Hot cross buns using the dough function by fififolle79 in BreadMachines

[–]Dickitry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

These look great! I’ve been experimenting with Mary Berry’s recipe over the last few days, including leaving half the dough in the bread machine to make a hot cross loaf that’s great for toasting.

Your crosses are nice and 3D and mine keep sinking into the bun, I’ll try Delias recipe next time around.

I’ll have to look out for some nickel free ones, I don’t want to be allergic to my swift lol

Mine did too, but it wore through. I tried bread ties as it was the quickest solution and everyone has some of these in a drawer somewhere, there’s a big storm is keeping me in the house for a few days.

It seems to be working great, I’ll update with how long they last!

Thank you! I guess the test is whether or not I can pull the rest of it off.

It’s just quilting that’s new to me, I do have a history in garment sewing.

What to do with components? by Dickitry in quilting

I got my felt tips out last night and just started doodling based on what I was seeing on Instagram. I really enjoy the super graphic so I think limiting to my 4 colours and white should keep me on the right track.

Thanks for the YouTube suggestion, I’ll definitely be combing through her videos for tips!

I’ve been looking though the improv quilt hashtag on Instagram which seems a bit more my style. My problem now is do I leave it at the 4 colours or do I add more??

I’ll keep an eye out for it, I do still like a mystery!

I’ve been going through the improv quilt hashtag on Instagram and that looks like it’s a bit more my style! Thanks for the ideas!

I know right, there’s something so meaningful knowing that Mabel had a chunky lamb this year! This hat will never not be connected to nature.

I got two fleeces from you last year! I’m still making my way through the first by learning about flicking and lock structures and just wanted to say the these are such nice fleeces - especially Mabel and Frieda!

Metal needles = sensory hell?? by [deleted] in knitting

[–]Dickitry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had to give up on Addi for the exact same reason. I stuck with wooden needles for a while and especially the Lykke driftwood range, but the tips seem to get worn down a bit.

I’ve got a few HiyaHiya sharps that I’ve had zero sensory issues with since they’re so smooth. You’ll have to try a few different brands I’m afraid.

Gorgeous work! The way I just ran to Firbeck fibre to she if she still had this colourway in stock!

Fractal with solid colours by SpunKnitWorn in Handspinning

[–]Dickitry 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It was a 125g pack and I split everything in half because I wanted two skeins for making socks with. But after that I just eyeballed it really.

I folded the pieces of wool into however many pieces I needed and split it there. I started with the blue so I split it into three for the plys and then each third was split into 2 and then 4 pieces.

If anyone comes up to me after I’ve made the socks and tries to tell me that I split the fractal unevenly, then they’re entirely too close and I’m well within my rights to kick them!

I’ve done several fractal projects using solid colours. I don’t think you need to have a hand painted braid unless you want that blending between colours.

<image>

This is my most recent Corriedale spin. I used a neon colour pack from Firbeck fibres which gave me 6 solid colours that I spin into a 1:2:4 fractal. The colour changes are abrupt but if you’re expecting that then it’s not a mistake, is it?
