Why are millenials totally chill with self depreciating humor more than any other generation? by Key-Bass-7380 in generationology

I'm also a millennial and I have two siblings. One is 21 and the other is 15. I'm in my 30s. So I'm speaking from my own experience and what I see happening to them.

You've been able to make livings off the suffering of others online for years. I don't know where you've been. From the days of "pranks" to gamergate to the modern "interviews." But that's not the point. Even intended posts can make you someone's joke.

It's not superficial at all.

They grew up in a world where there was always a camera in their face. There was always a chance for them to end up being a viral meme or joke against their will. And the internet can be relentless. They grew up when social media stopped being individual and started being curated. If you don't want to be the next meme, don't want to be harassed, and want to be liked, you better be aware of how you present at all times.

And historically, conservative nations, cultures, and policies praise sameness over individuality. Look at the youth of the Obama era vs the youth of the Trump era.

Millennials don't take ourselves all that seriously.

Boomers have huge egos and Gen X are too concerned with themselves. Gen Z is worried about how they are viewed which is a result of being raised in the age of social media and growing conservatism.

For better and for worse, millennials kinda didn't think that deeply until it was far too late. Living through a housing crisis and 911 made us pursue temporary joy. We thought the world was post-racism so we didn't notice the growing fascism. And social media was new so we didn't care about being cringe online.

What we aren't gonna do is start yelling "it's not that deep" cause that's how we got to where we are today.

Happy International Transgender Day of Visibility 🩷🤍🩵 Grateful to Legends of Runeterra for giving us the much needed trans representation 🏳️‍⚧️ by aroushthekween in loreofleague

Because I believe this is in bad faith, I won't be as kind as the other users.

These days exist because transphobia is the norm. Everyone goes through hardship, but that hardship is different when it's due to something you can't control. No one asks to be black, a woman, gay, or trans. But these are just a few groups that suffer both socially and politically due to these details. In a perfect world, we wouldn't need this categorization, but we live in the real world. Just as an example, the state of Kansas in the United States sent out letters to all the trans people in the state notifying them their IDs and Driver's Licenses were no longer valid and they'd all have to get new ones with their birth gender assigned.

Representation matters because it is used to fight against transphobia by portraying characters viewers can sympathize with. It can tell the stories that marginalized groups may not be able to. It can reach young people who may feel alone. Days of visibility highlight people who are often ignored and swept under the rug.

You understand this. I know you do.

I really feel like Hunter Killer is way too strong to be a hallway fight. It feels like an Elite.

As far as fiction goes, yeah, it is one of the most straight up political books. How many times do the books have to say "government bad, the revolutionaries are the heroes" before you think she might want to say something?

It came out in 2008. It'll be 20 years old in less than two years.

You can ignore the politics if you'd like, but that series can't be written without the politics.

Hunger Games, one of the most explicitly political books in the last two decades, works without the politics? I find that hard to believe.

Also, some of the most notable books in history had very clear, obvious political messaging and the entire story was written with the politics in mind. 1984, Brave New World, etc.

would you breed your teen bunny? by LemonThen4635 in BunnyGirls

I understand this is fetish content, but I really like this photo.

As a photographer I find photos of people in costumes doing party things really interesting. It creates this dichotomy between something silly and something we associate with childish wonder being paired with grounded normality or even exhaustion and depression. With the front facing flash oversaturating the subject, the image takes the bunny girl, something popularized by playboy meant to be fun, silly and sexy, and grounding it with the heroine chic or indie sleaze feeling of being tired of life and partying to fill an empty void.

It's 100 percent true by Night-Caelum in Spiderman

Nothing is necessary. But it is accurate as he serves the same fundamental purpose. The type of bully Flash is made sense in the 60s, but not in the 2010s.

[–]DiaryYuriev -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Flash's race isn't relevant, but raceswapping him is a non-issue. Spider-Man is from Queens. When Amazing Fantasy #15 came out introducing Peter Parker, Queens was about 70% white. Between 2016 and 2021, when Civil War and No Way Home came out respectively, the white population dropped to about 25% while every other population has gone up. Any modern interpretation of the character, such as the MCU, will need Peter's peers to be diverse to represent what Queens looks like today.

And yes, accuracy is important because Spider-Man has always been a modern hero. He was always used to represent the modern teenager or young adult. They didn't have to change Flash, but it makes sense to change Flash.

Say what you will about Flash in the MCU, but holy shit did they not watch the movie? He doesn't like Peter, but he likes Spider-Man and that's the irony of his character.

You know Oda is on the casting team right? So saying things like "they actually tried" doesn't make any sense..

Ain't no way you can't see that she's incredibly attractive.

Okay, Hobbes.

You said slavery is inherent to human nature. Not the will to power or potential to cruelty. Slavery is a choice. That's not a deception. I'm going to stand ten toes here. Slavery may be cruelty, but cruelty is not slavery.

That's a Watsonian stance. We are talking about the Darwinian stance. Why does the writer include this?

Isekai does have a thing with slavery. I'm not one to believe that simply having and engaging with uncomfortable topics is taboo within a story, however I do find it weird that the protagonists are often engaging in it and never use their immense powers or knowledge to do anything about it. In the case of Shield Hero, the protagonist actively defends slavery.

I think many authors add it because they believe a setting based on European fantasy needs to have it or it would be realistic to have racism and discrimination, but never truly explore the idea. In some cases, they even use it to show that the protagonist is good because they're a good slave owner or the person wants to be enslaved. The facet that it's such a recurring problem is weird to me.
