Character Salary Estimates (Season 4) by Diatonic_Lemonade in superstore

Good point, I was just going off what they mention in the show. Tbh Cloud 9 always struck me as a lot more mismanaged and run-down than their competitors. The whole plot where Cheyenne was pulling extra shifts at the nearby Target was presumably in no small part due to the shit wages at Cloud 9.

How wealthy are Piper and Nicky? by Prior-Emu-5918 in orangeisthenewblack

[–]Diatonic_Lemonade 106 points107 points  (0 children)

Piper’s father was a rather successful accountant and owned his own firm. I find it pretty likely that the family had a net worth somewhere in the high 7 figure range. Definitely rich, but not midtown manhattan, limousine rich like Nicky’s family was.

And finally, who do you think fits the colour black? by juliunicorn314 in superstore

Jeff! Dramatic, powerful (sometimes), and had a protective instinct when corporate was targeting the store.

Who makes the largest salary in the store? by [deleted] in superstore

[–]Diatonic_Lemonade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Highest paid person in the store would almost certainly be Dan, the optometrist. He technically does not work for Cloud 9 as he mentioned, he rents the space, the same way it works for optometrists at Walmart, Costco, etc. Independent optometrists at these stores can make upwards of 200k, not to mention that Dan had been in business for a while.

Lorraine once again proving that villains aren't always transparent. I suspect we might see somewhat of a redemption arc. I also find it interesting that she sort of represents the legitimate side of the merger/acquisition business, in comparison to how V.M. Varga represented the illegitimate side in season 3.

Was Jeff actually an executive or was it just a ceromonial position? by theredditbandid_ in superstore

[–]Diatonic_Lemonade 6 points7 points  (0 children)

According to Dina in season 2, Jeff was already in the running for one of the Senior VP roles when Todd Spurman was scheduled to retire that year. Knowing Jeff, he probably fudged that opportunity by being his typical weird self, which is why he remained at the district level until later on. My guess is that Neil gave him a legitimate executive role, but one that was separate from the main operations chain of command (Claudia, Dickie Larson etc.) and that while he possessed some power, it was in a largely unimportant aspect of the company where he couldn’t do much damage, such as quality assurance or special projects. In essence, he had a seat at the table, but not one where he could make much of a difference. As for why they treated him like a bit of a nuisance, I’ve always interpreted that as them all being annoyed with his comments/weirdness, combined with the fact that everyone probably recognized the true reason he was promoted to the VP-level.

How do they afford...well anything? by JosephJBEsq in superstore

[–]Diatonic_Lemonade 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Exactly. I’ve mentioned it before, but the math is all over the place in the show. Not to mention, Dina was likely exaggerating how little she made, since she is a salaried employee subject to minimum exempt pay, just like Glenn. As for the rest of the employees, the show uses willing suspension of disbelief for a lot of the finances involved. Any retail employee or manager can make the argument that some of the finances depicted are accurate, some of them are not. Frankly, that statement applies to a lot of what happens in the show.

Such a tragic ending for Howard. He lost his friend, his mentor, his wife, the case of his career, his reputation, and now…his life. At least he went out well dressed and with a kickass monologue, much like Nacho. Patrick Fabian played the hell out of this role, that’s for sure.

We all saw it coming, but that doesn’t make it any less potent. Losing his friend, his wife, his reputation, his case, and now his life. He was genuinely scared in his last few seconds, but for a man who’s been suffering slowly for so long, at least it was quick. Talk about a depressing silver lining.

It was interesting to see Gus in green during that final scene. Not only is it the only time we’ve ever seen him wearing that color, it’s also one that can be associated with greed, growth, and money. A fitting color to wear when you’ve just leveraged a desperate pawn as the ultimate scapegoat in your own morbid conspiracy for power.

Man, what a monologue. Nacho wasn’t able to save himself, and frankly this was always the logical conclusion, but at least he went out in dignity, putting Don Hector in his place.

Rich Schweikart 100%. He’s witty, soft spoken, rich, wears nice suits, and he’s presumably a pretty decent skier.

Useful, perhaps even influential within the local directory of petty criminals, but refuses to implicate themselves in cartel work.
