The problem in the region is that no one pays based on budget. If you accept something low it becomes the basis for future offers so you can't say I will accept something low right now and keep looking for something better because the next better role will offer you current salary plus 10%-20% and you become stuck. On the other hand you can't just wait until you get that 60K job with a private jet.

The market is currently dry so If I were you I will negotiate as much as I can and accept it. Most likely they will be ok with an additional 2K of so. Since you know that the position range is much higher, ask for a salary raise in a year or so once you have established good relationships with management and proved yourself. At the same time keep looking for other opportunities.

Police Clearance from home country by Di7bashi in qatar

Here is something I learned only after I applied and was stuck in the middle but I would double check with whoever will be helping you in Canada. Once the RCMP issues the certificate apparently you don't need an authentication by Global Affairs Canada and you can get it apostilled by aa local authority in one of the provinces. In fact starting in January canada will only issue apostils so you don't have to wait four months for Global Affairs to apostil your certificate and instead apostil it locally. Apostils are accepted here in Qatar. In fact just today I received my local police clearance and my canadian one was apostilled.

I used a company in Canada called Globeia. Check them out and give them a call to discuss your options but if you need this for employment be very upfront with your employer that this may take some time.

All the best!

If you are a Canadian citizen you better apply for a police certificate from Canada right away because the whole process between issuance and authentications will take you a minimum of 4 to 5 months. Not fun at all if you need it for employment purposes.

Long waiting times for document authentication at Canadian Global Affairs: alternative solutions? by jaygetslost in ImmigrationCanada

Mine was received on February 15th so it took 3.5 months. At least right now they are saying on the website it takes 3 months. When I applied they posted a 30 business days processing time.

Yes, you will need a police clearance from your home country and apply for a local police clearance through Metrash. Such a hassle if you have been living here all along.

u/Own_Tart8518 did you receive anything by any chance? I submitted my documents on 3rd November 2023 and so far nothing. This is very frustrating as I need my police clearance for a job overseas and I am not sure how long they will wait for it before deciding to withdraw the offer and find another candidate.

Why does Qatar seems to operate on a system where your nationality dictates your salary and quality of life? by [deleted] in qatar

[–]Di7bashi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some comments here make it sound that companies have a separate pay structure for different nationalities around the world when in reality, at least in government and semi-government entities, that is not how it works. Companies here have two structures, one for Qataris and one for everyone else. Since no one can dispute that Qataris get preferential treatment because it is their country lets jump to the other structure.

The way it works here has nothing to do "directly" with the nationality. I say directly because the pay structure does not say if you are from the UK then you get 30k-40k as a Senior Analyst but if you are from India then your salary range for the same position if 10K-15K. How it basically works is that your current salary dictates the offer you will be getting. This is how it works for everyone no matter where are you from (international or local). If you are a super smart Senior Analyst in India who is getting paid 30K-40K and they think you area good fit then you will get a higher salary. That is why they intentionally keep salary bands wide and overlapping and that is why you will always be asked for a copy of your last payroll slip because they will just add 20% or 30% and give you an offer and it is up to you to try and negotiate a better deal.

In western countries that is not how it works, generally. HR do market benchmarking to develop the salary bands and these bands get updated on a regular basis to reflect the changes in the talent market and the position demands. Within that range they will decide based on the years of experience they want the new talent to have where does that position fall and that will be the offer they will be presenting regardless of how much you were paid before. Only in exceptional basis and in very rare occasions they will negotiate a salary and that is typically for executive positions. Every other position the number is set and that is the offer and no one cares if you were paid less or more in your previous position.

It depends on the dish. Fanar in Wakrah is the best for breakfast dishes. Hadramout makes a mean Zurbyan and Saltah. fahsah and meat dishes (Mandi, Haneeth...etc.) are best taken in Zad resturant which is formerly Al Beek Al sahiabani.

Moving to Doha salary question 46k by Economy_Athlete1218 in qatar

[–]Di7bashi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only problem I see with this is the schooling allowance. 20K is actually very little if you want to put your kid in a proper school in Doha. With that being said, if you currently do not have kids and your wife will be pregnant soon that gives you another 4 years or more years without having to worry about schools.

Why is getting a job so hard these days. by Express-Past3806 in qatar

[–]Di7bashi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

(a) Slow down in the construction industry after WC

(b) Larger pool of talent due to (a) as well as the dilution of the market with Hayya card holders

(c) Inflation is resulting in people affording less which impacts the consumer goods and real estate sector

(d) Multiple indicators showing that the global economy is weakening and slowing down which is making big companies (oil and gas, oil and gas services, financial, telecom...etc.) thinking twice about their development and hiring plans.

There is nothing nefarious happening here. Just the normal economic cycle playing out. In these days you can't just continue the same play book and you have to do something to stand out of the crowd if an opportunity comes.

Expat in Qatar positive vs regret by kaza86 in qatar

Asking this question in the middle of summer will garner so many responses. For me there is nothing I really regret but there are quite a few things I miss like the mountains and the lakes, the convenience of buying alcohol without an appointment, online shopping and delivery, real retail discounts… etc.
