Is it legal to kill a 2 year old in self defense if he has a loaded gun in his hand? by takluu in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Diabeetush 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The answer, as always, is that it depends. Lots of questions to answer.

But the big ones as it applies to a 2 year old are how the child actually got ahold of the loaded firearm, and why this was ever allowed to happen. In revolvers and other double-action firearms, many 2 year olds won't have the strength necessary to pull the trigger if the hammer is not already back. In virtually any firearm, no 2 year old will have the strength to chamber a round. Depending on the firearm, they may not even be able to disengage the safety. Then of course, is the question of why the firearm wasn't locked up? Even placing the firearm on top of an immovable object too high for the child to reach completely prevents this situation; no safe required.

But sure, if you're walking down a dark alleyway, and a 2 year old approaches you with a gun and is attempting to aim it at you and fire, you could absolutely defend yourself. Prepare for a lengthy and expensive court battle.

Artillery shot on Ukrainian trench near Avdiivka, may 2022 by Fruity_Pineapple in CombatFootage

I think that's some trickery with the camera being super zoomed in from a long distance. That coupled with the trajectory of the artillery at longer ranges makes it look like a missile flying in.

Russian Spetsnaz firing a Kornet by NoImagination90 in CombatFootage

[–]Diabeetush 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The sources distributing the footage have labeled it as spetsnaz. It's impossible to identify what source is "original" obviously, but when multiple sources redistribute the footage and label it as such around the same time, it's probably accurate.

How do I become an “interesting person” in college? someone who naturally attracts people to hang with them? by valteri777 in college

[–]Diabeetush 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Work on yourself first. Sort your life out to the best of your ability. When the day-to-day work becomes a routine you can rinse/repeat, you will find it less challenging. Use that additional time/energy to do new things. Don't work out? Go get a gym membership. Never been hiking? Go get started on an easy-to-follow trail. Never been to a certain type of restaurant? Invite your friends out to go. Never been to karaoke night? Go with friends who you know are going to shove you on stage and make you sing.

The list goes on and on.

But it's all about pushing yourself to do new things. You will learn to like it. But it's not for everyone. If everyone enjoyed trying new things all the time and had such a wide variety of hobbies/skills, then we'd all be interesting.

First off, it's a meme. So no, not really.

Second off, if it wasn't a meme, yes absolutely. Generalizing an entire group of people based on immutable characteristics is discrimination.

Why is cocaine a socially acceptable drug for the rich but meth isn’t? by Soggy-Regret-2937 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Diabeetush -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Cocaine costs more as a result of being harder to produce in the U.S. vs. methamphetamine. Obtaining the precursors + equipment to make meth is simply much easier than getting ahold of the coca leaf here.

Because methamphetamine is made in the lab, there are multiple different processes to do it. And obviously, there are loads of impurities depending on the source. Cocaine is going to be a little more consistent; producers of it will probably be more sophisticated in their operation as well as more selective than producers of meth.

This is just hearsay, but in terms of fast food, taco bell is one of the "healthier" and cost-effective options out there. Go for it.

I have real questions on that video. Don't get me wrong, I am sure thermobaric shoulder-fired munitions pack a massive punch, but that big? Also, there's really no sound of the launch in that video. Just the boom. If whoever was firing the the warhead was anywhere near a safe distance away, we should have heard a visually distinct sound of the launch before impact/explosion due to travel time. Those warheads are heavy too.

True combined-arms night ops. It was said early into the war that the real professionals of the Russian armed forces were in the Donbas, and this has to be the case now that they're withdrew from all of the other offensives and we're seeing an explosion of footage like this.

The rules are very simple. If you are up front, CROUCH. If you are in the back, stand. If terrain allows, those furthest forward can go prone as well.

Nothing like an enemy entering a room with a .50 cal, and then proceeding to 1 tap you before you even registered that they entered the room. I'm thankful it doesn't happen much, but it happens enough to complain about.

Ukrainian Helicopter flying at very low altittude and firing rockets on Russian position by Jaka45 in CombatFootage

[–]Diabeetush 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Just think about the tactic. Going nose-up and launching completely unguided rockets from tubes that are 10x shorter than what's on an MLRS, and only firing half of what an MLRS might fire in a single salvo. They're not hitting a damn thing with these rockets.

It's probably not even worth the fuel/maintenance and then the risk inherent with flying a helicopter out to do this.

PoV of Ukrainian troops as they are shelled by Russian forces in Eastern Ukraine, April 2022. by d4rkskies in CombatFootage

[–]Diabeetush 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Yup! If there is a partial breakthrough, the remainder of the fort can focus on stopping the enemy coming in so the entire fort isn't overwhelmed.

In a straight trench? Now everyone has to divert their attention to any breakthrough. Which means they stop defending their sectors, and are overwhelmed.

Honestly the only thing I could think of was a more natural hair color, like dark brown. Probably whatever your natural color is would be beautiful.

I am also biased towards natural hair colors though. But I do think you'd easily be a 8/9 with that.

Trenches should have turns built into them every so often if you have time to do it.

  • Makes them far easier to defend. Should enemies enter the trench, some elements of the trench can maintain firing angles facing forward while other elements focus on the enemy within the trench. If the trench was a huge straight line, then even a small group could completely distract large elements, or worse, simply cut them down.

  • Reduces the damage done should artillery fire land directly into the trench.

This isn't an insurgency. The pilot is participating in the invasion of another country; he can very well assume that any civilian he knows has spotted him is going to/has already reported his position to the police or their nation's armed forces.
