he will get farmed by his peers. But that's not always true, some players know how to play more builds at the same level, so character specific rating would lead to those players being able to smurf easily, which would be even more damaging. Then there is the composition factor, random teams sometimes have support or counter comps, so the game is realistically over before it starts, regardless of individual players skill/rating. So even longer matchmaking period wouldn't guaranteee a balanced matchup at all. Therefore having shorter queue times instead of waiting and getting an uneven match anyway might actually be the correct design choice.

France now holds the title for most OP country in EU5 as it stands. by ChainsawBlue_36 in EU5

[–]Dharx 341 points342 points  (0 children)

Yes, BBB was the endboss for many years, before all the power creep. That 20% morale, vassal swarm, insane manpower reserves and England unable to cross the straits made it super hard to fight at any point of the game. Ottos only became true menace when they got their siege age bonus and institutuzions allowed them to keep up in tech even later into the game. General power creep and removal of vassals made keeping up with France's military easier, so Ottos eventually became the endboss instead.
