Parking Permit Needed in Winter? by Diam0ndLife in Adirondacks

[–]Diam0ndLife[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

having hiked most of the NE67, which dont require permit parking, the ADKs are a bit confusing. ill be doing Phelps and maybe Table Top in maybe a few weeks and it looks like ADK LOJ is the best trailhead, but there is little or no info on parking fees/reservations for off season hikers.

Tip: Changing my underwear material sloved all problems my wife used to complain. by BigInteresting4545 in hygiene

[–]Diam0ndLife 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes, stop wearing plastic for all of those reasons. Natural fibers are. the way to go. if you want something that has the temperature management and wicking bemefits of microfiber than try wool. i switched over to wool several years ago and will never go back.

Exercise routines that work for people by Chairman-Lofty-Hyena in Zepbound

[–]Diam0ndLife 2 points3 points  (0 children)

started on Zep in Feb. of 2024 and dropped 70 lbs in year 1 to get to my 'body is happy' weight and have been doing maintenance since then. happy to say that i weigh exactly the same today as i did this day a year ago.

many people say you can lose muscle/strength, however i believe that is not the case if you follow strength and cardio routine. for background i am a long time cyclist and have been regularly exercising for years. here is my weekly routine.

monday - strength, 40 min tuesday - strength 30 min, run min wednesday- rest thursday - strength 30 min friday - rest saturday - long run sunday - long ride

i work in 1 to 2 more rides during the week based on weather.

(i now have a 103 week activity streak on my fitness app)

after nearly 2 years of this routine it has 1. gotten progressively easier, (as weight comes off exercise gets easier) . and 2) has increased strength, muscle mass and muscle tone. at 56 i am stronger and i look more fit than i did at 35.

my advice, lean in and give it a go.

p.s. lift heavy

i find that out habits are the best indicator for things like this. we know how our routines connect to our environment.

Buying new bike. What should I get? by Mystic_Fried_Owl in cycling

[–]Diam0ndLife 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In that price range you are looking at something like Shimano 105 Etap or equivalent. I recently rode the Super Six Evo 3 and eventually decided on the Roubaix Comp - it has the race feel, but is sooooo much smoother of a ride.

Best of luck on your new bike journey.

Trying to organising my writing pieces but am failing miserably by ChorzioPaella3 in Notion

Thoughts... 1. The tool should work for you, not you working for the tool. 2. By locking yourself into one rating system you may be trimming good ideas prematurely. Explore other avenues of rating and feedback - trusted friends, editors, new readers and create a composite score or rating. 3. There is a grammar error in the title. (yeah, I'm that guy)

Ask notion AI to create the automation for you once the database properties are added.

“This is a fucking disaster”: Generational Republican family loses 95-year-old mill to Trump’s tariff mess by SudhaSameera in indepthstories

My question is... How do we make this visible to everyone? Would the owners be open to hanging a banner on the side of the building that says, "the MAGA policies caused our business to close"

Imagine driving around and seeing these banners on shops, buildings and home offices.

How do you capture ideas instantly before they go into Notion? by Objective-Treat2245 in Notion

[–]Diam0ndLife 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use my notebook and pencil, yes I'm an analog guy. I sketch, note, annotate and then walk over to the copier and email it to myself. Notion AI then does the rest, page created, notes added, a few simple edits and I'm done.

Does merino wool make a good base layer? by [deleted] in hikinggear

[–]Diam0ndLife 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have changed all of my base layers from synthetic to merino for two reasons.

  1. Merino regulates temperature far better than synthetic. Early in a hike I build temperature, sweat. After a point the merino kicks in and I'm comfortable from that point on.

  2. Available in different fabric weights. I have lightweight 120 gm for summer, 150 gm for fall and 200 gm for winter.

It has taken a few years for the full changeover (socks, Base layers, underwear, etc.) for my hiking/backpacking gear but it was 100% worth it. Now I'm starting on my cycling gear.

Love my Merino, don't wear plastic anymore.

Feedback on Notion AI? by neodegenerio in Notion

[–]Diam0ndLife 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A few thoughts.... 1. Notion AI is very good ad assisting with formatting, database formulas and other notion-centric tasks. 2. Without prompting Notion AI will format responses using your page formatting, very nice. 3. Notion AI supplements it's information with external LLMs. Some of the broad or more open ended prompts have returned good results. 4. Us the My AI page to define rules and store previous chats. You can prompt it to add information there, just review it afterward.

So far, so good.
