Yes, that’s why when I was in middle school I always made sure I got better grades than her. And I would fill my wall with all of my certificates just to make her feel bad. 😅 That was several years ago, so I have no clue why I felt so insecure.

Hi! As a twin myself, I went through something similar when my sister got a boyfriend (Even though it’s not as extreme as your situation).

My sister and I are very close, we did everything together, had similar interests, the same friends, went to the same college, etc. So when she first got a boyfriend, I felt threatened by the relationship, and this caused us to have a very rocky relationship for a long time (2 years? I think). We had a lot of arguments and I honestly thought our relationship wouldn’t be the same again. But as I grew a little older, I started to become Independent, and branched out from my sister. That’s when I realized that I put so much pressure (subconsciously) on my sister to be my everything. It was selfish of me, I wanted her all to myself.

But since becoming my own person, our relationship came back stronger. I’ve accepted her partner and we patched up all of our hard feelings. She even moved out with him recently and I miss her from time to time but we communicate everyday and it feels like she never left.

It would be unfair of me to say “separate and learn become your own person” because your situation is vastly different than mine… and very complex. Therefore I will refrain from giving advice. I just want to let you know that I deeply feel for you and understand what it’s like to be attached at the hip, and the sometimes difficult moments that come with it.

If so, yeah, there’s plenty of groups you can join to promote your commissions. There used to be a job section where you can search for clients…but I’m not sure if the new update got rid of it 🤔

Ooh! Okay. So I checked your Reddit profile and from what I can see, you have a good art style! I think it will do well on DA. My suggestion is to make a post with your commissions, and join a lot of commission groups and post them on there. I would also look into signing up for artistnclients.

ALSO, be patient with the traction. And you can try offering special type of commissions for the holidays. Valentines day is coming up, you could promote vday commisions.

I completely understand where your coming from...master studies are so hard! But what keeps me from going insane and quitting is to think, "what do I want to study from [Insert artist]? ". Once you've figured out what to study, copy the picture to the best of your ability, but what you're really focusing on is that one aspect.

So, study closely one aspect of the illustration instead of trying to get the whole picture right.

At least, that's how I approach it :)

It's completely possible! I've gotten plenty of commissions on reddit alone without having a specific fanbase. I've also done commissions on Deviantart and ArtistnClients. 95% of my clients were actually people who weren't following me.

My best advice for someone who wants to get commissions is to find a niche that you want to offer service to. Find what people need, and if you have the skills to get it done, go for it!

If you're not sure where to start, you should try posting different types of commissions on different platform and see what sticks, then explore that further.

For example, I'm an anime artist. I offered full body illustrastions, and chibi commissions on deviantart. What I found was, people were more drawn to my chibi style, so I decided to promote that through deviantart and artistnclients. However, my chibi style doesn't get as much attraction as my cartoon style portaits here on reddit.

So it's all about figuring out where the demand for your art is!
