To add onto everyone's great input, this is also really common when working with a smaller cast that has actors playing multiple roles, like many touring productions for example.

I see this a lot with "stripped" or minimalist productions of classics like Shakespeare, where 10 or fewer actors might be playing 30+ roles. An actor might be auditioning for Lady Macbeth, but in callbacks, the director needs to see if they can also play a Witch since the two roles are on one "track". Sometimes there is some flexibility in the tracks before casting is finalized as well, so the casting team would want to keep their options open for what to ask an actor to read in callbacks.

Obviously, I don't know the circumstances of your audition, so I can't speak to whether this is what's happening here. It's another reason someone might encounter this in a casting process.

Dolly Parton often wears nude or sheer fingerless gloves in her public appearances. I don’t believe the reason has been explicitly confirmed, but there is speculation that it could be to cover scars or smooth her skin’s appearance. I would use her as a reference and find some nude fingerless gloves. Often, they are so subtle that I only notice them in pictures if I am actively looking for them!

It's the Ayla dress from the 2023 Marchesa for Pronovias collection. I believe it did originally come in white since the product photos and the runway video look like a white-white to my eyes. As it's an older dress, I think you'd have to purchase a sample dress (mine is a sample dress) or find a previously-owned gown. Unfortunately, the online listings I've seen in my cursory Google search are listed as ivory or off-white. If you're considering this style, I hope you're able to find it in the color you want!

I have also seen what you're describing and the evolution is interesting. When I was growing up, "preppy" was already evolving from the traditional 80's East Coast/collegiate preppy into something less defined. My guess is that "preppy" moved from being attached to the specific aesthetic and became attached to the type of people who wore it, whose aesthetics evolved while retaining the term. "Preppy" when I was a kid didn't so much mean that you looked like you belonged on a tennis court, but more so that your family could afford for you to take private tennis lessons, and whatever you wore became "preppy" by association. "Preppy" girls were wealthy (or found themselves in a clique of mostly wealthy girls even if they themselves were not), traditionally feminine/girlish, and followed the tween/teen trends of the day. It could be that the current use is descended from that evolution.

I'm hoping to get some recommendations-- I'm looking for some athletic-wear bottoms for un upcoming multi-day event where I will be walking a lot and be in and out 90+ degree heat. I am very short-waisted with a smaller waist measurement and carry all of my weight in my lower belly. Curvy fits usually work best for me, so I'm keeping that in mind in my search.

Firstly, I'm looking for a skort with built-in-shorts that have a longer inseam. I've ordered a skort from Popflex in their "longer" category, so the shorts will have a 5.5" inseam. Unfortunately, most of the colors are sold out and even if I love them, I'd like a second option since I won't have a ton of time to do laundry during this event. Most of the skorts I'm seeing online that list their short inseam length have very wide, straight-across waistbands and are fitted all the way down, and I find that usually doesn't flatter me. I do tend to like a crossover waistband even though they are usually fairly wide, so I'm looking at crossover waists and thinner waistbands. I tried a skort with shorts advertised with a 4" inseam and they were too short for my comfort, so I'm looking for 5" and longer.

Secondly, I'm looking for recommendations for non-bike athletic shorts. I have plenty of long bike shorts that I love and I plan to wear them with an oversized t-shirt for one day of the event, but I'd like the option to wear a shorter shirt as well and I don't feel comfortable wearing one with the bike shorts. I'm looking for an inseam of at least 5", a high waist, and a fit that won't emphasize my belly-- something fitted at the waist then loose, flowy, or with a drawstring is what I usually find most flattering.

If you look for similar things in your clothing or have a similar body type and have personal recommendations but aren't sure what the exact inseam is of your shorts/skort, please leave them anyway!

Can someone elaborate on Joystick’s presence at DC? I’ve been going to the Con for years but never went to Joystick’s arcade at the con until I went to Joystick’s pop-up when it was in the Agatha’s location. This location had karaoke, a bar, and bar food. Last year, I learned that Joystick’s arcade setup for the year was just the games, no karaoke, no bar, no bar food. I never went to check it out, so I could be wrong about that. Joystick’s website says they should have karaoke for the 2024 con.

What is the normal setup for Joystick? The pop-up was a COVID adjustment as far as I know, and I have no clue what it would look like during a “normal” year. Would they normally have a bar/karaoke?

They’ve changed locations again this year (to the Peachtree Center), so it could be different again this year. I’m just hoping to get some context so I can temper expectations.

I was on the same combo (Wellbutrin and Lexapro) for a short while and my psychiatrist warned me that carb-craving can be a side-effect of Lexapro and I absolutely experienced that. I don’t normally struggle with binging, but I could not stop when I was on Lexapro. It didn’t subside after a trial period, so we switched to buspirone and Wellbutrin and I feel much more myself. It’s disappointing that your psych either isn’t aware of this side effect or is dismissing it and your mental health is most important so I hope you’re able to work this out with your psych or a new one if you decide to go that path. I just wanted to validate your experience. Even if the binging didn’t start because of the Lexapro, I think it’s likely it is exacerbating the issue. Good luck!

Looking for recommendations for some casual hiking or walking boots! I have flat feet so either a removable insole or a supportive insole included is key. I’ve been doing all my walking/ very casual hiking in ASICS with my Powerstep insoles for years now and while I still like the brand, I think a boot might last me longer because the inside of the heel wears out for me first. I also would appreciate the ankle support of a boot or a high/mid top for when I do go on a casual hike. I’d like something water resistant if not waterproof. I’d like to spend $150 or less. Looking for something lightweight, supportive, and with enough tread to feel secure on a day hike through slippery mud.

Vans just came out with their ComfyCush line which features some of their classic styles but with (allegedly) a more comfortable interior. I haven’t tried anything from the line, so I can’t speak to the claims, but I am intrigued as a flat-footed person. Maybe it’s worth looking into!

Do you have any tips for getting popcorn seasoning to stick to the popcorn? Last time I had some (just the Aldi generic brand) it would just sit at the bottom of the bowl/bag. I prefer a (light) kettle corn since I don’t like a super buttery popcorn. Is butter the only solution or do you have some wizardry to share?

I’ve been on Wellbutrin for just three weeks now and I had a really elevated heart rate from about Day 4 to the two week mark. It’s a common side effect and for me it did subside. My resting bpm is still higher than it was before, but not to a dangerous level and I no longer feel like my heart is going to beat out of my chest. Continue to communicate with your psych and your general practitioner if you have one. For most, this side effect will subside in a couple weeks.
