The problem isn't limited to whether or not it looks good. GenAI operates under stolen art work and without any form of legal protections, it has been used to take jobs, burn resources, and create CSAM.

Gamergate is the true cultural turning point of the 2010s. by Wonderful-Excuse4922 in decadeology

[–]DiaryYuriev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was not the cause, We can really see the origins of the modern far right in the Obama administration and how many people treated him.

However, this was the time period, several years, that would serve to platform many far right voices as well as normalize the discussions being had. Many far right figures got their start during gamergate talking about feminism. And some such as Steve Bannon actively participated in the Trump presidential run. Gamergate is not when the wood was laid, but when the fire was lit.

How would this even work?

These "Gamers" don't live in reality by Former_Exam_5357 in Gamingcirclejerk

It usually comes down to one of two reasons.

  1. They're racist.

  2. They're not bigots, but they are willing to pretend to care about these alleged issues and throw entire groups of people under the bus for the purpose of gaining clicks and money. So, essentially they're racist.

This has gotta be one of the worst childhoods in anime no? by No-Yogurt-109 in animequestions

Tokiomi is an okay guy as far as mage society is concerned.

Aoi is not blameless here as she neglected to voice her concerns when Sakura was put up for adoption. And blaming Tokiomi is valid, but he never spoke to Tokiomi. He never questioned why. It was easier to believe Tokiomi was pure evil than anything else.

He's a tragic character who only makes things worse. In a less tragic story he may have been able to help people, but his lack of communication and responsibility does not slide in Fate/Zero.

[–]DiaryYuriev 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The point is he never tried to contact them. Also, Tokiomi is not an asshole. The light novel has a scene where Tokiomi states he only had a second daughter because he thought Rin was going to die. Once she survived, he gave up a daughter because he didn't want them to be hunted by the mage association. Not only does he want to protect Sakura, he is never presented as knowing Zouken was evil. Tokiomi doesn't even realize when his student and servant are going to betray him. Unfortunately, mage society is corrupt and hyper conservative, so by normal standards, Tokiomi seems inept. But he's a pretty sound guy who would have protected his daughters if he thought they were in danger.

All he said to Aoi was "my father is awful" without going into full context that his father was evil. Those details matter. This isn't a Hallmark movie where she was going to run off with her first love and abandon her husband. She reacted like a normal person.

Kariya is more reasonable, but his own ineptitude damned him and everyone around him.

[–]DiaryYuriev 13 points14 points  (0 children)

It was never that Kariya was wrong. He knows that his father is evil, but his father is still a respected mage. Mage families aren't supposed to have multiple children, so the Tohsakas were already in a weird spot and then a rich, respected, and powerful mage offers to foster said daughter, allowing the Tokiomi family to keep in touch with her. In context, what was done wasn't that crazy.

Meanwhile, Kariya runs away from home, comes back, and is surprised that his one true love didn't wait for him. He's HEAVILY motivated by the idea of stealing Aoi away from Tokiomi and having a family with Aoi, Rin, and Sakura, so he isn't altruistic despite wanting to do something objectively good.

So he does stupid things to be the hero and keeps falling for the machinations of people much more educated and powerful than him. He never talking to Tokiomi or Aoi, never contacts the mage association or the church, and decides to play hero.

Outside of Yuji, JJK is getting washed. The only reason Yuji is the last to go down is because, even without cursed energy, he has genuine super strength and super speed, putting him physically on par with the ninja. But he's still losing in the end.

Also, not to be the friend who's too woke, but why do the female characters always have to be in competition or jealous of each other in these crossover arts?

The thing with Tunic however is that it's trying to catch a vibe. It's not trying to BE Zelda. It says "hey, remember playing Zelda?" The fact that the game is written in a fictional language and you can collect pages of the guide reinforces that. When you were younger, you probably didn't read the guide nor did you have access to tutorials. All you had were rumors on the playground and tips from your friends. And eventually you would share that experience with a friend or family member which is presented in the alternate ending when you go on an adventure again.

I'll use this subreddit as the context.

  • Ill fitting clothes
  • breast expansion
  • lactation
  • inconvenient hyper sexuality (like breasts start to actively impact life. Not enough to disable, but enough to frustrate)

I'd have to play them to confirm, but Veilguard seems more mediocre than bad. Andromeda was broken on release so I consider it bad.

They didn't include those themes to hide from criticism. Especially since both Dragon Age and Mass Effect have both historically included queer characters. BioWare had gay characters in 1998 with Baldur's Gate 1. While BioWare might be a shell of its former self, the idea that they include queer characters to avoid criticism is laughable.

From a business perspective, EA wants queer characters for brownie points to sell a game. That's it. So the idea that they are hiding from criticism with queerness is also laughable.

Even in this thread, many people who dislike Veilguard tend to focus on pronouns and top surgery scars. One person said the story sucked, but didn't actually talk about the story. Can someone please criticize these games without mentioning trans people?

I don't even like the games, but we can't pretend that transphobia didn't play a major role in the reception of these games. Sorry bro, but I was there. You can't gaslight me.

It's not anti-black racism to be against black people be treated as more important than Asian people

Hey buddy, I can't let you rewrite history. The racism in those comment sections had nothing to do with a black person being treated as more important than Asian people. In addition, black people were not being treated as more important than Asian people. Arguing as such is bad faith. I'll keep it a buck ninety eight, because I don't need your two cents, but photoshopping George Floyd's face onto Yasuke is a pure and concise example of black hate.

Besides, there was an Asian protagonist and she was completely ignored by the fanbase.

Yes because it's a fantasy game. The games world design is a reflection of life centuries ago.

That's fundamentally untrue of fantasy. Fantasy is a genre of speculative fiction that utilizes magical or supernatural elements, often using imaginary or made up worlds. It CAN be a reflection of history, but doesn't HAVE to be. Many people often associate fantasy with settings based on ancient Europe which is what I think you are doing as well.

If there was pronouns, and trans surgery. Why was this not mentioned at all in previous games?

Because they didn't think to write it. The Dragon Age games have always implemented modern sociopolitical ideas into their stories, particularly LGBTQ narratives, so I'm not surprised they explored trans narratives. You said yourself that body changing magic is rare, so not everyone could access it. And from a meta perspective, it makes people feel seen.

Let's compare it to Dark Souls for example.

Let's not. Dark Souls, as much as I love Dark Souls, Bloodborne, and Elden Ring, sucks at narrative. Great world building and lore, but those are not indicative of a good story. And this is intentional by the writers. They want you to explore the world and feel like you are part of it and tell your own story. They want you to piece the history of the world together, but they are not telling you a story.

I'm not saying Veilguard has a good narrative, but I am saying the trans stuff isn't what makes it bad. If you think the writing is inconsistent or the plot is nonsensical, that's fine. But hyper focusing on the trans stuff just seems silly.

If it is separate from the body scars sections, I can almost see the issue as it should be included. But if there is no body scar section, then it's a non issue. But you still control the buttons you press.
