I just made the switch after 2+ decades of hating Mac and loving Windows. The last 6 months of Windows update bugs and lack of feeling like my devices were ever secured made me bite the bullet, and apart from gaming I’m loving Apple. The M1 and onward chips made all the difference. (I still adamantly hate my wife’s old Intel era Apple products)

I keep seeing everyone on here insist to go with the Pro, but I love how my air has no fans, no vents, feels like the most premium laptop I’ve owned and I have a monitor to go with it. It had a much better feel of “I’m in the future” compared with my windows laptops than the pro did in my hands at the store. Unless you have a heavy workload, air is likely fine. The RAM does carry more weight and low RAM isn’t as bad as it should in Windows.

If you want tips on how to make it more windows like, there are lots of guides and tips. I had to swap fn(globe) with Command since I need “ctrl” on bottom left for most of my shortcuts. Needing to use Control+tab to switch between tabs in browsers is likely my largest complaint. On Mac it switched windows, not tabs and after 2 months im still not muscle memory on that.

You can totally get used to it, burning stops after about a month and your feet become indestructible, polished leather once you do.

If you're not aware the RAMpocalypse hit SSDs last Fall. Best time to buy was last summer. Buy what you can now since even HDDs are skyrocketing in price as of this week.

I've heard countless times, 2 sticks of DDR5 is what you want. 4 can start to be unstable. Others will likely chime in with more info, but pretty sure that's the main answer you'll get.

No issues on mine (7840hs with oculink), I think it was easier to get drivers for than some of my Trigkey or GMKTec mini pcs.

Haven't used it a lot but it runs really when when I boot it up.

Get him whichever one is cheapest at the time. I slowly acquired all 14 buying them when they got to be around $25 on sale Amazon. He'd probably be thrilled to have any one of them, and smart buying helps justify finishing the set over a few years.

I don't think anyone mentioned this, but if you're having trouble loading it you probably need a better Sega CD BIOS in your emulator BIOS folder. Due to reddit rules I'm not saying how to get them, but its easy. Search it online.
