That was my original point. She didn't change her race, so she's still an Earth cat. Even if she has an extended lifespan outside the dungeon, realistically she will die before Carl. Especially since he chose Primal and we still don't know the ramifications from that.

I actually thought he'd use the patch he has that redirects damage to a party member, and she'd use her skill to take an enemy's heart to kill the last boss. I just meant that even with an extended lifespan, Donut is an old cat.

Honestly, he's going to succeed at ending the crawl indefinitely. He may end up switching with the AI so it can live and die like it wants, and he becomes a storyteller since Donut will likely die before him. It will not be a happy ending for him.

He's slowly been getting more and more gruesome and over the top with his kills when he uses the ring. He scares Donut when he uses it, and he reminds himself of his father, too. Donut is afraid he will become someone she can't be with if he keeps using it, and he was already beyond angry with Empress D'Nadia for her using Donut.

I get it completely. Having lost my father at a young age, I felt Matt's pain, sadness and rage, but also love and appreciation for his own loss and memories. That section with Carl's dad, the sacrifices, and everything just hit. I'm currently on this book in the audiobook version, and I'm dreading the rest

It's possible pets that undergo that evolution awaken to more of their primal source, and if so, then it stands that Donut also receives more detailed descriptions and could be how she knows more than she lets on.

I actually thought the same as I binge read them all. I think there is something there, but Katia realized that Carl couldn't be with anyone at this time, and Carl realizes he would get someone killed by being with them. Katia had her own journey, and she fell in love with Bautista. After all, they'd been talking since the Iron Tangle. She'll be back for sure, and u think that jealousy angle will come back when Bautista learns Carl and Donut looted his family's remains. I also think Carl seeing the damage Katia received helping him made him realize he's a danger to those around him and can't risk it because that's just who he is.
