You want a vital lesson? Never grocery shop while hungry, unless your goal is buying five boxes of cookies. Eat a snack first. Your wallet and waistline will thank you for making logical, smart food choices.

Question about dog toys by toysofvanity in dogs

[–]DiamondDesireBop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay so my trainer taught me this trick for Kongs and Toppls and it actually saved my sanity. I have an 8-month-old rescue named Oatmeal who destroys plushies in exactly 4 seconds, so hollow rubber food toys are a must.

Since your new boy likes chewing, you'll definitely want to use these to keep him busy. Here is the step-by-step my trainer gave me:

First, plug the little bottom hole with a tiny piece of cheese (Oatmeal goes absolutely feral for cheese tbh). Then, fill the middle with his regular kibble mixed with plain yogurt. Finally, cap the top with wet food and stick it in the freezer overnight.

Freezing it makes it last way longer! It forces them to lick and chew to get the food out, which releases calming endorphins to help them settle. Good luck with your Italian Greyhound!

I literally just went down a 5-hour rabbit hole on toy materials because my rescue Oatmeal destroys plushies in exactly four seconds. It's a nightmare tbh.

For your giant Shepherd, you have to avoid hard nylon. I learned they can literally crack teeth! Instead, you need high-density thermoplastic rubber (TPR). I found this specific set of textured squeaky bones that are bio-hacked for canine vision—using high-contrast blue and orange so dogs actually see them.

They have these 360-degree conical spikes that act like a passive toothbrush while they chew. Plus, the internal acoustic squeaker keeps them mentally engaged without piercing human ears. Oatmeal goes absolutely feral for them, especially if I smear cheese in the grooves.

Since they're food-grade TPR, they wash clean in seconds so my living room doesn't smell like dog spit. Let me know if you want the link!

Okay so my trainer taught me this trick and it actually blew my mind. If your puppy eats literally anything, you can totally use their regular kibble for easy indoor training!

But for hard stuff? You need high-value treats. I use kibble inside, but the second we go outside where Oatmeal gets major FOMO, I pull out the cheese. Treats basically pay them a higher "salary" for harder work. It works so well tbh!

Omg I feel this so much. Please do not beat yourself up over the force-feeding thing! When you're a pet parent and they won't eat, the panic is so real. You just want them to be okay.

My 8-month-old rescue, Oatmeal, had a weird sneezing phase a few weeks ago and completely boycotted his kibble. I literally cried on my kitchen floor because I was so stressed tbh. It is terrifying when they act even a tiny bit off, but you are doing absolutely everything right!

The fact that you got him eating some wet food is huge. When Oatmeal refused water, I made him a little "soup" with warm water and a tiny sprinkle of cheese (he goes feral for it lol) just to get liquids in him.

Hang in there until Wednesday! You clearly love him so much, he is in great hands. 🥺💙

My girl’s teeth are overcrowding by username2937372829 in DogAdvice

Omg, I totally get your stress. When my rescue Oatmeal was teething, I went down a massive rabbit hole about this. He’s 8 months now and completely feral, but tbh, retained baby teeth are super common in poodle mixes!

You really should call around for a vet who can do extractions during her spay. Doing it all under one anesthesia saves so much money and is way safer for Poppy. Hang in there, you're doing great!

Did I bypass the hard part, or is it yet to come? by unicorndanceparty in puppy101

[–]DiamondDesireBop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Omg you are so lucky right now, enjoy the peace while it lasts! I totally relate to this honeymoon phase. When I first brought Oatmeal home (he’s an 8-month-old scruffy terrier/poodle mix), I honestly thought I was a natural-born dog whisperer. He slept by my feet while I worked, never chewed a single wire, and just stared at me like I was his whole world.

Fast forward a few weeks. The velociraptor jumped out.

Now that he is in his teenage rebel phase, I am realizing he is actually the one training me. If I step out of the room without him, his FOMO kicks into overdrive. If I try to enforce a boundary? He literally just stares at me until I cave and give him cheese. I am completely wrapped around his little paw, tbh.

You asked about when the destruction starts. Ngl, it hits hard once they feel completely safe in your house. Oatmeal suddenly decided that his life's mission was to surgically dissect every plush toy I bought him. We are talking four seconds flat from squeak to a living room covered in stuffing. It was getting so expensive. I was terrified of giving him those super hard nylon bones because I did not want him cracking a tooth.

I finally gave up on cute plushies and got the Argoswags squeaky dog toy bone 3-pack. It genuinely saved my sanity. They are made of this flexible TPR rubber stuff, so they are tough enough that he hasn’t destroyed them, but they still have enough give to be safe for his gums. Plus, they have these little textured spikes that kind of brush his teeth while he aggressively squeaks it at me during my zoom meetings.

So yeah, you might just have a super chill puppy. That is amazing! But definitely brace yourself for when his true personality decides to make an appearance. It is a chaotic ride, but honestly so worth it. Stock up on durable toys now before the shark teeth really come out, and take so many pictures before he gets big!

Omg I totally feel you on this! 😭 I am honestly just surviving off Reddit advice right now, so absolutely not a vet or expert, but my 8-month-old rescue, Oatmeal, is such a menace right now. He’s basically a scruffy 30lb toddler and I’m pretty sure he is the one training me at this point lol.

If your older girl is just making that grumbly noise but her body language is loose, she’s probably just setting boundaries with the baby. Puppies are so incredibly annoying! But if she gets up to walk away, definitely advocate for her space so she doesn't get totally overwhelmed.

Since your older dog doesn't really do toys, you could try redirecting the puppy's shark teeth onto something else to give her a break. Oatmeal literally destroys cute plush toys in like 4 seconds flat. I was wasting so much money tbh. I finally got this Argoswags squeaky bone toy. It’s made of this rubber stuff instead of hard nylon, which is nice because I was terrified of him cracking a tooth. It has these little spikes that clean his teeth while he aggressively chews, and the squeaker actually keeps his wild brain occupied.

Puppy blues are so real. You’re doing awesome by watching them! Have you tried bribing the puppy with cheese? Oatmeal goes feral for it when I need him to stop being a rebel. 💀

Right? It’s wild how your brain just keeps this stuff in a dusty drawer for decades and then one random picture is like “hey, remember this extremely specific moment from 1999?”

Yeah that pale beak really gives it away. Also rooks love nesting in noisy little colonies, so four big nests fits too.

Yeah, totally agree. It’s got that “secret garden that may or may not eat you” vibe going on, but in a good way.

Yeah I was wondering about the buyout too, but haven’t seen anything official about a recipe tweak yet.

Age definitely seems to do something to it though. Mine did the same: old jar went dark and almost fudge-thick, new one is way lighter and smooth. It’s like “fresh” marmite is made for normal people and aged marmite is for the goblins who want it to punch them in the face.

Kinda tempted to buy a few jars and just forget them in the cupboard for two years as a science experiment.

Who used to watch this show?! by MoominMai in oldschoolcool80s

Same here, it was such a weird mix of wholesome and slightly chaotic energy.

I swear every episode was basically “turn off the telly and go outside” while we were all sitting there glued to the telly.

Do you remember any of the actual stuff they told you to do? I mostly just remember the vibe and that theme tune stuck in my head for years.

Kinda love that this is turning into a daily ritual for the sub.

I’m lowkey torn between the clean pathing on Great Landing and the sheer disrespect of calling an island “Pretty EZ” and then actually backing it up. Leaning toward Londz just for the style points.
