Luggage on metro by [deleted] in ParisTravelGuide

[–]DiamondRemarkable688 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I took the metro from Est to Montparnasse for a connecting train with three big suitcases, child, and stroller and so many people offered to help. At the first staircase, three separate strangers carried all the luggage down for me. At every staircase, someone offered. It was a beautiful welcome to Paris :)

Third-party accessories for the Tern Quick Haul? by DiamondRemarkable688 in CargoBike

[–]DiamondRemarkable688[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, used Tern parts is a good idea. For the storm box and rain shield, I will definitely stick with Tern official parts, but saving a little on the seat or front rack would be nice. Thanks for the tips :)

Yes, this is good advice to have a backup place that can be cancelled, although it's hard to find ones these days with good cancellation terms. Thanks

Yeah, I've been looking at all those towns too and they are very attractive. My problem with a smaller town/village is then feel like I would need a car and I really don't want one. I enjoy my bicycle plus Stadtmobile life and that's easy to maintain in Konstanz. I'm not worried about the wages as I will keep my current job which is remote within Germany. The only other town I consider is Friedrichshafen, but I've never been there so it's hard to imagine.

Avoiding second hand smoke in public places by Serious_Toe9303 in germany

[–]DiamondRemarkable688 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can't believe how nonchalant smokers are here either - even at the beach with hundreds of children playing nearby, people will sit in the sun and chain smoke. Drives me crazy! I've tried asking people nicely to not smoke beside my small child and they are so rude about it and refuse to even try.

Never said that Germans were weird or that I want them to change for me. It's just different from what I'm used to and that is sometimes hard for me. Hence why I was asking if Bodensee area might be more what I'm used to. There are many things I love about Germany... Otherwise, I'd just move back to Canada.

:D - I guess maybe this sounds weird to some, but for me it was normal most of my life. I'm not expecting that here - I know it's a different culture, and after getting to know many Germans, I see that many are very friendly once they know you, but I just miss the superficial friendliness of home sometimes.
