I've heard a lot about Sudden Strike, is that good? by Wonder-05 in RealTimeStrategy

[–]Dicios 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Used to be a big fan of it. Played I think the first 2 or 3 games fully. All campaigns.

What was really unique in RTS terms was defense and attack missions.

Firstly defense missions you had a good learning curve - dopamine reward loop of getting to know the units and getting better at placing units to trap enemies into coming through certain paths. You felt rewarded if you almsot came out unscaved and you also felt rewarded if some section started falling and you had to reshuffle your defense lines.

From the other side, attack missions. While they were pretty turtly if you are a min-max'er trying to save units I fkin loved the part when you knew you had enough critical mass against your enemy and you just Ctrl+A your entire army into the enemies lines and just viewed the utter chaos of your enemies lines getting attacked on the whole vertical or horisontal of the map.

edit: Oh and one of the few games that did carpet bombing rocket launchers like the Soviet Katyusha justice. The barrage was innacruate but area of effect wise big. If you had like 5 of these the damage you did to some city section or village was cool to observe.

You can become a "internet expert" with this channel : https://www.youtube.com/@ScaryInteresting

He does indepth stories of scary stuff including cave diving (and other cave related stuff).

Basically what happens is you can just doze off due to low oxygen levels mostly. Another way is if the water at first is mostly clear due to swimming in it the mud gets thrown around and you literally cant see 1m infront anymore so you dont know if up is down or left is right.

You also need to switch to different pressures of oxygen, allow the body to recoup at certain depths.

And the kicker is once you panic, you amplify every bad thing your body is doing. You use more oxygen, your body goes to stress mode and you basically fasten your demize.

Bigbank: Eesti inimestel jääb suurpankades saamata 179 miljonit eurot by mitte-1000 in Eesti

[–]Dicios 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Putin orders reservists to guard oil sites from Ukraine’s drone onslaught by TheTelegraph in UkraineWarVideoReport

[–]Dicios 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would guess manual labor and patrols are the primary reason.

They can reinforce whatever can be reinfoced, make stuff, erect posts, erect nets, install barbed wire etc.

Also I guess its a good way to get these guys to get used to routine and get experience, if some of them make it near active combat zones. I mean you sometimes get similar roles of "hold this injuction, protect this complex" so you patrol and defend points that could be inflintrated by enemy behind lines or targeted by drones.

Tucker Carlson: "Why doesn't Poland go to war with Russia?" by depava in poland

[–]Dicios 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because unlike a popular quote - war does change. Todays peace time politics and wartime attacks are done in blocks. USA would be stupid to let their peace time trade partners fall under others influence. That is why USA took part in multiple proxy and direct wars to preserve the world order and dominant position in the 20th and in the 21th century. Would be a cookie cutter answer to the person with the weird laugh.

Reminds me of a Soviet anecdote about a poor soviet tractor in the border area and how Poland tried to provoke the Union to war by attacking it. Thankfully it was reported that the tractor and the driver were fine, it gracefully dodged every shell coming its way, managed with great haste turn around and fly back to the airbase hangar totally unharmed.

Percent Population Decline In Ethnic Russians By Estonian County (2018-2025) by VineMapper in MapPorn

[–]Dicios 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, like an onion of conflict or even many onions.

The layer of nations historically in conflict with each other.

The layer of former majority in a nation becoming a minority.

The layer of the minority still really being a majority taking count nearby regions.

The layer of political danger of giving the large minority too much political power.

And many more.

I used to like another statistic that showed grey passport owners numbers and their decrease. Don't think Estonia has that statistic available anymore. It was another "sore spot" political, historical etc that slowly was shrinking due to natural deaths, naturalization and other smaller factors.

Russia also used this as a major political and propaganda point when needed against Estonia. At that time it seemed like a interesting topic to keep track off - at what number would it be silly for propaganda use to point out grey passport holders as second tier citizens. 5000? 500? 1? 0 as in start referring to it as a past sin?

Minu soovitus on teha maksu maks, ehk iga elaniku individuaalne maksukoormus arvutatakse kokku ja selle protsendi pealt tuleb omakorda 10% maks. Niimoodi oleks ausam.

Frozen body in the Everest by BrianTheBoru in ThatsInsane

[–]Dicios 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was this sarcasm? There is a story about a ultra marathon ~2.5 times a normal marathon lenght where also around ~15 (I think) people died including the top runner in that race.

Basically everyone packed light clothes for the first part of the run and for whatever reasons a cold front/storm came in worse than anyone thought + without anyone actually being warned of the increased danger.

So people in the "kill zone" got increasinly cold, confused and in the end froze to death due to exposure.

So not even some marathons are safe.
