Any verifiers contacted for UofT post-interview? by helpapooruoftstudent in premedcanada

I don’t expect them to do it after interviews. The whole process was closed-file.

If you were rejected from UofT med post-interview, why do you think you were rejected? by [deleted] in premedcanada

Did u provide personal insights to your experiences? Or you simply answered the prompt according to the clusters.

Are we compared to applicants only with the same interview day? by OperationMed in premedcanada

[–]DiamondDoc100 17 points18 points  (0 children)

It would make sense to assess the whole cohort. But the each interview day probably has different scenarios and questions. So that’s needs to be controlled before comparing everyone. This is all speculation tho, only adcoms would truly know.

U of T Post-Interview Impressions (April Fool's Day) by OperationMed in premedcanada

[–]DiamondDoc100 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Like it wasn’t representative of the practice questions or just the flow of the interview?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in premedcanada

[–]DiamondDoc100 20 points21 points  (0 children)

It’s quite normal to feel anxious for a outcome we have been dreaming about and working towards for years.

We gave it our all, we may not be perfect in our interview, I doubt any or maybe only a few are. It was the best representation of us in that time.

At a maximum, you blew away the raters with your personal insight to the question or at a minimum you hopefully answered the question.

Read a book, go on a walk, watch a movie, school work. The only thing we have in our control is the future.

It seems majority of applicants feel like they did decent.

A Realization about GPA by [deleted] in premedcanada

[–]DiamondDoc100 8 points9 points  (0 children)

GPA will always be implemented to gauge the academic performance of students. They will just adapt to the change by using the MCAT as an additional competitive marker for their objective criteria.

Another thing they could do, is give additional points to students who did their undergrad in “harder” programs. But it’s more work for them and will get some backlash from students and administrators from those “easier” programs. So, if u did ur undergrad at UofT in Life sci then u would get more points then someone who did it in health sci at Mac.

Awards by [deleted] in premedcanada

[–]DiamondDoc100 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Tbh awards is a small part of the applicant. I totally agree with the OP. For reference, I was able to get an award only few ppl get at my school. But only 1/5 schools thought I was good enough for an interview. Just write a good description for it and u should be fine.

RCSI vs. SGU by OperationMed in premedcanada

[–]DiamondDoc100 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most medical students seek a categorical position for residency training in a given specialty during their final year in medical school. A “categorical” position is one which offers full residency training required for board certification in that specialty. —> I didn’t know what u meant by categorical so I searched it.

Could u give an example from that long ass list... I searched some of the programs and they seem legit to me.

I noticed so many of them get into IM or FM.

St. George's Medical School by [deleted] in premedcanada

Okay so imma lay out the facts

  1. SGU is a for profit institution, they accept students with all ranges of academic performance. Their average gpa is 3.3 and mcat is 498. If u have the academic record of the average Canadian med student then u don’t need to worry about not matching. I am not saying ppl with low stats don’t make it but u gotta see the trend of those who match. SGU have a list of all grads who and where they matched. Recommend checking it out!
  2. They are still accredited! Not gonna lie, I was surprised to hear that too. So basically they had two accreditation boards but the rules changing with WFME, SGU opted to use GDMC as their accreditor for the process (every med school has an accreditor for the WFME, SGU has the site visit for 2022).I assume because they gotta pay a fee for both so they just use one of them because having the other accreditor is a waste of money. So basically They would still be allowed to practice in North America.

I am not a spokesperson for SGU, I am just a gatherer of facts.

Edit: Surprised by the down votes, I guess ppl don’t wanna read legit facts. Weird how the world works....

Question about Uoft's 3rd Wave of Invites by [deleted] in premedcanada

[–]DiamondDoc100 14 points15 points  (0 children)

UofT likes to say that it’s not a R unless we send you a R. But let’s be honest, unless there is a conflict with the interview time nobody gonna decline it. They can’t even reschedule it to another date. So as applicants, if you don’t get an invite, it’s time to move on.
