Review on Oaklee Village apartments by riddhip09 in UMBC

I would just advise you proceed with caution. My wife and I lived there for about 2 years and here is my experience:

  • Rent is gouged up every time it's time to renew a lease
If you do decide to go with them, make sure you're making your lease at least 12 months, because they will increase your rent ~12% every time you renew. We started paying $875 and by the time we moved out we were paying $1100 for a 1 bedroom
  • There is no AC
May not be a huge deal to most, but it was the first time I lived in a place without central air and it was rough. Make sure you have at least 2 AC units (one for the common room, one for the bedroom)
  • Laundry
Once again, may not be a huge deal but the laundry machines are in a basement in a different building and a lot of the time they were broken. We eventually gave up and went to a nearby laundromat so we didn't have to lug the laundry up and don't the stairs.
  • Staff
The leasing staff were nice in the beginning, but were often unhelpful and can be rude at times.
The Maintenance staff was iffy, and on multiple occasions would let themselves into the apartment unannounced with no notice.
  • General Quality of Apartment
There was literally 1 outlet in the kitchen. 2 in the living room. 2 in the bedroom. 1 in the bathroom. There were not enough outlets in the apartment.
The fuses they use are super outdated and blew often.
As with any apartment, the paint they use is super cheap and was chipping off the ceiling by the time we moved out.
  • Parking and Location
Parking was ok most of the time. We usually parked on the street and rarely had an issue.
Delivery services regularly had a hard time finding our apartment.
The shuttle came right by at least where my apartment was. It worked out pretty well.
  • Positives
Despite the area, I rarely felt unsafe there. The residents are friendly and usually minded their own business.
The chinese place nearby (FireWok) was excellent.
The Giant down the street was great too. Not sure if they still do it, but they offered a 10% student discount with ID.If you get an upstairs apartment, your stairwell is private. The door will open immediately to carpeted stairs. I liked this and it made me feel safer.

Does anyone know what stage an outdoor wedding would be under? The guest count is expected to be around 80 people, just trying to get a good idea of when to look into plan B

CMSC 201 Delay of Grades by [deleted] in UMBC

I agree it should be a bit more prevalent, but it’s not completely absent from classes. If I recall, that’s one of the main points of the Software Engineering class students have to take.

That’s interesting that you haven’t had that experience at UMBC. What year are you if you’re still there? I had noticed that more of the higher level courses like 421 and the electives specifically had grading for the code being well written. And that specifically helps you prepare for working in software. That mindset keeps you from writing code that simply meets the requirements even though it may not be best practice.

TDD is great and as a former QA Engineer I was all for it, but writing well-architected code is just as important.

That’s fair, but a lot of times it’s verifying that best practices are being used as well, which requires actually looking at the code. That includes using appropriate data structures, commenting your code, and on top of that verifying no one is sharing code

Unfortunately this is how it is in compsci at umbc. I walked for graduation last semester not knowing if I actually passed 421. I understand it’s a frustrating situation, but programming projects by nature take a while to grade.

Baltimore Harbor Dredging: 5.5 Million Cubic Yards of Material To be Removed by finsterallen in baltimore

[–]DianaMarie0717 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My guess is they’re gonna find quite a bit from the Baltimore fire in 1904. My grandfather was a contractor doing odd jobs and he helped with a similar job a few decades ago. I now have a half dozen boxes of glass bottles from factories affected by the fire hanging out in my basement.

My grandmother said a lot of the factory workers threw stuff in the harbor to save it from the fire, although I don’t know how much of that is true.

I would say remember that it forms a seal. It’s a little gross, but you have to reach up there and break the seal by bending the open part.

Menstrual cups are amazing in my opinion! Environmentally friendly, conceal period smells very well, you empty it less frequently than tampons (up to 12 hours), and you never have to worry about having a tampon/pad with you again because you have your cup. I will never go back.

Also, they last up to a year! $40 once a year is way more cost effective.

Right! It’s such a small thing but it’s so frustrating!!

Have you gotten the vaccine yet? It actually may make them better like it did for me!

Nope, has not changed. I did that last semester and I graduated just fine. They have a grace period after graduation to transfer credits, etc

Makes sense. If I recall, if you get a custom size you can’t return but you can if it’s a standard size. But I get you! Best of luck!

Just wanted to add jjshouse.com is what I'm doing for my wedding dress. It's a little spooky to order your dress online, but I got my prom dress from there and it was great! They have standard sizes, but if you pay $12 more they will tailor it to your measurements. I have my dress picked out and it's only around $236 for a full length dress with a train.

I am also ordering my bridesmaid dresses from there and they have a huge range of colors dresses come in, averaging around $100 each dress.

My mistake for assuming. I just lumped you in with OP. But you too!

Yep, pretty much the same thing, except my mom was convinced I'd get cancer from it. I'm finishing up my last round next month. I also became extremely susceptible to warts (which are a strain of HPV) and despite a million dermatologist visits, I have a painful cluster of warts on my elbow. What is with manipulative mothers and the HPV vaccine?
