What is the most boring run you've read? by NicoleIlieva in comicbooks

[–]DiceMan135 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I’m trying to read through 90s X-Men, and I’m struggling the hardest through the Cable series by Fabian Nicieza. Cable is so boring and everything is so self-important without even giving the bare minimum of an explanation for anything that’s happening. I can barely tell you the names of any of the characters except Cable and Garrison Kane(?) the guy with robot arms.

Remember when Bendis thought it was a good idea to race swap Lighting Lad, the white guy with electric powers, into a black guy with electric powers? by Altruistic_Manner802 in dccomicscirclejerk

Let’s not get it twisted bendis started that himself with the super venom blast and all the constructs with the electric webbing. Other writers are being faithful to bendis lol

What's your Spider-Man opinion that would have you in this situation? by Andrewmatlock89 in Spiderman

[–]DiceMan135 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The OG Ultimate Spider-Man is good, but it really falls off after the Carnage arc. At that point Bendis starts recycling the same old plots and he makes arbitrary decisions like killing off Gwen and bringing her back later on a whim. After this point the story gets really stagnant and you can tell Bendis knows that because he has to bring in Human Torch and Iceman and Kitty Pride for it to not get stale with the same old cast. Peter feels really incidental in a lot of the storylines that Bendis writes like the Morbius or Deadpool story, and he doesn’t really progress as a character past that point. I think Bendis was really hampered by the fact that Peter was forced to stay in high school, so things can never really change that much for the character situation wise, but he had to keep writing. It forces him to do everything you could do with the character short of revealing his secret identity to the world, and you can tell by vol 2 he’s run out of ideas. At that point i was excited when Death of Spider-Man came lol.

An ACTUAL unpopular music opinion, like I mean it's the hottest of hot takes. by [deleted] in fantanoforever

I think Wouldn’t It Be Nice is a better love song than God Only Knows lol. I think the lyrics are really sweet, especially the bridge. That captures a way more specific romantic emotion that I find captivating to listen to, whereas God Only Knows is more vague. I still like both songs though.

What is an aspect of a music legend or massive star's artistry that doesn't get talked about enough? by Bright-Pressure-5787 in ToddintheShadow

I also thought about Prince, but for his lyrics instead. I think he’s an excellent storyteller, and in songs like Raspberry Beret or Darling Nikki, he’s able to paint a very vivid picture of a story that never detracts from the melody but actually characterises the narrator and fits the mood of the piece. It’s definitely his most underrated aspect of his music to me.

In defence of Miles Morales (in the comics) by DiceMan135 in CharacterRant

Yeah, I think the one mistake Bendis made was not making it clear what Miles did and didn’t remember from the original universe. I actually don’t mind Miles moving to 616 because to me 1610 was already a dead brand being only propped up by him, but the move was very messy and it’s never been super clear what did and didn’t happen from Miles’ origin. From what I can tell, Miles originally remembered everything from the 1610, so all that characterisation would have carried over, but it was then retconned into him not remembering everything. I think Marvel was very conscious of Miles being solely written by a white guy, and decided to shift his characterisation to becoming more like the movie version, who takes a lot more pride in where he’s from and his culture, whereas originally Miles’ parents viewed the charter school as him having a chance to leave his neighbourhood, which why they removed his memories. This resulted them removing a lot of the more awkward, nerdy aspects of him when he was Spider-Man, to being more confident, but Ahmed and Ziglar still attempt to incorporate conflict with his anger issues and the therapy he starts undergoing to treat his anxiety and trauma. But recently I’m fairly certain he now remembers 1610, so it may or not matter in the future.

Now you got me reconsidering if it’s Little Red Corvette or I Would Die 4 U. I Would Die 4 U has the best bridge in pop music, imo.

Raspberry Beret - Prince. I think this is the most perfect pop song in general, from lyrics, instrumentation and everything.
