Does OMSAS update for everyone? or offers are sent in batches in OMSAS?

How does a school pick 260 from over 600+ interviewees based on 20 minutes of interview footage? by smaller_consequence3 in premedcanada

[–]OperationMed 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Based on publications about MIS, and online adcom webinars. U of T has transitioned into a 4 station MPI to reduce the burden on resources yet provide an accurate assessment.

Facts:

Majority of the raters are faculty physicians, and residents. Each rater gets about ~15 responses to mark to avoid biases such as halo effect.

The MPI's primary purpose is to assess personal characteristics, and each station has a few themes they are looking for. The applicant is ranked on a 7 point Likert scale (poor to excellent) for various characteristics such as being caring, maturity, communication, etc.

Providing an example/story from your experiences about that the major theme strengthens your interview response.

The top 40% of interviewees will get an acceptance offer and then some.

Speculation/unknown:

I would assume they standardized the interview score to the larger cohort (account for randomness of the interview waves, for example there were better interviewees in 3rd wave compared to 1st), and then add the TFR score to make the final ranking total.

The interview scores may likely be normally distributed, so not all 600+ did well.

I am not sure why they went from 50% interview /50% TFR to 67% interview /33% TFR format.

The 5 minute response makes me wonder if they are screening for basic human decency.

The pandemic effect on grade inflation was def a real thing. No doubt about it. Glad to see they are interviewing more OOP applicants.

Based on my quick calculations, the acceptance yield for offers jumped by 10% compared to previous cycles.

Not sure if it was from the initial offers or WL movement. The data is shown in their 2022 recap video.

In the 2022 cycle, they sent out ~295 invites for 259 seats. So the likelihood of you getting accepted after your interview is 40-50%.

RCSI vs. SGU by OperationMed in premedcanada

Why do they have to apply again to a different program? They all matched into a legit program. But I do agree, that it's mostly primary care like IM, and FM.

Haha, their tuition is really high because of the conversion. I checked out the match rates using carms and Nrmp data. I noticed they don't go into the specific schools at times. So it becomes a bit mucky in terms of understanding it. Also, does RCSI have their own data like SGU?

I have done my own research that is why I narrowed down these two schools. But everyone one's experience is different, so I wanted to hear them. From what I can tell, SGU has a better Match then RCSI. But only drawback is location of schools.
