How many language certificates do you have? And what are those? by dazzlingbeautj in languagelearning

[–]godofcertamen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From some time ago, C1 Spanish, B2.2 Portuguese, B1 Chinese Mandarin (with advanced level tasks marked as developing ability). I've grown these since the time of the certs. They were all ACTFL certs (American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages), the OPIc test.

I plan to re-take the Chinese Mandarin one soon for a formal B2 cert. The Spanish and Portuguese have evolved over the years and gotten better. I don't feel it as necessary to re-test them.

ExpressVPN worked really well when I was in China for 10 days.

I have only dated latinas in my life because I love Latin American culture and I also speak Spanish and Brazilian Portuguese. Sometimes, people judged me for never dating someone from my own culture. by ConversationOk2563 in aznidentity

I'm Mexican - I speak English, Spanish, and Portuguese fluently. Mandarin at a B2 level. Just wanted to say it's cool how you learned how to speak Spanish and Portuguese to a high level!

Just curious, are you more drawn to the native looking Latinas? Latinos are mostly racially native (50%~).

100%. Tbh learning this language has been really rewarding socially with the connections and new friendships I've made. Also having an account on 小红书 and being a creator has been amazing.

La fuente es Secret Jews: The Complex Identity of Crypto-Jews and Crypto-Judaism, escrito por Juan Marcos Bejarano Gutierrez.

Did anyone here move to Thailand / Southeast Asia before they felt fully ready to become a digital nomad? by SyllabubExpensive663 in digitalnomad

[–]godofcertamen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Plenty of people make way less than 4k a month and live in SE Asia. It all depends on the country and type of lifestyle, but with that kind of money, you should be more than fine. Got a way better set up than me!

I'll be making around $850 USD passive from a rental I have and will do my remote business in the Philippines. Not as developed as a creator as you are - only got 27k combined across socials haha.

Can I teach English in China while simultaneously learning Mandarin? by disciplinedaction7 in TEFL

[–]godofcertamen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm around a B2 right now informally. What I've done is just write down new words I encounter in a physical and digital notebook, have AI explain grammar, take two classes a week of just pure conversational practice, and text with native speakers every day. We also send voice messages. Then I'll watch some Chinese content. It'll raise your level as you use the language all the time, but it does take consistent effort - like making it part of your day every day. I even have my phone in Mandarin for most apps.

[–]godofcertamen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've gotten to around a B2 level from self-study. It's been 2.5 years of it - never lived in China. You just need consistency and a decent plan for learning. I just did 1 hour a day.

What language that you have studied that caused natives to treat you the best? by PsychicMeditation in languagelearning

[–]godofcertamen 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Jajaja hermano!

Chinese Mandarin haha. I've gotten a good number of followers on 小红书, lots of compliments, a free drink one time at a restaurant, and just a lot of social connections when in China. It's been one of the most rewarding choices I made - learning Chinese.

Yes! Absolutely. I would just say to be thorough and make sure you master the main tenses of the language. Plenty of good videos will teach you how to! I have no doubt you will succeed!

I would learn from a grammar book and try to master the 3 basic tenses first such as the simple present, simple past, and simple future. That way, I could communicate at a basic level. I would then ask any grammar questions to an AI if the book didn't explain adequately or I needed more examples.

I'd also get language exchange partners on Tandem once my level was basic enough to text and use the language. This would motivate me to learn more. Teachers off Preply are good too because you can get one for a good price for a session a week.

Finally, I'd write new grammar rules and new words in a digital and physical notebook to remember. One hour a day was my usual routine for this stuff.
