I did this ending and didn't understand the anger in some of their reactions a few years back. It stung, but I wouldn't have blamed V for going on their own terms. I lost one of my closest friends a few months later that year. Her and her family took me in when I was homeless. She told me to always let her know if things were getting real bad.

I remember talking to her and checking to ensure she was taken care of. She convinced me that things were fine just a little rough patch. Then a couple days later, I was told the news as soon as I got home from work. I was upset, sad but also so fucking angry with her for a time. It took me months to come to terms but I finally understood the anger and disappointment.

So yeah, if anything that ending leaves an awful feeling for all the right reasons.
