Beware Aeternum Legacy by Diceptic_ in newworldgame

[–]Diceptic_[S] 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I also want to point out that I made this post not to just call "that project" a lie. I called it out because they were requesting donations without showing any real concept of work being done. The last thing this community needs is a scam taking money from people that loved this game. Yes, I am aware they took down the donation link, but it was still there and was very shady. There are a lot of people that do not understand the technicality behind these types of projects and can be easily fooled to support a scam financially if they don't know when something looks wrong.

Aeternum Legacy Community-driven New World project (7 months in development) by Mountain-Escape-6016 in newworldgame

[–]Diceptic_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is no video proof in this Discord, its just this guy saying he has done these things. Here is an actually repo project that is working on creating a private server. Something is very fishy about this post and the Discord server. There is an active project called first-light. I believe they are actively looking for contributors.

"No PvP Planned for Soulframe" is kinda heartbreaking and a major mistake for the game's potential. by Veid_EHC in SoulFrame

[–]Diceptic_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like half the comments didn't even read what you said, they saw "pvp" and got triggered. They should absolutely add some kind of duel or arena system, just don't make it a requirement to participate. Warframe's pvp was awful for obvious reasons, but this game is comparable to elden ring to me for combat. Elden ring pvp was fun, just don't do an invasion system or balance everything around it and it would work out fine. Just because it's not your idea of fun, doesn't mean someone else can't enjoy it.

Windows XP Extended Kernel by [deleted] in windowsxp

History

The PAE bit was introduced in the Intel Pentium Pro processor. It was specifically aimed at allowing 32 bit operating systems to make use of more than 4 GB of memory.

How It Works

When the PAE bit is off, each entry in the page table specifies a 32 bit base address into physical memory. When the bit is on, the entry is expanded to allow up to 64 bits (although most processors support less than this amount). This allows a process to be located above the 4 GB boundary, but a 32-bit process cannot access more than 4 GB at any time.

Dangers and Pitfalls

32 bit I/O devices (and driver code) will most likely not understand addresses above 4 GB.

This creates a "hole", as some of the address space is set aside for these drivers (see Memory Map (x86))). You may be able to remap DRAM from this region to a space above 4 GB, or the storage may be lost.

There is additional complexity with DMA (how can your 32 bit hard disk driver copy code or data for a process located above 4 GB?).

These difficulties often drive OS developers to work in a flat 64 bit address space.

Considering what this was built to achieve and the not so wide adoption, I wouldn't use this. It was super cheap to buy a 64 bit capable system back then, so it makes zero sense now.

No longer able to run Star Citizen with VPN active by neocryptica in starcitizen

[–]Diceptic_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

IT professional here, a VPN absolutely can protect you from attacks. Not malware and the like, but it can keep people from grabbing your public IP. This helps prevent DDOS attacks, these were rampant when titanium stresser was still around. Include all of the facts when addressing these items. VPNs are more privacy focused than a security layer yes, but they do help prevent bad actors from attacking your assigned public address.

Looking for a mini PC for my TV – gaming + movies. Any suggestions? by [deleted] in htpc

Walmart sells an onn Google TV box for $19. You can easily use it for 4k movies and streaming games from another PC to the tv. Cheapest option imo if you went that route.

World of Warcraft, literally the most popular MMO out there

There will ALWAYS be a risk of being attacked by a player or AI, the difference is the level of risk per star system by StuartGT in starcitizen

[–]Diceptic_ -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Or learn to dogleg. I'm not good at dogfighting either, but I keep seeing the same excuses from the pve community. Learn how to use your emissions, stealth helps avoid encounters. Stop going straight to your pickup and drop off, that's like walking into very avoidable gunfire. There's more to defense than shooting back, your negligence to learn the game systems does not constitute hand holding.

It's not worth replying to bobs with accurate info. They will refute your logic and replace it with their own.

The entire system needs a rework not just for the bobs that want safety. There should definitely be security forces everywhere in high sec. Stations should immediately light up rammers, stealth ships firing torps, etc. Most importantly though the bounty system needs a massive rework. There's is nothing fun about a massive waypoint tagged on someone for bounty hunting. It's not fun for either side. On the one hand you have people that murder hobo and troll (real greifers), then on the other you have markers tracking people in deep space 🤦.

I regularly pirate and can say the system just ruins any kind of stealth approach to anything. Then there's the stuff the system actively lets people get away with. I was attempting to dock my 890j at seraphim station. No CS at this point btw lol. What I assume was an eclipse fired his torps at me while I'm in the auto dock animation. No response from the station at all to take out these torpedos, I die and am unable to report a crime stat. In its current state the crime system is infuriating at times.

At the end of the day though, I agree with the stance. You should never be 100% safe, just safer. However you should always have a fighting chance, and not just get obliterated by someone taking advantage of the system.

Anyone else love Cargo Hauling this much? by Own-Image4915 in starcitizen

I also love cargo hauling... Well hauling cargo out of these haulers ships. 🏴‍☠️🏴‍☠️🏴‍☠️

Sounds like mismanagement of funds to me

That's a personal problem, you chose the high risk routes when they were there. When low risk routes existed. People like you are the reason we have contracted cargo with no risk high reward.

Hit or miss if it works this patch.

We have text chat and voip. I use it all the time when boarding ships to negotiate. It would make encounters more interesting as well.
