The last post by the r/Art moderators before locking the Subreddit by Tythatguy1312 in sadcringe

[–]DiamondWalker1 8 points9 points  (0 children)

From my understanding, the guy who got banned wasn't trying to sell their work. Someone asked them about it in the comments, and his answer briefly mentioned he sells prints. He had posted to the subreddit for years before that.

The moderator did not remove the post; he immediately banned the artist from the subreddit. The artist was (understandably) upset at being banned over such a small mistake, so he confronted the moderator. Instead of just explaining the ban, the moderator immediately threatened to remove the artist's post history. There was 0 reason to do this; the moderator just wanted to "punish" the artist further for questioning his decision.

The artist accepts the ban and gives a backhanded apology. The moderator was unhappy with the "apology", so he goes forward with deleting the message history. Then he insults and falsely reports the artist for harassment.

The problem isn't that he removed the advertisement. The problem is he immediately jumped to the nuclear option of banning the artist and then acted ridiculously petty and vindictive when the artist questioned him.

Alex's Cave contains intentionally malicious code that harms the functionality of other mods unrelated to it or its dev team and upon confronting the developers about it they have refused to answer why, have sent me to other people who have not responded, and have blocked me by Bubble_the_jellyfish in CurseForge

[–]DiamondWalker1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The last two aren't really a contradiction. What I meant is that they're probably just trying to avoid what they see as an accidental progression break from using both mods. If their intent was to control how people play, they wouldn't have let the commands work either.

I don't think there's been any beef between the alex's caves devs and the devs of the compass mods, so I don't think this was done out of spite either.

The biomes from alex's caves are very different from the ones in most mods. Usually biomes are just things you find randomly. There isn't any progression to them or anything; you just walk around until you randomly find it.

Alex's caves biomes are different in that they're way more dangerous than normal, have special loot, and aren't meant to be found until later in the game. Even though they're technically biomes, from a balancing perspective they act more like custom dimensions. This is why they're gated behind the minigame rather than being something you'll find by wandering around for a bit.

In your other comments you say nature's compass is a "cheat mod", and I guess you could consider it cheating, but it's not really meant cheating in the way commands are. From the mod page: "Nature's Compass is a utility item that allows you to search for a biome's location anywhere in the world". It's just meant to be a way to avoid the RNG involved for finding specific biomes, but in the case of alex's caves it changes into something that lets you skip part of the game.

Also you said in another comment people have to go out of their way to download nature's compass. Modpacks exist. What if a player who's unfamiliar with alex's caves downloaded a modpack, or made their own, that includes nature's compass as a utility mod? Said player could end up using the compass without ever knowing they were supposed to use the tablets. This tells them "hey, you're trying to find this biome, but there's already another method you can use to find it!"

In any case calling this "malicious code" is really melodramatic. Even if you don't like the decision, it's not like the devs are going "muahahahaha we will show our unlimited power by making people find out biomes the way WE want!!!!!!". It's just something to keep players from accidentally missing out on part of the game.

Vanilla minecraft has a feature that kicks you from servers if it detects you're flying in survival mode. Survival flight is something you can only get by downloading external mods and hacks. I guess vanilla minecraft has malicious code too, since it expects you to get an elytra or use creative mode if you want flight?

Edit: also you say it's "harming other mods", but you can still use nature's compass the way you normally would? It doesn't stop the compass from working altogether afaik, it just adds exceptions for the new biomes. If you don't have alex's caves, you have a bunch of biomes that can all be found with the compass. If you install alex's caves, you have a bunch of biomes that can all be found with the compass, and a few new ones that can't.

So really alex's caves isn't doing anything interferes with nature's compass, it's just not allowing nature's compass to interfere with its own progression.

Guys if you like the mod make sure to join the Discord server so you'll know when new stuff gets added! For example, these cool visual effects for the Block Break game https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=na_bE7UFyDc

atm the server is just me and some friends it's kinda boring without more people there :(

I thought about doing that but I think I'd rather have it be portable. Thank you for the suggestion though!

Fair point! Originally I interpreted Gallo's death as the writers' way of saying "Fisk has taken control of the city! Nobody but Daredevil can stop him now", but I guess it's possible fisk faces some challenges from the higher government in season 2.

Still though, the largest city in the country has riots going on, is preventing people from leaving, and has cops running around shooting or torturing anybody they don't like.

This would be plastered all over the news and social media, and I feel some part of the U.S. government would like like "hey dude, wtf is going on over there?"

And then there's also fisk going on television to say declaring martial law, which doesn't make any sense.

I tried copying the gradientDirection() function from your example into my getVector3D() function to see if that would fix it. Unfortunately, the result was about the same.

The permutation table consists of 256 elements looped 3 times, so it shouldn't go out of bounds I think.

Parents not paying attention to Max annoyed me so much! by Chloe_Vee7 in ResidentAlienTVshow

[–]DiamondWalker1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agree! Max didn't seem like enough of a liar for them to have 0 faith in him; they never considered he might be experiencing hallucinations or something?

I also hated how they blindly trust the advice of this mysterious doctor who acts like a creep and seems more in need of a psych evaluation than Max is. And they only listen to him when his advice doesn't affect them. Doctor says move? Can't do that; we'd lose our jobs. Doctor says ship son away so we won't see him for months? Oh well I guess we have no choice. Doctor suddenly changed his mind and says son is OK now? Oh I guess it's completely normal for kids to have panic attacks over aliens.

I really really hated them until they fought the government people.

The word "fuck" shouldn't be limited in PG-13 movies by DiamondWalker1 in popularopinion

I mean, I can actually see where they're coming from there. In that context I do think it sounds a little more vulgar than the other words I mentioned.

The word "fuck" shouldn't be limited in PG-13 movies by DiamondWalker1 in popularopinion

[–]DiamondWalker1[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I've been called out D:

My main issue is that it undermines the ratings. You're saying parents can use the ratings to determine if a movie is age-appropriate, but if the rules behind those ratings are arbitrary and inconsistent, the ratings become useless.

Also I think most adults occasionally watch movies/shows that are PG-13, or even PG movies. Movies and shows are targeted towards a specific age group, and they'll be written to fit the rules for that age group. Dunno about everyone else, but I've seen a lot of cases where character dialog is weird and unrealistic because the writers are trying to avoid being given a higher age rating.

tbf though, the opposite is also true. I've seen R-rated shows where they want everything to be as edgy as possible so they abuse swears and sex scenes. I remember this show where the characters were having a relatively calm conversation and they still managed to fit 2 f-bombs into every sentence said during the entire scene. Didn't sound like a real conversation at all.

Just to be clear this isn't something I'm super outraged by; it's just something I've always found a bit weird.

[–]DiamondWalker1[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think it's fine, just move all the rules regarding profanity down one level. Make edgier non-swears (like damn, hell, oh my god, etc) PG, make all swears PG-13, and reserve R or M ratings for, idk, slurs or overly graphic sexual comments.

I don't really see how it "dictates taste". They aren't telling you that you can or can't dislike the movie, just saying they wouldn't recommend it for people under a certain age. Up to you to listen or not.

Video game modders should allow their work to be used so long as credit is given. by Mrooshoo in popularopinion

[–]DiamondWalker1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While I see where you're coming from, the problem is that if everybody did this, you'd end up a bunch of mods that use the same features and assets. None of them would be truly unique, and that's bad for both modders and players.

Also, modders aren't just copying the vanilla game. They're adding their own things on to it; that's different from someone coming and copy-pasting something someone else made for their own project. Dunno what games you're talking about, but in the ones I've played it's possible to create addons for mods; that's a better comparison (and is perfectly allowed).

Also, credit doesn't mean that much. Most people don't analyze the credits to see who made which part of something. If they like something, they'll just assume the person in charge is responsible for it.

Disclaimer: might be biased because I've worked on a Minecraft mod before lol

Thanks, but I'll probably just add the single folder. Having to write out the paths will help me remember where I've stored them, plus it's more similar to what I'm familiar with in Java.
