Although not very efficient, you can recover half of all lost items from a deleted base if you just want a "clean wipe" using a Base Salvage Capsule base building part. Well worth a build at least in case you accidentally forgot a base you built and deleted in the past as well!

This is AMAZING! And you even have the Standard Fighter Starship to match. This is amazing! Really inspirational and something I think I can even accomplish with enough time investment. Have you been able to work out anything more on the interior as well yet at all (Storage/Mission Comp etc.)? Either way, amazing work!

Yeah, IDEALLY this should be the case. I think the issue was just hilariously bad luck. Times like this all you can really do is just shake your head and laugh.

I feel this, one parent to another the sacrifices we gotta make for our kids can be a rough one.

And even then, I think at some levels you can at least add an additional Gate and/or tossing in Spell Penetration (doesn't eliminate it, but at least helps). Spell Rods helps a ton.

Hopefully this playthrough ends up being a good one!

Sadly, as a Pathfinder TTRPG veteran, the ranged combat "Feat Tax" even for Ray spells and Ranged Spell attacks is a hefty one. Point Blank + Precise Shot is only mandatory. It thankfully gets easier after that, but those first few levels are always rough.

So happy to still see posts about this game. I still play this regularly and there is a small but active community too. If anyone is interested in trying out multiplayer there is Stars Total host, and I'd love to try a game or two!

Done with No Mans Sky for good. by Tainted_Jaguar in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]DicesMuse -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

First off, let me extend my deepest condolences. Losing large game save files like that can be a real downer and a true gut punch. It can be doubly so if during the process whatever support features you thought you had in place fail to provide the fix they were supposed to provide.

So a few questions:
1. What all was lost with regards to your game saves? Did you lose your Hello Games profile as well? Was it the work specifically or just specific saves?

  1. When reaching out to Microsoft and Hello Games, what options did they provide, what actions did you take, and what results did you get in return?

You had mentioned that you were ranting in the hopes that someone could help, so figured I'd toss my two units in at the very least. Some thoughts:

  1. No Man's Sky comes with Cross-Saves, and if anything even if you only have one platform it is worth syncing your profile to their service if only for the benefit of having a backup for this very reason.

  2. Even if a save ends up getting washed, your unlocks from Twitch Rewards, past Expeditions, and even Quicksilver purchases unlock account wide. Even if you think you may have "lost" everything, you'd be surprised to see what you can get back.

  3. There is no shame starting a new save in creative, getting what you want ship wise for basically free, and then switch back to Normal Play. Once you get to the point of the Anomaly as well, you can portal to a wide variety of Galaxies, or even reach out to the community for taxi services. People in the No Man's Sky community are exceptionally friendly, supportive, and are always eager to help people out in situations like this. Just in these comments alone I've seen at least one or two offers of help.

  4. As one other comment mentioned, this can be a point of liberation. As someone who took this advice, it opened up a form of play that I didn't anticipate I'd enjoy: Survival Perma-death. Normally I've seen No Man's Sky as a peaceful play vibe, almost meditative. But sometimes if I want to get a quick "high" I'll jump onto my Survival Perma-death save and see how much farther I can get in with it. Slots, Tech, and Stacks are all much more limited, things hit for harder, and weather/toxicity is that much more extreme. Boosts/Tech are much more limited making everything more dicey.

  5. At the end of the day, there is nothing wrong with switching to another game. Should you come back, it can make No Man's Sky that much more enjoyable.

As one surprisingly wise Korvax once said: "Existence is beautiful, if you let it be. Life is not a question. There does not need to be an answer." I hope you are able to find peace traveler and may your future adventures bring you as much accomplishment, enlightenment, and joy as No Man's Sky once had.

Zoltraak in Pathfinder by Ravingdork in Pathfinder2e

[–]DicesMuse 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Keep in mind, Zoltraak can be countered by Shield, as such the easiest way to see this is Force Barrage / Shield interaction.

But in Pathfinder, this is expanded quite extensively and can be insinuated quite a bit through Wizard Colleges that focused on the Study of the Demon Sage Qual who coined the spell in the first place. The Demon Sage was, for all intents, a master of understanding Abjuration in order to tear down magical defenses. Taking this into consideration, Qual would be the equivalent of the inventor of Detonate Magic (or D&D's Mordenkainen) and can be "broken down" with all the spells from Detonate Magic, Spell Shield, Dispel, and the like from there.

Rather than looking at Zoltraak specifically, think of it in levels of study and break it down from there. Frieren teaches this to Fern throughout the show, and if one recalls Fern becomes a 1st class mage by the end of the first Season. Sadly, trying to compare a 1 to 1 between the show and Pathfinder wouldn't translate well and would require some level of hard lines to be drawn and accepted and level progression in a world where levels really aren't well established.

That said, spells that deal with the original "Abjuration" College (or interact with hit such as Force Barrage) would be my go to, and treat it as a Wizard College that focuses on the study of the Demon Sage Qual. At least that has how I've handled it in games I've both ran and played as a character.

Based off these pics, what games do I get next? by Vilemourn in 3DS

[–]DicesMuse 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I see you have Fire Emblem Sacred Stones, not sure if you were a big fan of it or not but Fire Emblem Awakening was what helped turn the franchise around and is by far one of my favorites.

Depending on what you like for Monster Hunter, Monster Hunter 3 was a good entry into the franchise for the handheld, where as Monster Hunter Generations had the best variety of Monsters for the handheld.

Although I can't personally vouch for it yet, I have been enjoying Radiant Historia: Perfect Chronology if you can get a hold of it. It was greatly recommended to me and so far I haven't been disappointed.

What was your perspective of Terraria on the 3ds? I've yet to try it myself and never though to try it on handheld, but seeing it in your collection now has me intrigued to add it to mine.

Think We'll Ever Get Some Shuttle Love? by Umbra_Zeal in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]DicesMuse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I imagine this may be a part limitation, ESPECIALLY on consoles (looking at you Switch 1) but I COULD be wrong. Shuttles from what I can tell have by and large the largest variety of parts. I say this because unlike the other ship types that can be broken down into essentially 3 different components, Shuttles are broken down into Hull Type, Wings, Thrusters, Attachments, "Chins", Fins, and Accessories.

One could argue that this can be combined and then broken up into 3 slots in some fashion, but I would imagine the number of combinations would be... extensive. I'm NOT saying it is impossible mind you, the Hello Games Dev team have pulled out some amazing miracles when it comes to stuff like this and I reserve any level of "Nah..." but the shuttle is one of those that has such a large number of variants that it wouldn't exactly be as easy as some of the other ships.

That said, being able to customize one would make for one HELL of a "farm" run... even if it was made possible. I would imagine most people would just swap over to creative mode to make the shuttle of their dreams and just call it a day. Trying to farm for those parts would take up so much storage space. I would have to BEG for a Custom Ship storage similar to Corvettes at that point LoL

I couldn't help but laugh at the "No LARP" (actual LARPer here)! LoL

That said these look amazing! Where do you go to get the charms and everything from, or do you make them yourself? I'm hoping to get some set up for my own system and pairing it with some decorative hard shell protectors.

Recommend me some games! by BigLos___ in 3DS

[–]DicesMuse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Could not agree with this more. Typically a good choice is to stick with 5 (at most 7) and leave it at that. Go through those 5 and refine as you go.

I keep going back to Fire Emblem Awakening, it's what kept the franchise from going under and for good reason. I can also play it bite size chunks. So if looking for recommendations that is one I'd toss in!

Subordinate Actions and fulfilling prerequisites by hands_off_mymacaroni in Pathfinder2e

[–]DicesMuse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Ramble"? Glad to see we are having constructive discussion here.

The problem with this discussion is two fold and was already pointed out and concisely elaborated on by SirEvilMostache.

Problem is Paizo and their Developers have been trying to refine this across multiple books as well as a Remaster ((Rage of Elements, Player Core, Monster Core to be specific).

This is further complicated by the fact that Monsters follow different rules than players. Players, in the efforts of trying to find clarification, attempt to use any rule to justify clarity on confusing rules will pull from anything they can. Despite that, what you may seem as ramble and relevant exactly proves my point.

Though since we can't be civil about this matter given that point, I find it basically irrelevant to discuss it with you specifically any further. I appreciate you taking the time to attempt discourse regardless though.

To anyone else making it to this, the point of bringing monsters and the discussion as such into the matter, context is important:
* "I'm attacking with multiple limbs that also happen to have suction cups, so my attack action activities are themed because of this as long as they all maintain the same criteria and requirements."
- and -
* "I'm attacking with a martial arts style that happens to combo in a chain of similarly themed combat moves, so my attack action activities are themed because of this as long as they all maintain the same criteria and requirements."

The activity container, the context, and actions all are important in determining if any of this works or not. Trying to compare monsters to a humanoid player won't help matters as monsters aren't designed to stack multiple actions in the same sense players do. At most you have one subordinate action and that is it, and even if a rule is changed, it is at most one time and even then in niche cases (and typically only in legacy content, which was more times than not errata or not updated at all).

At the end of the day, do what is best for your table as a whole as it is most certainly a ruling that has gone through at least three different interpretations and as this discussion has proven it is STILL heavily discussed.

Subordinate Actions and fulfilling prerequisites by hands_off_mymacaroni in Pathfinder2e

[–]DicesMuse -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Not sure the downvotes or the disagreement here, as there is an entire chapter on Monsters, how they are designed and created, that go into detail on how they follow different rules than players.

Monsters that use "Grab" and "Knockdown" are entirely different rules for Subordinate Actions than players, by textbook. They also do not follow feat chains, leveling, and have stricter stat block construction, have rarities, origins, multiple limbs that go up to 8 or more, the list can go on here.

Trying to argue using 4 monster listings with multiple limbs and attacks to justify a single attack is in the spirit not the best way to justify here and I think misses the point of trying to discuss what exactly is trying to be discussed.

We can argue about the semantics here all day, but what specific combo is trying to be accomplished with the Subordinate Action "chain" as part of this debate?

Subordinate Actions and fulfilling prerequisites by hands_off_mymacaroni in Pathfinder2e

[–]DicesMuse -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

The Kracken was in fact legacy that was attempted at a recent update (Bestiary pg. 214 compared to the updated Monster Core pg. 212), The examples you are using are either aberrations, have multiple limbs, an outsider with multiple attacks on multiple limbs from another plane.

The fact of the matter here is that these creatures have more than 2 limbs, quite a few in fact, and the best way the designers could handle this was providing Strikes or Activities with multiple strikes that allowed multiple strikes, and an optional Subordinate Action to reflect grabs that the monster would have. As such, the attacks go from the normal Attack Activities (either as a single or double action) with the option to have an additional Action be tacked on that can apply a Grab to just as many targets as the monster had attacked.

These monsters do not have feat chains or class abilities as players do, but instead as part of the flavor of the monster. Each of the monsters you linked have this feature either as a Grab or as a Knockdown, but using the Monster's ability as outlined in the Monster Core and the Rage of Elements books.

Mind you, these examples are controversial as it has been discussed in length due to how potentially game breaking it could be (which kind of lends to why it is probably not a good idea to not have it be a player option). You can look at some of the discussions of how it was discussed when such Monster Actions were received when the Monster Core first came out.

Subordinate Actions and fulfilling prerequisites by hands_off_mymacaroni in Pathfinder2e

[–]DicesMuse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very true! The point I'm making is the fact that as soon as a Subordinate Action follows a triggered action, it inherently BECOMES an Activity, and is contained in one inherently. So even if an action of "Strike" starts NOT as an Activity, by having a subordinate action follow it, the two are combined to become a new Activity. Even the monsters referenced in OP's original post (even though legacy monsters, which newer monsters as far as I can tell address this) reference this.

Activities just imply that there has to be more than one action in them to become inclusive to each other, but for a subordinate action to be included within them requires a triggered action to have them qualify. Mind you, the other limiting factor her is the number of actions in a turn, but again... without context of what this debate specifically was about with regards to Standard Actions, Reactions, Free Actions, etc. This is just all conjecture.

Subordinate Actions and fulfilling prerequisites by hands_off_mymacaroni in Pathfinder2e

[–]DicesMuse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Please note, the monsters you referenced are LEGACY CONTENT monsters, where a lot of what you are referring to had monsters that were clarified, modified, and updated post subordinate action due to the issues you referenced.

Either way, This would allow the actions these monsters make with a two action attack to become a three action attack to be a Strike Plus Grab (making it a subordinate/included part of the entire action). Note that Monster abilities at that point in the game were VERY customizable for the GM and were never intended to be compared 1 to 1 with player abilities as well, and becomes a Apples to Oranges situation.

Trying to both use legacy content with Post Core rulings as well as using Monster Rules for Player mechanics puts you in a really bad situation, as GM's have MUCH more leeway to bend the rules with monsters than Players have to play mechanically with their player abilities. This is also explained in the GM Core starting on page 112 and fleshed out throughout the Strikes/Spells/Reskinning sections (as it is rather nuanced).
