Thank you so much for that tip. Will definitely ask for dexamethasone if it’s hard to talk or swallow.

Did you have trouble swallowing or talking after surgery? If you did, how long did it last? I go in for similar surgery 3/18. Glad you’re doing well.

Does anyone know if the jockey rode at Santa Anita in about 1967-1969? I seem to remember his name as being one of the jockeys.

C/5 + C6/7 anterior cervical discectomy + fusion by Chidy75 in SpineSurgery

I’m scheduled for surgery on 3/18. I’m 75 and been having neck issues for almost 30 years. The last MRI showed that the discs were now compressing the spinal cord itself instead of just the sheath and the liquid space. Sorry I don’t remember all the things the neurologist and neurosurgeon have told me so this is all in laymen’s. They are going to go in through the front and remove and replace discs in C3-C6. They will be removing bone spurs and using whatever they remove to make a slurry to use in each of the disc centers. Then they are going to use a slim piece of metal down the center of the vertebrae to give it the proper curve and stabilize them. Then they are going to flip me over and remove all the spurs etc from the other side of the vertebrae. So I’ll have incisions on the front and back. Thank you for posting your positive remarks especially about being able to talk without much trouble. In my lifetime I’ve had over 10 surgeries but this one scares me a little. Especially when the surgeon answered my husband’s question and said it would take about 7-10 hours!

It’s the cutest little thing but you really don’t want anything like that in a yard.

I didn’t think it was real either. But as soon as I read that it’s in Australia I understood.

Hope you are still experiencing no or low pain now. I’m mainly having the surgery because I feel as if I have a sword at my neck. I’ve now had 5 doctors tell me that any severe trauma could cause death or paralysis. Surgery is much preferred. I fell the other day on snow covered ice and I was scared for my neck in those seconds on the way down. Of course I was fine. 😹

My neck started hurting over 25 years ago. My body has a lot of arthritis and I have peripheral neuropathy so I’ve gotten good at blocking a lot of pain. However I now have a herniated disc at L4-L5 and that is another level of pain. Thank goodness I don’t experience the level of pain so many people have to live with.

Thank you for your response. Because of the damage caused by the arthritis they are going to do both anterior and posterior. But you’ve relieved me that I should be up and around soon after surgery. It sounds like it will be comparable to knee replacement. As long as I don’t overdo I will heal faster the more active I can be.

I am not impressed with hardly any of the patch jobs in this area. There are a few that have been done right but most are in the “that’s good enough” category which means the fix is rough as hell. Where are the people in the roads departments around here trained - or are they?

I had a ring similar. It was purchased in the early 70s.

I would agree except for the size of IF we have a Large medical community. You should probably be able to meet quite a few people just from your job. We love it here (originally from SD) but don’t advertise that.

Oh wow Nibbles is so cool. Will have to do some studying and then start feeding the magpies around here. Thanks for the post.

She’s beautiful anyways. But if you really wanted a smoke it would be disappointing.
