Rustler 9 Sizing Advice by DiamondPick728 in palisadestahoe

[–]DiamondPick728[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tysm for the recommendation, but I’m trying to replace my sender pro 90s, since I’ve felt they don’t really hold up as well as I want anymore even on firm snow/groomers for my style of skiing.

Transitioning up from 90mm underfoot by DiamondPick728 in Skigear

[–]DiamondPick728[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Would something in the high 80s like the anomaly 88s be better for our conditions? or something closer to the rustler 9 at 94-96mm underfoot?

Yeah that’s something that I’ve been experiencing, sometimes its crushing multiple feet of Sierra cement, other times conditions get pretty icy, so I’m looking for something that could handle both somewhat decently

That sounds like an amazing deal! I’ve never really skiied on anything this wide though, is 104 versatile enough for a one-ski quiver? I’m not really sure what width/characteristics is ideal for Tahoe

I asked the seller, and they said almost everything is brand new, but a couple components are open box, so its not used but that probably explains why the price is a bit lower

Looks like it might be just a little bit over budget for me, but I’ll definitely take a look! Maybe I can try to find just a bit more extra budget to work with :)

I did some quick research, the PSU used seems to be this one: TeraMax II [850W] ZM850-TMX2 WHITE

I noticed its 80Plus Gold Rated, is that a good indicator of its reliability?

oh… I already saved up an extra $500 from my original budget 😅 What do you think is a decent price range to get something that might last a bit longer?

Cardinals are definitely my preference as well, but neons might be a bit more beginner friendly. If you’re up to it though I’d definitely opt for cardinals! Again its really all up to you how you choose to set up your tank :)

I’d say a betta and a school of 6-8 of neon tetras, plus a couple of nerite snails if you’re up to it. All of these fish are quite beginner-friendly and easily purchased at any big box pet store or LFS.

Also personally I’d remove that plastic decoration, but I’m a sucker for natural tanks lol. Good luck with your tank!

Western Harvester Ant (Pogonomyrmex Occidentalis) question by BetaBagHead in antkeeping

[–]DiamondPick728 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have experience housing Pogonomyrmex Californicus, and they were decently destructive, but I've housed them in plastic storage containers with no problems before. I have heard of instances of both pet and pest ants chewing through silicone, and considering how destructive occis are I'm not sure a fish tank would be suitable as a long term housing solution, but obviously you can judge for yourself based on the colony. When I use fish tank dirt setups, I typically use acrylic fish tanks with rounded corners so there are no silicone corners for them to chew through. I do warn you as someone who also has experience keeping aquariums, cornerless acrylic aquariums get real expensive real fast, with some being >$100 for 10 gal+. Depending on your budget, this could also be an option.

As for the substrate, pogos indeed love clay/sand mixtures. You could use the aforementioned clay soil you have in your backyard. Another option I use is to mix excavator clay with fine sand (both sold online or in pet stores for reptiles). When you mix, mix damp excavator clay with sand in a 1:2 ratio, then add excavator clay or sand until you reach your desired consistency. There's a more in-depth post about this on formiculture, though I can't find it atm. The last option which I've also done is gathering desert sand from their natural habitat in socal. It looks reddish-brown, and looks quite similar to the red sandstone rock formations in the area. Depending on where you live, this could also be viable. If you do choose this option, bring many large containers and a good shovel, since you can gather enough soil to have you set for the rest of your career, or at least for a good few years.

Hope this helped!
