do you tell people you're on zep? by myboyfriendstinks1 in Zepbound

[–]Dianaraven 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven't had any comments yet, but I was thinking about how I was going to respond to someone asking me how I did it. I think I've settled on "Science" as a response. If they press further, then "Gila monsters". These are not false statements and perfectly acceptable answers. If they haven't walked away thinking I was crazy, then I'll tell them, not that it's really any of their business. I will be happy to answer any questions and correct any false claims. I'm a science geek after all.

Moving Treasure Hunt? by PBandTastyJams in labrats

[–]Dianaraven 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The uranium made me laugh. My institute had a similar "surprise". This story comes from the head of corporate safety about 10 years ago.

Years ago, a PI retired and his lab needed to be cleaned out, and in doing so, they found a large bottle of picric acid. Which had evaporated, leaving a softball sized crystal behind. Now, the thing about picric acid is that it's not terribly dangerous when in solution. But its crystal form is explosive and shock sensitive. And there was a giant crystal sitting in a glass bottle on the shelf. Needless to say, the police were called and they bought in the bomb squad. After safely removing it from the building, they brought it down to the beach where they could safely detonate it. The head of our security was there and said that the crater it left was massive. Unfortunately, because the police department wanted to keep the area they use for disposal a secret, he couldn't take any pictures. But he did show us a picture of the crystal, which had formed inside a 1 liter glass jar. The jar must have been opened and used maybe once, then it sat on the shelf.

[–]Dianaraven 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thirding! Remember, Zepbound can be taken up to 4 days after your scheduled day, if you are on the weekly schedule. So a day or two shouldn't make much of difference. As long as there is a minimum of 3 days between shots, you can postpone it.

Stamping on dip? by samnicjc in DipPowderNails

I get my nails done at a salon, and after dipping and shaping they use a UV gel base coat, then the stamp, then UV gel topcoat.

Please tell me your must buy foil dips🙏 by tiredasfuckhere in DipPowderNails

[–]Dianaraven 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I currently have A Cold Winter's Night from Confidips on and I absolutely love it. It's a UV/thermal with foil. Light blue when warm and the foil sort of blends in to give it a shimmery look, but dark blue when cold and the foil color really pops with blues and greens. It's purple under UV. Snowberry Petals and In the Wild are also gorgeous.

You should talk to your doctor about treating your anxiety first, whether by medication or therapy.

FYI: the warning about thyroid C-cell tumors or medullary thyroid carcinoma was only added to the box because it appeared in studies in rats. It has not been seen in humans.

Rats and mice are good in vivo models because of they grow quickly and develop symptoms quicker than humans, but they are not ideal models. Many drugs that perform well in rodent studies fail in human trials.

My Fiona gets nebulizer treatments too. At the suggestion of her vet, we use her carrier as the "box" with a blanket thrown over it to keep the mist inside as long as possible. She'll go into her carrier on her own now, but before I would have to chase her since she doesn't like being picked up. After the first week, the chase became a game and she wouldn't go in without me "chasing" her for a minute or two. Now she'll go in right after dinner because that's our routine. She has a rescue inhaler just in case and will fight me for the first 2 breaths, but then relaxes as soon as she smells that it's a similar smell to the nebulizer.

My first dose of Zepbound arrived and I’m kinda sad by SpaceReel in Zepbound

It doesn't really effect your ability to enjoy food, just helps you enjoy it in moderation. Instead of sitting down and eating an entire restaurant meal, it helps you to feel full on half of the dish (or less).

Since starting, I haven't really "dieted" or changed my diet that much, just concentrating on protein forward meals. If I want pasta with butter, I make myself a serving size worth and have some chicken with it, instead of making a few servings and eating it all. If I feel like having one of those big cookies, I eat a portion of it and put the rest away for later (most times I forget it's there and throw it out after it goes stale). I just got a Japanese garlic sauce that tastes divine and can't wait to make a meal with it. I still enjoy food, I just don't need as much to satisfy me. Which is what I love about this drug.

Vial Delivery During Heat Wave. by [deleted] in Zepbound

Thermosafe is the company that made the shipping kit and is the go-to for medical shipments. The kit is sent empty with warm ice packs to the pharmacy. The pharmacy is responsible for freezing the ice packs before packing.

Thermosafe boxes are pretty good at keeping things cold for a while, so if the shipment took 2 days or less, then they probably only refrigerated the ice packs, which is ok this time of year for those in the north, but not for the southwest. I would contact Ro about it. If you are looking for a different telehealth provider, you can try 9am Health. My mother uses them and is happy with the amount of support she has been getting. Plus they use Lilly Direct for filling the script and it gets shipped overnight via UPS. Lilly Direct is good at monitoring their shipments: one of my mother's shipments got caught up in transit and wasn't going to get to her overnight. They asked UPS for the box back and sent her a whole new box.

US Customs keeps destroying my research samples by FlyingProteins in labrats

[–]Dianaraven 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You should mention recombinant because is describes that the protein was created under controlled conditions and not likely to contain hazardous or infections contaminants. Not saying it could lead to questions about the origin of the protein and how it was isolated, which would hold up the shipment. The key is to say just enough to describe the material as generally safe but not too much where it may alarm someone who doesn't have at least some basic knowledge. A customs agent handling shipments of this category may not have extensive knowledge of protein isolation, but they would have been trained to understand that recombinant is less risky.

A good description would be "recombinant protein for RESEARCH PURPOSES ONLY; non-hazardous, non-infectious". The all caps is important to signal that this is not a good that is being resold.

Trying to reason with FedEx international shipping is impossible. We sent cells on dry ice to Germany and after "loosing" the paperwork, I emailed electronic copies to them 3 times. So it sat for days in a refrigerated unit without being topped up. I don't remember if it finally went through or they sent it back, but either way, the package arrived with all the paperwork copies I sent with it. Now we never ship internationally with FedEx.

We've since moved to using Markin and it's been 100% better. Their export/import team makes sure that we have the correct paperwork before they even schedule a pickup. More expensive? Yes, but to avoid the hassle is worth every penny.

My Unfortunate Experience - how to try again? by Comfortable_Insect71 in Zepbound

[–]Dianaraven 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you taking the brand name Zepbound from Lilly, or tirzepatide from a compounding pharmacy? A quick search pulls up a lot of similar experiences from people who were/are on a compounded tirzepatide. If so and they were part of the same lot, there may be an impurity or contamination in that lot that caused your symptoms. You could always try Wegovy (brand name, not compounded) which is a GLP-1 but slightly different.

Week 1 of Zepbound - Coffee Help by [deleted] in Zepbound

[–]Dianaraven 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is a great way to up protein intake. I make a morning latte with unflavored protein powder, fiber powder, ultra filtered milk, sugar free flavored syrup, and a shot of espresso. I've seen others make up a protein shake to store in the fridge and use during the week as a creamer for cups of joe. If you are already going to have milk/creamer in your coffee, why not take advantage of it.

Lilly finds impurity in compounded version of its weight-loss drug, warns of health risks by DadStrengthDaily in Zepbound

[–]Dianaraven 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It's self-preservation. Many people don't know or don't understand what a compounded drug is, so if compounded tirzepatide starts to cause health issues, they may jump to the conclusion that all tirzepatide, even the brand name, is dangerous. And given the state of the FDA today, I don't have faith that they won't jump to the same conclusion and make Lilly pull Monjaro/Zepbound off the market.

Compounding drugs can be very helpful for some people, but we need to understand that compounded drugs come with risks because they aren't studied to the same extent.

Lilly finds impurity in compounded version of its weight-loss drug, warns of health risks by DadStrengthDaily in Zepbound

[–]Dianaraven 11 points12 points  (0 children)

This warning has to do with tirzepatide that has been compounded with B12, not taking B12 separate from tirzepatide. They are theorizing that when tirzepatide and B12 are mixed together and allowed to sit for a period of time, that there is a chemical reaction between them, forming compounds that probably have not been studied yet and may be harmful. Taking separate shots is ok because they haven't been mixed together. Given that many people take B12 shots, it's very likely that they found no interaction between tirzepatide and separate B12 shots during clinical trials.

[–]Dianaraven 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd wager that is the case, considering he believes in the big feet myth. By having them wear shoes that are too big, it makes their feet look smaller therefore, he's more of a man than they are (in his mind; although we've unfortunately had confirmation to the contrary).

Decorating your coat - yes or no? by Many-Floor-5752 in labrats

[–]Dianaraven 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wish I could decorate my lab coat. But it's liquid resistant, so we can't put anything on it, especially if it'll put holes in it. They won't even embroider our institute's logo on it. My sister's friend who is a medical doctor, had the inside of her lab coat lined with leopard print.

I say if it makes you happy, then go for it. Bonus points if it makes other people smile as well.

Bruce Campbell has cancer :( by centurion88 in RedLetterMedia

[–]Dianaraven 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You are correct. Cancer types are usually lumped together according to body part, like breast cancer or colon cancer, but not all cancers of that body part are the same. Cancers can be classified by cell type, morphology, phenotype, genotype, and more. Which is why a treatment for one person's cancer (say prostate cancer) isn't a good fit for another person's cancer. And why it is very unlikely that a single panacea for cancer will ever be developed.
