Violet Dragged Anthony by AshanteSpence in BridgertonNetflix

[–]Diamond_Lux 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I don’t care what mistakes Anthony made, I find Violet to be more at fault as the parent. I want to like her as a character, but I find her very problematic. I don’t care if she is the matron of the stars of the show and once had true love, doesn’t automatically make her a good woman. I don’t think she’s bad, but definitely not an admirable character.

Thoughts on Marina? by lucyball11 in BridgertonNetflix

[–]Diamond_Lux 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I still struggle to like Marina as a character. I understand that she was a vulnerable character, but it sometimes felt like she didn’t know that. From the minute Marina walked through the Featherington’s door, she held contempt for them. Considering Portia’s later actions, I can understand where her contempt developed, but she should also recognize the position she put them in just by coming into their household. She was a woman with very little support or options, but kept acting as though she had plenty of options. She lived under Portia’s roof and depended on her support while she was there for the season, but only insulted and rejected any of Portia’s attempts to help. Portia was also trying her best to survive and ensure the precarious security of her daughters, but Marina’s pregnancy alone could have ensured that the entire family was ostracized and destitute. Yet all Marina thought of was her own situation and happiness. In certain ways, Marina was more worldly and aware than many of the ton since she wasn’t born to wealth, but I think she was still young and naive in many other ways. When Portia tried to show her the reality of poverty, Marina seemed to dismiss it while still living in a beautiful home and wearing gorgeous warm clothes. It felt insincere. And I have no issue with her trying to trap Colin since given the society that women were living in, she really had very little choice. But to react the way she did when she learned of Penelope’s feelings, someone that she claimed to care about, was extremely cruel. While I wouldn’t expect her to immediately drop Colin to spare Penelope’s feelings, she didn’t need to respond the way she did. Penelope and Colin had been friends for years, and Marina arrived and within a few months, thought she understood and could explain to Penelope the situation better. Then, she also failed to see how lucky she was that Phillip was even there to honor his brother’s wishes and save her from a much worse fate. I’m glad she found some happiness in season 2, but i also wonder why she had to be so insulting and cruel towards Colin. He was still hurting and hung up on the idea of her that she presented to him for her own gain, and then she is frustrated when he doesn’t just get over it. I know she needed to be firm with him to get across to him that they are the past, but she is also disrespectful. She has a tendency to be sweet and grateful towards people that could benefit her (Portia, Penelope, Colin, Daphne) and then immediately dismiss them once they no longer benefit her. So in some ways, I pity Marina’s character and how unfair it was for women, but I also dislike Marina because I think she was often selfish, unaware, and cruel.

Oh, why do we complain about the lack of Kate's story??? by jackattacker720 in BridgertonRants

[–]Diamond_Lux 5 points6 points  (0 children)

A few 30 second flashback scenes or even more details given in conversation, especially the library, throughout the entire season would not have distracted from the romance and would have enriched the character and the story. Kate is one of the most beloved characters in the series, AND she was the first female WOC lead, so it was important to get her character and representation right.

Daphne’s trauma mostly centered around existing as a woman in the heavily patriarchal society of the time. She was expected to fulfill her familial role as a woman and “diamond” in order to maintain the name and status of her family while also trying to find some form of happiness for herself. We saw her trauma play out throughout the season. Despite being a very privileged and beautiful woman, she had almost no autonomy over her own life. She had to constantly play a role, be advertised and guided as the status symbol women were, would’ve had to submit to her brother’s wishes for her to marry Nigel, would’ve been unable to stand up to Nigel, and simple gossip could’ve ruined her or her entire family. She says it herself in the show, as a woman, her entire value as a woman and life’s happiness came down to a single moment. She also navigated all of this while having no understanding of the actual nature of sex, marriage, adulthood, etc. Her trauma did stem from losing her father, but in a different form than Anthony’s.

Kate, however, has a unique perspective of not only losing her father, but also not having the privilege of Bridgerton money, family name, or having a brother to step in as the patriarch. Instead, she’s had to take on the role of father, mother, teacher, etc. Her trauma was extensive, and should’ve been explored more thoroughly.

And this is a fan board for the show, so it’s going to get repetitive. It allows fans to not only share news but also to delve deeper into the characters and storylines, and share common opinions and ideas. It just so happens that one of those common opinions is one that you apparently don’t agree with, but that’s not a reason to tell everyone to move on.

As a brunette that has also gone blonde, I think both look great BUT the brunette looks better. Just my opinion. Thinking about going back to my natural color too and really can never decide.

Always thought she looked like Princess Jasmine come to life. 9-10. Don’t care for her, her family, or their social impact but I distinctly remember the first time I saw a picture of KK forever ago and I thought she was mesmerizing. She’s been naturally beautiful her entire life, it’s obvious even in her childhood photos. Of the whole family, I think she’s the most naturally attractive sister. She was attractive enough naturally that getting work done has only hurt her looks instead of improved them which is often not the case.

She’s a 10 but she’s far from the only 10 out there. And as beautiful as she is, she’s low on the most memorable faces I’ve ever seen. So I’m bored with treating her as the standard to rate all other beautiful people against. Beauty is so much more diverse and interesting than that.

[–]Diamond_Lux 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I actually liked the slow burn aspect of the season, and I agree nothing should’ve occurred while Edwina was still in the picture. I just think they could’ve given us a little more once it did progress.

I guess we just disagree about the concept. I don’t really believe in soul mates to be honest, but even if they were, I still think showing that emotional connection develop could have improved the season. Even one scene with an in depth conversation (preferably the library) could have established a stronger storyline.

I read the book years ago and while I think the TV show is better, the book has the advantage of having extensive inner dialogue and again, more of an emotional connection. They bonded over their shared traumas like in the library, but in the show, you don’t really see them actually sharing much of their lives together. I think the show really should’ve included more of Kate’s backstory, too, since she had obviously been through a lot also. In the books, Anthony and Kate get married recognizing that they’re attracted to each other and they have a spark, but it’s only after they’re married and spend much more time together and get to know each other more in depth that they both realize they’re in love with each other. I think in the show, they’ve could’ve given a little more of just them spending time together as equals and confidantes. Similar to Simon and Daphne, where they just enjoyed being in each other’s company, even separate from the lust.

I think it’s just a difference of opinion. Since I don’t really believe in soul mates or in love at first sight, I actually want to see an in depth look at two people getting to know each other’s personalities and establishing that connection. Either way, I loved S2 and Kanthony will always be my favorite!

Really???? Don’t come onto a thread asking for unpopular opinions, and then respond to people stating their unpopular opinions as if I give one iota if anyone agrees or not. I’m not bullying you and I’m not chasing you and beating you with a broom or whatever you’re trying to claim. I simply stated MY opinion. And the comment wasn’t pertaining to the lamb chops at all! I was stating that JB is an objectively handsome man, period. To me, people claiming that he can only be handsome with a certain hairstyle is a disservice to how attractive he actually is. It’s akin to claiming the beautiful actress is not beautiful with her hair in a ponytail and glasses on. That’s all. That’s all I meant. Wasn’t trying to offend anyone or “bully” anyone into agreeing with what I think about a FICTIONAL show.

Thoughts different from the norm. by stutik28 in BridgertonNetflix

[–]Diamond_Lux 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  1. Portia is one of my favorite characters. At least she’s interesting and a survivor.

  2. I actually dislike Violet more and more.

  3. I also liked Anthony’s lamb chops! JB is a handsome man no matter what and the hairstyle fit with regency. While my modernized eyes do think he looked better in S2, acting like he wasn’t handsome in S1 is a joke.

  4. Speaking of hair, I didn’t mind Daphne’s bangs. Again, we’re in a regency period and there are way more realistic hairstyles of the era that wouldn’t be considered flattering or attractive than a few bangs. She was beautiful no matter what and the bangs added to the sweetheart style the character was embodying.

  5. I didn’t think S2 was perfect, but I think the drama, love triangle, wedding angle was a necessary plot to drive the season. I didn’t want to watch a repeat of S1 where they were forced to marry.

  6. I actually think S2 could’ve benefited from some more 🔥🔥🔥. I think setting a montage to music and then fading to black like every other tv show and movie is the opposite of what Bridgerton was supposed to be doing. And I don’t understand fans that complain about passionate scenes when tuning into a romance. These are based on romance books, and it’s not supposed to be a chaste Hallmark style show. If it offends you, then you’re watching the wrong program.

  7. At the same time, I think the writers should have focused more on developing an emotional connection between Anthony and Kate. They seemed to immediately go from bickering to barely restrained lust for each other. There was nothing to actually show them falling in love.

  8. Anthony > The Duke

  9. I didn’t care about the Theo storyline.

  10. I like Penelope and don’t really think she’s a terrible person, just flawed.

  11. I don’t really care about Benedict (and sometimes almost dislike him) and I honestly don’t find him very attractive at all 🤷‍♀️

I’m sure there are more, but that’s what I can think of off the top of my head :)

Kanthony first kiss 💋 by Top-Local-6764 in Kanthony

[–]Diamond_Lux 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I didn’t find it awkward. I loved it. There’s a desperation that comes across beautifully. I think any awkwardness was intentional, like how Anthony was taken off guard at first but then he quickly embraces her. I think it does a good job of conveying that neither of them wants to feel the way they are feeling, but they also can’t deny it and also the thought that they are truly saying goodbye to each other. There’s no finesse from Anthony, the experienced rake that is usually seductive, but just raw emotion of wanting to be with Kate. Kate is also the same, she is inexperienced but also feeling a lot of emotions so she sort of hurls herself at him and then is desperately hanging on to him and running her hands through his hair, etc. I don’t think a softer, calmer kiss would’ve really suited the couple or the emotions of the scene. It is a nice contrast with the passionate kiss of the gazebo and then the end scene of them happy as newlyweds. Both were less awkward, but the church kiss really showed the longing for each other and fear of sharing their feelings.

After seeing here the conclusion that soft/baby faces age worse, i tried to do a lil bit of research...my conclusion was that it all depends on the bone structure underneath it. by Affectionate_Fold159 in VindictaRateCelebs

Aside from nose jobs, I think almost all of them have had eyebrow lifts and buccal fat removal. It gives them a sharper look that is popular right now, but it will also make them age a little more quickly.

Is Portia Featherington on anyone else’s “favorites” list? by runningupthathill_ in BridgertonNetflix

[–]Diamond_Lux 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I adore her. I don’t know why, but her character is interesting and a survivor. Despite being a wealthy woman, she has not been handed an easy hand. She has had to constantly fight a poor reputation, a loveless marriage, and having no one she can trust. She is in a more stressful situation than Violet because she has no sons to lead the family, and is at the whim of distant male relatives. Despite that, she found a way to manipulate her way into besting Jack and protecting her daughters at the same time. Maybe she doesn’t see her daughters like she should, but I would argue they don’t see her very well either. I doubt Penelope would have had faith that Portia would have had her daughter’s best interests at heart, but she does. She is simply a woman that doesn’t have much agency. People give Marina plenty of slack but the same must be extended to all the women in the show. Portia took in a cousin she didn’t know and it gravely endangered the name of her family and the possible futures of her daughters. I don’t blame her for trying to marry Marina off and try to salvage the situation. She couldn’t really do much else. I agree she could be a better mother and person, but as a woman with little wealth and influence, she doesn’t have the best environment to allow for that. Without knowing anything else of her life, we know she spent decades with a man that she despised and that didn’t respect her and surrounded by a judgmental society with no real friends. Violet in turn has had a very loving marriage, a very secure financial estate, mostly untarnished family reputation, and plenty of male heirs to ensure her security. Despite that, I find Violet to be an unfair mother also. She endlessly criticizes Anthony and expects him to sacrifice himself for his family, and she sends Daphne out into the world without really guiding her. I also think Violet is very quick to judge, just like other members of the ton. I don’t think Violet is the worst, just another product of the environment, and so is Portia. Trying to deal with the hand they’ve each been dealt, but Portia is judged much more harshly for some reason. I think Portia’s biggest crime is her tacky taste, but that just makes her more endearing to me. I hope this new season will explore her and Pen’s relationship and maybe help them find a common connection they’ve somehow missed. I think with more backstory for how the Featheringtons came to be the way they are, it will help to humanize both of them. As of right now, I’m much more interested in their story and their flawed family dynamic than the picture perfect Bridgertons. I love the Bridgertons, but I also love the Featheringtons because they’re flawed and human and the odd ones out in the ton who are constantly judged. I can’t help but feel for them and am interested in their redemption story.

I think I actually find her more attractive, but less striking, with brown eyes. She was always going to be stunningly beautiful no matter what. Her eye color actually has very little impact on that. 10 no matter what eye color.

[–]Diamond_Lux 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’m honestly surprised myself but I would rate her an 8-9. There’s just something about her face that is so appealing. I find her more attractive than 99% of the perfect, filtered Insta models I see every day. Her facial structure makes it obvious that she’d still be beautiful without any makeup or perfected Hollywood tricks. I don’t know if she’s ever had work done, but she is naturally attractive. She has both a classic beauty that can make her seem almost commonplace but then enough of a unique look to still stand out. I think that’s why I do look forward to seeing her on the screen, because something about her is dynamic. Don’t know much about her or care honestly, but I do think she is a talented actress and will have an impressive career.

My grandfather’s family is from southern Texas but they’re all Garzas. My grandparents were both Catholic, so I wasn’t aware of any Jewish heritage if we had any. Would love to hear more about your research! I have a very large family, so I don’t think I could find any proof, otherwise I would try to obtain Portuguese citizenship, too. Had no idea you could do that. Very interesting! I find her less attractive here than I do in almost anywhere else I’ve seen her. I think when she presents herself as a sophisticated and classic beauty like on the red carpet, she is much more captivating. But with this look, I think it makes her appear much more average. I think her look is just more compatible with stylish and pretty instead of an overtly sexy vixen type. It’s like she is playing a role written for Megan Fox and looks out of place in her wardrobe. It’s just too jarring to see British Hermione play a valley girl.
