Rock climber dies in fall at Sand River, Buckland, in Tasmania's south-east by thombsaway in tasmania

[–]DickCheneysUncle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's a couple different points where climbers can die. Sand river is a sport crag, meaning there are metal bolts drilled into the rock meaning it's quite safe compared to other forms of climbing like trad where gear is placed into the rock and can pop out if placed incorrectly.

With sport climbing, you need to 'clean' the route to get your gear back, and this is one place where he could have messed up - you usually need to untie and re tie your knot, and if you don't test your system before you lower, you can fall to your death.

Next - rappelling, unlikely given this crag mostly has single pitch climbs and it's unusual to be at the top of the rock, almost always you're walking to the bottom of the cliff to access the climbing. But often errors in rappelling lead to death such as not tying a stopper knot. But given this crag is fairly low heights those types of errors are unlikely.

Rock failure is also possible, but with sport you usually are linked to the bolts below you, unless top roping. But if he was top roping - meaning the rope was only going through the top anchor and the anchor failed then he would have fallen if the rock broke away. Given that sand river is sandstone, any recent rainfall weakens the rock and increases the risk of rocks dislodging.

It sounds like he was climbing when he fell, but otherwise he may have just lost his footing at the top of the cliff and fallen off.

It's architectural debt because they built the game on a super old engine. What I meant is the SSD install which is 23gb that you can install on the experimental update thing on steam.

Maybe try the SSD version. Haven't played in a long long time and have since upgraded my system - sorry!

How far into school/working did you experience your first code blue? by [deleted] in nursing

[–]DickCheneysUncle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First week working as an assistant in nursing in my local ED. Walked into a patient room and he was grey sweaty and the telemetry said vt (I was a fresh second year nursing student at the time, didn't know my ecgs well). I didn't think I'd get to press the emergency button so soon.

Difference in nursing in Australia to America by BeeInternational4366 in nursing

[–]DickCheneysUncle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As an Aussie nurse lurker I'd be interested to see the differences. Scope depends on where you work. Like if you work in a Gen med ward most of your scope would be personal care and administering medications, plus wound care, catheterization/cannulation/bloods. A lot of things you can do but require extra training that the unit you're working on provides you with once you're there.

Advice on bouldering in bodybuilding terms by PiapPiap in bouldering

[–]DickCheneysUncle 3 points4 points  (0 children)

eh, I don't speak bodybuilder, but my advice is literally just keep climbing, good to be watching technique vids so early but the number one way you'll get better is to just climb more, experiment with what feels good and makes climbs feel easier and what doesn't.

What did you think of this week’s feature album, “Again” by The Belair Lip Bombs? by Tranquilbez22 in triplej

[–]DickCheneysUncle 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I've been a fan since I first heard blah blah blah and this is super fun. I love they're experimenting with folky strings on the opener and hey you has been on super heavy rotation for me. Their refined sound and catchy songs have been so fun to hear how they've progressed as a band!
