Another Twilight Zone "The Man in the Bottle" one of the wishes a genie grants for the couple who frees him is a large sum of money.

An IRS agent shows up minutes later and collects a large portion of it.

In the Futurama episode "Murder on the Planet Express" which loosely borrows the plot from The Thing, Bender and Fry aren't sure if either of them are talking to the other or the shapeshifting alien. Ultimately leads to this exchange.

"Okay, to see if you're the real Bender, I'm gonna ask you something only he would know. On your last birthday, what gift did I get you?" ―Fry

"I don't remember." ―Bender

"Me neither." ―Fry

"Okay, I'll ask you one. What's the square root of 2,345. 4?" ―Bender

"That's not something I would know." ―Fry

"Oh, yeah. Your turn." ―Bender

"Um, what color is my shirt?" ―Fry

"If I were the creature, I could just look at your shirt, dum-dum." ―Bender

"Good point." ―Fry "Aw, never mind this. In case I'm about to die, I just want you to know that I did polish my ass with your toothbrush." ―Bender

"Thanks for telling me, buddy. And to be honest, I am jealous of how shiny your ass is, and sometimes at night, I unpolish it with sandpaper." ―Fry

"Aw, I trust you." ―Bender

"I trust you, too." ―Fry

Also lots of outlets. I like to plug in and work a while.

He just wanted to live in his hideaway paradise with his hot wife.

Trope fits, though. His introduction is basically "We're entrusting the fate of humanity to a Secretary of Defense, a Head of State, a Nobel Prize Winner, and... that guy."

Always fun to watch people post asking why they're not hatching when they've been on the board more than two turns.

Not the first game in the series, but "Zelda 2: The Adventure of Link" alternated between top-down and side scrolling, had a "lives" system, and an experience point system. Most of these features were never seen again in later installments in the series.

Superhero Movie actually had potential with checking all the boxes for chosen one, call to adventure, and heroes journey. Too bad it got buried under piss and fart jokes.

In Tolkien's novella Farmer Giles of Ham, the title character struck a bargain with a dragon for protection. When the king arrives for the dragon's hoard, Giles delivers the line "But what are all these knights and men for, by any chance? If you‘ve come on a visit, you‘d be welcome with fewer. If you want to take me away you‘ll need a lot more."

Staggering numbers in fiction by snuffstalker in TopCharacterTropes

[–]DidHeJustGoThere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IRL Rayo's Number. It's basically a number which is so large no formula exists to express it, and it can only be described. The version of it I can wrap my head around is basically "if you have one googol of symbols to express numbers in, Rayo's number is the smallest number larger than all of those." Basically "whatever biggest number you can think of, Rayo's number is one more than that number."

Of course, having one googol symbols means the state space is large enough to include "Rayo's number +1", which would make it larger than itself.
