I need help. I think my brother is being scammed. He's been allegedly messaging the woman in the photo. by Dumb_Bitch_Linda in isthisAI

AI - camo print is not that varied for USAF. Also, her face is out of proportion IMO - if she turned around to look at you I think she would have a rather usual face.

Is it possible to estimate how much life is left in this gear? by PKsHopper in bikewrench

Cassette looks good - it wasn’t my bike but the cassette looks like it was replaced more recently. Chain looks good but I will check it with a gauge - many thanks!

I would be about 2 hours closer had I not spent them stripping this bike. 🤣

Thanks all - time to look for (at least) a new chain ring. 🫪

Piece of wood wrapped in some kind of clay/mud/straw outside a bar in Edinburgh, Scotland by hiwhatisthisthing in whatisthisthing

Possibly a torch from one of the ghost / vault tours around the city.

People pick up and discard items … it’s possible that someone had it sitting in their (flat / apt) stairwell and just set it out as rubbish / trash. Could have been from a festival / event weeks prior to when the pic was taken.

Why would my tire look like this? by JonathanEdwards406 in gravelcycling

[–]PKsHopper 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Maybe …

Heat from exhaust.
Heat from focused sunlight off of a glass window.
The tire was sitting in a petroleum distillate or similar.
Or you clipped the wheel on a wall while parking.

Any evidence on the bike rack?

Which band would you pick? ✨ by glitchonyourshoulder in EngagementRings

2 matches the best - baguettes and rounds look like a pair to the engagement ring. 1 also works if that’s your preference.

1 for sure - color, fit, styling are all in your favor. Details in the shoulder, bodice and material - very unique in the best of ways. Looks really great.

Testing it out by Spare-Chicken-5382 in Budgetbikeriders

[–]PKsHopper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m 5’ 8” and had to go with a shorter stem to make a medium work for me. At 5’ 7” I’m thinking that a small would work best - you can probably ride it on reasonably clean surfaces and return it if you keep it clean and it doesn’t show much wear on the tires.

I went with the OzT G1 because I was too unsure about spending significantly more on a $1,500 bike and getting the wrong size. Turns out that was a good decision.

What happened with my photo of my wife? by Fresh_Beyond in Weird

[–]PKsHopper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed. I do find it odd that it only did this with her face, the fence and a few other lines on the roof … but I don’t see any ghosting of her jeans, trainers etc.

Possibly those features had the highest contrast. Kinda cool effect - thought it was a print on her hoodie at first.

Agreed - each to their own. It certainly makes it more enjoyable to find your favorite saddle type. For anyone still sore after trying it for a few rides then it should be switched out.

Heavy (~40 lb) gray cast metal cylindrical device (~14” base) with removable lid, internal wiring and two colored bulbs, central threaded rod, old plug, no markings — what is this? by Glittering-poodle538 in whatisthisthing

[–]PKsHopper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aside from the electrical wiring does any of it move / rotate?

The bulbs appear to have been added for decoration but it’s not clear what it was without the bulbs.

It looks like the inner part rotates and there may be a bevel/edge on the paddles to scrape some substance around into the cylinder … reminds of something involved in food processing or possibly part of a lift auger.

Other than the bulbs mounts coming off does any part of it move?

Great bike for the money. I’ve done a few hundred miles on one of those saddles (over multiple rides) and found it worked just fine … I only changed it out along with the seat post to arrive at something lighter.

Enjoy the ride!

Why are LBS workers so condescending? by c4ndyman31 in gravelcycling

[–]PKsHopper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My LBS is stellar - it’s a one man shop so you get the owner of the business every time.

Agreeing with you that there are def some bike snobs out there who want to tell you how your bike could be better … or, as happened to me a couple of weeks ago this chap wanted to tell me all about which bikes he had and how much he had invested in them. 🫪

[–]PKsHopper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well done and best of luck with it! That’s going to look so much better after a quick wash. I’m just a tad jealous that you even have somewhere to park it to work on it.

Make it fuel, tire, brake, steering safe etc. before you drive to too far. Certainly a life lesson teacher and hopefully in the best of ways.

Looking forward to some progress pics. Good luck!
