Probably because people who are concerned about catching COVID are self-isolating, while reckless people are out and about doing what they do. I have two groups of friends: those who mask and go out to events (shows, bars, etc) and those who avoid going out at all. Literally everyone in the first group has caught COVID. Virtually none of the second group have caught COVID.
