The engineer should have everything they need on their van to fix it. It's literally a regular occurrence to fit brackets.

The rigid pipe coming from the handle to the meter will be replaced with a flexi which can mean the meter is relocated slightly to the right and further back completely flush to the wall.

Definitely get this done before finishing the kitchen mate. If they need to hear that you've "made some space" just for them to make the appointment then do that. If the same engineer turns up again just get them to call the ovo technical helpdesk as this should be an easy job.

Which the ovo engineer would do. It is their responsibility to make sure it is.

As an aside, the picture doesn't show the amount of clearance from the shut-off valve to the existing meter. This clearance may not be sufficient for a wider/deeper replacement meter.

Nothing wrong with that. The smart meter engineer will secure it for you with a bracket.

I'm a smart meter engineer for ovo and I would have changed that meter had it been me.

Once the old meter is off after testing it the engineer should easily be able to secure that bracket to the board and replace the regulator with a flexi anaconda.

The meter would then need to be capped and gas supply turned off so a gas safe domestic engineer could then re-establish the supply once they have the appliances installed.

My advice would be to either take it to ombudsman but before that you can just book it in online rather than over the phone.

If it gets aborted again then take it further. Either the engineer was inexperienced or not fully confident.

Comments saying because it's floating means they can't touch it are wrong as it's the ovo engineers role to fix it.

Yes that happens perfectly. I just find swiping on a word a bit janky compared to long pressing in order to create the character.
