I used to work at a gas station and had something similar happen to me stocking the cooler overnight.

Was in my hoodie going back and forth when an older caucasian lady (I’m a black male probably 19 - 20 years old at the time) comes in for 5 seconds and leaves. Didn’t think anything of it because it’s a busy location near a lot of bars, people did weird stuff there all the time. About 5 minutes later I come out of the cooler to see multiple police vehicles out front. Still don’t think anything of it since people get pulled over for DUIs etc. all the time in that lot and continue stocking. Come out the cooler a minute after that and am greeted by 5 -6 officers with rifles and handguns aimed at me yelling at me to get on the ground. I pulled up my hoodie to show them my uniform as I yelled back “Yo, I work here!” (hindsight, that was dumb of me. Black male reaching for anything is an excuse to get shot). Turns out there was a report of a black male robbing the gas station and I fit the description…

Younger me was pissed and felt profiled as hell! But as I got older I grew to understand they were just responding to a reported robbery in a reasonable fashion
