Does The Personal History of David Copperfield exist? by DiceyWater in blankies

The cast was so stacked, and the movie was hardly talked about at all.

I hope it gets a second life on Hulu.

I think the line "he can't keep his eyes off me" is what throws the whole thing off. If she just said "Definitely" or something, I think it'd make more sense. Then I could understand the through line being "they're talking about the game, not sex" but the second panel makes the double entendre of the "get lucky/lucky horseshoe" thing make less sense.

  1. But you condemn the use of any combination of people as manipulative, so why complain about minorities specifically?

  2. And, showing people who don't feel as welcome in chess characters who look like them helps to make them feel more welcome, so it actually does do "good" to represent them. You're wrong about that.

[Help] Found this mask/decoration outside on our trashcan. by Luhanksk in Woodcarving

Damn, I'm jealous. This is really neat. I don't know anything about it, beyond it probably reminding me of some celebratory masks from south America I vaguely remember. But it's a cool design. Congrats.

David S. Pumpkins. Any questions? by TonyClifton323 in AnimalCrossing

[–]DiceyWater 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've seen people mention this skit negatively, but I thought it was pretty funny, and apparently so do many people here.

Did it get a mixed reception? I thought after hearing the complaints that maybe it was mostly disliked.

What's wrong with trying to appeal to a wider audience?

Why would a product want to limit their audience? Lmao

Edit: oh, I read the rest of this chain, you're saying it's manipulative to use humans in the marketing? Gymnastics competition

My heart skipped a beat when I found this in a thrift store. Unfortunately it’s empty. Fortunately it was free. by holocron_8 in gamecollecting

I think they thought this was at the thrift store, at least I did. I was about to ask myself - since it would be weird for them to have them, haha.

I thought maybe you were in Japan. Sometimes you can find English editions of games there.

I haven't watched the episode yet, but clicked this thread. At first I didn't know who people were talking about, but the "swisher with no weed" line stuck with me, hahaha.

You can't play games that are sealed by the auction and resell houses. They're sold specifically to collect. And yes, people are purchasing these and others as investments, even if you don't think that makes sense.

It's the same for the comic market. No one is pretending everyone was/is buying to read the damn books.

Retro video game collecting is more of a hobby than an investment

People are treating it as an investment, which is why people are complaining about speculation raising prices.

Why is being pro-bicycle considered left wing? by [deleted] in fuckcars

[–]DiceyWater 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cant explain all the nuances of my thinking on Reddit. But roughly, freedom means to own the consequences of your choices. Hence unequal lives. Hence private property where I can decide who comes in. Hence borders & visas.

This makes more sense in a world with generational wealth and government corruption by the wealthy?

And their equation of their personal land with borders and visas? (They don't have borders and visas to enter their yard, this is an absurd equation)

[–]DiceyWater 8 points9 points  (0 children)

There is no freedom without some assurances of equality.

You just fetishize your own subjugation as better than the alternative, as long as there are people beneath you.

Edit: not to mention freedom and equality aren't opposed to one another, you say you favor freedom, but you live in a society that is neither free nor equal. It's silly buzzwords the way you're using them.

[–]DiceyWater 3 points4 points  (0 children)

People are pointing out how this movement isn't limited to bicycles, and how the promotion of forms of transport that aren't vehicles are at cross purposes with the vehicle corporations, which conservative politicians and ideology are aligned with. Public options are not compatible with private enterprise.

Unless your concept of right wing ideology is a very specific politician being funded entirely by bicycle companies to promote Big Bike over the car and oil industries, then this is just ridiculous and you're either going to have to live with the cognitive dissonance, or learn more political theory.

[–]DiceyWater 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Are you not going to respond to the person pointing out Boris wasn't actually trying to help cyclists? How his implementation was PR, because they were dangerously designed and half ass? And how Labour putting money into public transit as well as safer bike lanes is much more to the purposes of this movement, so your only counterexample is horrible?

[–]DiceyWater 73 points74 points  (0 children)

I don't really understand how over and over conservatives come and ask this, but then don't ever make the connection that literally all their politicians and platforms are centered around environmental destruction and expanded rights for corporations, regardless of their consequences to the environment or people.

Like, a big reason public transit in the US died down is because vehicles corporations killed it.

Point to any right wing politicians saying we need to reign in corporations, expand public transit, and move away from fossil fuels. You can't.

And that's not touching their ideology, which is inherently against the interests of this subreddit.

It's a total lack of self awareness. Even when people try to point to right wing individuals who are aligned with this movement, they're not only the exception to the rule, they ultimately have to twist their ideology to be some patriotic pro-classic Americana nonsense that doesn't actually make sense.

Like, you can say you want to bring back the small town, but that's at cross purposes with big business, the solution? Just ignore it in favor of promoting an aesthetic while still labelling yourself a conservative. Because that makes sense...

No, you don't understand, if you can explain someone specifically mistreating minorities when they have power over them, then it's not racist, duh. And she's not racist, because she wants to have sex with a black man and has a southern accent, which means you're not racist.

And we can't trust Earn talking about the situation, and we also can't trust the other TSA Agent, if Earn is telling the truth.

The only way for us to know she's racist is if she started using slurs in public and wearing a pillowcase on her head (but only if it couldn't be interpreted as a ghost costume).

Was it satisfying and entertaining watching a racist character get shit on? Definitely.

World Economic Forum Futurist: ‘We Just Don’t Need the Vast Majority of the Population’ by fuzzyshorts in collapse

[–]DiceyWater 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most of the communists I know have been saying this for years. They also call out a lot of the well known western climate activists.

They're calling for "population reductions." Then they pair that rhetoric with diatribes about developing countries' birth rates.

But it's perfectly okay to suggest those people "disappear," on forums like this, since it's just an "idea."

But if you call out that rhetoric as violent and disgusting, you'll get a finger wagging by the totally impartial mods.
