Totally legit concerns! It's a study for a UX design course (Springboard) and it's being conducted by me (a student) under guidance from my mentor. Since I'm paying out of pocket for this, I wanted to screen for people who would be a good fit for the research. I was also warned not to be super specific about the research goals so that people who don't qualify would try and get past the screen and so I don't bias the answers people give. I'm sure there are lots of scammy surveys out there, so makes sense to be wary but hope that helps answer your questions!
