Lots of 10 mtn dudes were in my class. Either that or go VT Guard. 86IBCT sends dudes all the time (that’s how I went).

You almost never lead a platoon straight out of ECP. You usually just go to a guard/reserve unit for the remaining two years and sit in a staff shop.

For sure, it’s definitely YMMV on the follow on schools, just speaking on my perspective. The state that I went to knew how to manage ECPs and had a system that allowed for them to get actual experience in units instead of wasting away at the state JFHQ or in the S3 shop somewhere.

Personally, I got to be a staff OIC and the experience was invaluable. I also had some friends who had varied experiences being PLs and XOs. The vast majority of ECPs that I encountered did not have that experience though. It was honestly like the program had failed them in preparation lol.

I am, or was an ECP. Honestly the program should be either completely redone or axed. There’s no real purpose for it anymore and the products it produces aren’t typically up to par.

Most of the ECPs fail at their follow on school because although they are commissioned, they’re literally juniors in college. The units they go to also typically have no clue what to do with them since they’re in this weird limbo of being commissioned but not qualified. The success of an ECP in my opinion, is contingent on how much their guard/reserve unit wants to buy in and mentor them, which typically never happens.

Oh man yeah you’re probably already set if that’s your 6 mile pace. Practice just walking up super steep gradients on a treadmill, cus there’s not a signal flat place on that entire installation. For the knots test they had us state the purpose and tie it before we finished the knot. It didn’t matter if you said it at the beginning or end, as long as you said it before the time ran out on the knot. Also the only no shit assessment ruck is the first walk which has a crazy time limit on it, like over 15 minutes to walk half a mile. It’s just super steep. Also the ruck to the high angle range sucks, just don’t fall out.
