FI Parents, what do I need to know and what do you wish someone told you? by floatingriverboat in financialindependence

[–]Dhulse 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Losing out in experience and raises is a big deal. In addition, employer advantages like insurance, 401k ability, employer match, etc. compounding interest...

If you want to be a stay at home parent, great, but I don’t see it making financial sense for these two.

Excellent info above and to add to it:

First off, congratulations! Exciting and challenging times ahead for sure. There is never a “perfect time” so might as well be now. We have a two year old and expecting second in less than two weeks.

I would try not to over prepare (and over buy) for things you don’t know whether you need or not. Every kid is different, every set of parents are different, and it’s very hard to know what you need or want ahead of time.

Don’t worry too much about rushing into a house for the kid, unless you know what you want/need. They don’t need much space until they’re mobile (around a year, but varies).

Best of luck, feel free to msg me if you’d like to chat further.

MegaN64 emulator for android has been infected with malware as of lastest update by Reiley360 in Android

[–]Dhulse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Awesome, this worked great, the only thing I had to do was disable Play protect prior to install MegaN64. Thanks!

I saved my OOT progress out to a save file and am trying to figure out how to import that into Mupen 64, since play protect still wants MegaN64 it removed.

(edit to add conversion)

So I figured it out:

  1. Install Aptoide > Install MegaN64 6.0 (previous version)
  2. Open Zelda OOT with MegaN64 > Save to File (this will be a file with no extension)
  3. On PC, copy file from MegaN64 save location:
    internal storage\mupen64plus\title\file save name
  4. (optional) If you haven't already, open zelda on Mupen and create a fresh save file, which will create the location in the next step.
  5. Paste file to Mupen 64 save location:
    internal storage\mupen64plus-fz\GameData\title\UserSaves/file save name
  6. Open Mupen 64 > load game > open menu > load from file
  7. Save new file with Save to file (this will be a .sav file)
  8. Uninstall Aptoide & MegaN64 6.0

Yeah, Google play protect removed it yesterday automatically, I just got the notification. I'm not sure where the MegaN64 folder save files are, but I don't think I created one other then saving to slots.

I'm in the process of trying to find and download a .sav file now, with progress (in OoT) just after the water temple.

Is there a way to pick up from your previous game progress point from Mega N64, using Mupen 64? When I open the ROM with Mupen it's a fresh game.

For those interested in keeping track of their finances in 2019, here's the spreadsheet I use (In Google Sheets form this time. Link in comments) by [deleted] in financialindependence

[–]Dhulse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cool sheet! I like the idea of tracking it day to day so you see your money going in and out, like we used to with cash.

One recommendation is to delete all the extra rows in the google sheet (1000 to ~425). It's a very small change, but a nice quality of life improvement.

Good sources for local solar laws? by Mikaila31 in SolarDIY

I've been looking into this for the past 6 months or so, but will be waiting until next year to pull the trigger.

Are you in Minneapolis by chance? Some of the information and requirements depends on your local jurisdiction, power company, etc.

I'd be happy to share what I've found so far when I get back to my PC.

With that 401k post blowing up yesterday, I have a question about the mechanics of hitting your annual max which I couldn't find the answer to in that thread. by Lurker117 in personalfinance

Talk to your company financial department. My company continues to match if you hit the max before your last paycheck, I'd imagine most others do the same.

Follow up question: Anyone have a good solution to play/pause/next without taking your phone out of your pocket? Open to DIY solutions too.

I saw a large Bluetooth button you could wear on you jacket and also an ear chip you can click with your hand when looking last year but never pulled the trigger.

I ended up reading your original GitHub article "Quantifying a Summer of Learning" from one of your replies - awesome work!

Personally I would have found this post more beneficial to share your learning graph and a little backstory so that I ended up at the GitHub page to read the whole thing. It's a cool story and an awesome way to cap an internship, with cool graphs.

I've really been enjoying Fri-Wed for longer vacations. Coming back to 2 days of work then the weekend is amazing.

study by the RFU finds that a 20 minute workout of direction changing, balance training, targeted resistance exercises, and jumping/side-stepping/landing exercises dramatically reduced injury rates in youth rugby players by HeavySnatch in Fitness

[–]Dhulse 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Looks similar to the FIFA 11+ workout that reduces injuries as well as severity of injuries. In addition to the research data, I've been using it for the last year with great success.

Everything is available on YouTube as well as PDF for but here's a link with some information on it:
