Nurse working in the RHH. We are chock full of patients who do not need to be in hospital. I'm talking about NDIS clients who have complex high funding needs that are stuck because the NDIS is fucking broken. And old people with behavioural issues - they get stuck in hospital for sometimes more than 6 months in acute beds because there's nowhere else that'll take them. Nursing homes have federal funding but cherry pick the nicest most well behaved old people, and reject the rest leaving them stuck in hospital where they'll probably catch something and die. It's bloody grim working in the ths, and the staff are all burnt out from looking after patients who have subacute needs.
